What were you reclaiming: PPI (Single premium)
Who was the provider: First Plus
How much did you get back: Offered £5200
Did you get it back after a letter or did you go to the Financial Ombudsman: Letter only, just referred to FOS 2 days ago so don't think it's their doing

OH MY GOD!!! Got letter today offering above (they say 78% of £9700 premium). Started sending template letters in November and just kept threatening them with FOS. This is the best news!!! So - advice! Do I accept this amount or carry on fighting for the whole amount + interest?

Anyone else fighting First Plus - keep going! Like I said, what they do is nothing short of daylight robbery. Just keep using template letters - keep language simple, repetitive and business-like - and keep going.

    Advice please!

Oh - and huge huge thanks to Martin. This is life-changing money to us! xxx
  • we're fighting first plus..our ppi is 13k.I sent the first letter about 2 weeks ago ,had a reply within 5 days to say they are looking into it and will reply by 21st feb.

They will keep fobbing you off with different dates but do not give up, even when they send you the 'no' letter which they probably will. Remind them they have just 8 weeks from the date of your original complaint letter to give you their final response, which, if not favourable to you, you will refer the matter to the Financial Ombudsman.

Keep going. It's such a great feeling when you win YOUR money back and get one over on them, the way they got one over on you!

well done you im waiting for a second response letter and copy of tapes its up to you if you take the 78% were you claiming missselling or unfare rebate
you are right its day light robbery and they should not be aloud to get away with it well done what ever you decide maybe ask some of the experts on the discussion site for there valued opinion the figure you give does not equate to 78% have you had a rebate allready
  • Guys,

The 78% First Plus are offering is an enhanced pro rata rebate, usually offered when they don't uphold your complaint for mis-selling but know that you have a case on the unfair terms and conditions of single policy premium refunds. So the amount offered would depend on how far through the five year policy you are at the time of cancelling the policy. For example we were offered 78% after paying the premiums for two years. So the offer equated to 78% of the remaining three years.

We declined and kept on asking for the full premium plus interest because we felt we had a good case for mis-selling. In the end they agreed and we are waiting for a cheque for the whole lot.

  • daynurse,

Just keep on at them for breakdowns etc if you are not sure. They will try everything to fob you off but don't let them. I am waiting for my final offer as they have said they will offer full refund plus interest but haven't actually said what this will be. I guarantee the numbers won't add up and I will have to go back to them.

Will keep an eye out for your updates,
