After reading all the advice on here I decided use the letter templates provided to claim back the PPI I took out on a loan at Barclays several years ago where I was told by agreeing to take it my application was more likely to be accepted.

After sending both template letters and a final letter to the Financial Ombudsman, I received a cheque from Barclays yesterday for £220 + 8% interest = £253.

Not a huge amount but certainly something I wasn't expecting in all honesty. Just wanted to say thanks!

Just like to say thank you all for your help. Settled with Black Horse for my father in law. £86 + Interest, not a massive amount of money but everything helps! Keep plugging away everyone, it can be worth it in the end !!

I submitted the first letter on 27th may to HSBC claiming my PPI was mis-sold (Was told I had to take the policy to get the loan).

Received a letter a week or so later from HSBC apologising for me having to complain and said they are investigating the complaint and will get back to me within 4 weeks.

    Fingers crossed!

    Hi all

Just to bring to your attention. I recieved a settlement from Barclaycard last month for £187 for ppi.

They made their offer in writing and paid the amount off my account, but I was not given a breakdown of how they actually got to that figure.

I called Barclaycard direct and after being passed around abit I was told to write a letter requesting the breakdown and calculations from the Directors Office in Stockton. I sent the letter last week and today received a telephone call from a lovely lady having to issue me with an apology as they had made an error. The figure I am actually due back is £873.05 :rotfl:

So she will be sending me a cheque minus the £187 I had from them last month!

It makes me think are they dong this alot? Offering a very low settlement with the hope you are not switched on enough to ask for the figures and interest calculations......

Just so everyone is aware to ask for the breakdown once you have the settlement figure so you know you are getting eveerything you should be...;)
