AMEX PPI
In Feb 12 I wrote to AmEx to complain about their PPI. I followed the advice provided by MSE.
Amex refused my claim so, again as recommended by MSE, I referred my complaint to the FOS. I did not use a claims handler - there was no need as the FOS were informative and helpful and, to cut a long story short, they took the fight to AmEx on my behalf and involved the FCA as they needed.
At last, after almost exactly 4 years, but with regular updates from the FOS when I asked, a cheque from AmEx for just short of £30K arrived last week. I knew, almost exactly, how much to expect (using information on the MSE website) and I'm so grateful that I trusted the advice that I gleaned from the website.
But, most of all, I am grateful to those at the FOS who handled my case. They were always professional and calm despite, at times, my frustration at everything taking so long.0 -
Thank you Martin
You gave me the confidence to make my own claim for PPI. Not being very confident I was always anxious, embarrassed and afraid of being rejected for making any claim. But after reading through the forums on this site, and seeing how quick and easy others have got results, I plucked up the courage to give it a go.
I wrote to Cahoot, with who I have a credit card, knowing that I used to have PPI attached to the account. 2 weeks later they have written back and have upheld my complaint. They are paying me back £4182.
I'm gobsmacked by the amount I'm getting and the ease of the process.
So if anyone has any doubts about proceeding with a claim, Don't. Just claim, do it yourself and save the 20% commission fee a broker would charge.
Thank you again Martin0 -
I claimed back ppi in 2010 on credit cards and loans with Lloyds and was successful and after quite a wait received payments. Today out of the blue I have received a letter from them saying there were other loans which had been refinanced loans and they had not included these on that original calculation and it gave me a figure for this additional refund and said I would be receiving a cheque within the next 28 days. This was for quite a lot more than I received originally and I had no idea! Very very happy. I'm now going to get on with my claim for packaged bank accounts.0

If you want to complain that the package was miss-sold (you don't "claim back") then the details for Lloyds are here:

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

Thanks for your help Much appreciated. As the thread is titled Reclaiming successes and failures though I think I am "claiming back" the payments I've made that were a result of being missold0

The title is misleading, you are complaining you were miss-sold. Unless they have already agreed you were miss-sold then you are not claiming anything back - they have to agree you are miss-sold firstSam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:

Back in the 90's & early 00's we had several Barclayloan products - we refinanced several times and it was all done over the phone - credit was (too) easy back then. We recently received a letter from Barclays suggesting that we might have been mis-sold PPI and inviting us to go online and complete their form to see if we were entitled to anything. I was a bit sceptical but looked on the relevant section of MSE and decided to give it a go. I wasn't sure how to word things but the MSE templates really helped. I completed the form 2 weeks ago. Last week we got a letter acknowledging the claim and telling us they were looking into it. This week we received a cheque for £16,735!!!! We were stunned and I cannot thank MSE enough for providing me with the courage to give it a go.0
