PPI Reclaiming successes and failures

The purpose of the PPI is to cover you in case you lose your job or are unable to work due to accident/sickness. Saying it wasn't needed as you were employed is like saying you don't need life cover as you're not dead.Despite having copies of all the signed paperwork which I have provided copies of to the company and the ombudman the ombudsman says it cannot be resolved as the companies they contact claim not to have their copies of paperwork - thus decline to accept responsibilty.
Who have you complained to and about what? Why is it just because the company say they cannot find their records that they are allowed to get away with it. I am sure if I had defaulted on a payment claiming 'sorry, can't find the paperwork' I would have been tarred and feathered!
If the PPI was on car finance then it might well have been sold by the dealer and hence nothing to do with the lender. Who actually sold you the policy?I was not being greedy as I had paid this against my wishes. It has been months of wasted time, effort, copying and postage and I did not find the ombudman very helpful as they encouraged me to persevere and yet seem to support the finance company.
* the company was GE Money - so good luck!
The Ombudsman is a big organisation. Unfortunately, most of their telephone calls are dealt with by unskilled customer service staff, who encourage everyone and anyone to complain to them irrespective of the merits. When the matter gets as far as a case handler who knows the regulations then people frequently find they are unable to take it any further. In this case, it is unlikely that either the lender or car dealership would have been regulated by any FCA/FSA predecessor organisation. Therefore, FOS would have no jurisdiction itself to actually consider a complaint against them. Unfortunately for you, it also means the companies in question are under no obligation to consider your complaint any further.0 -
Barclays success
PPI of £2700 including interest

Hi there,
I would like to share my success story with you.
I took out loans and credit cards dating back as far as '98, so I didn't think I had much chance reclaiming PPI even though I knew I had it.
After reading a few success stories here I decided to just try it - I had nothing to lose!
I went to the bank's website and completed the form they had on there. I didn't know many details, just a rough idea of the year and my address and work details at the time.
After about a week I had a letter informing me that they were looking into it (I still didn't hold out much hope!)
Imagine my surprise then, when on Friday I had a letter saying my claims had been upheld and there was a cheque for just over £7000!!
I got into such bad debt because of these loans, and it took me a while to pay off and I did suffer because of it. But I've been debt free for about 3 years now, and I have a nice little sum to pop into my savings account.
It just goes to show that if you don't try you don't get - if anyone is thinking whether they should apply or not, just go for it - you never know
Cheers MSE, if it wasn't for you guys I probably wouldn't be planning a cruise :beer:0 -
HBOS must have been carrying out reviews-my wife and I both had mis-selling payments made a few years ago, came home after a family day out to letters for both of us-she has been awarded a further £1000 and I am to receive another £3800 on top of the £1900 I received in 2011.Happy days
All I need is for my Clydesdale Bank review to come up trumps:)Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?0 -

I've had some success that I wanted to share with regard to PPI on an Egg Credit Card.
I took the card out in 2002 (as a 22 year old - seems like a lifetime ago now!!) and paid everything off in 2006. In 2011 I made enquiries regarding PPI as I knew I definitely wouldn't have requested it due to an accident I had in 2000 and wanted to make sure I wasn't mis-sold. I was told I did have PPI on my account, which although was surprising wasn't a shock given other stories of the time. It would seem that the opt-in box was already ticked and I wouldn't have been able to proceed with my CC application at the time had I not taken out the PPI.
I made a complaint in late 2011, which was rejected by them, so I took it to the Ombudsman in January 2012. After providing what information I could, which given the length of time from my accident came down to a hastily written doctor's note, A&E admission physio referral and an x-ray, the Ombudsman agreed that I had been mis-sold and found in my favour in December 2014. This decision was rejected by Egg because of lack of evidence and appealed.
However, I'm happy to report that they have had a change of heart and have written to me today and, following their own investigations and the investigations of the Ombudsman, they're going to provide a refund in full. I haven't yet been told how much the refund will be, I can't imagine it will be more than a couple of hundred pounds, but it is what I am owed!
The moral of my story is, if you are certain that you have been mis-sold, do not give up! Although my claim has taken nearly four years from beginning of investigations to final decision, I really haven't had to put that much effort in and things are in the process of being put right at last! :-)0 -
Hi,
First time post.
After reading many success stories here I thought, hey why not.
Rang Barclays 6/10/15, asked if they would confirm if I had any PPI, placed on hold, came back with 2 reference numbers. Then transferred me straight to PPI department. Lady explained they now had reference's and would start the claim. Received letter within a few days stating they were looking into four policies 😀, rang to see how I could track progress. Informed all four claims were upheld. Logged into bank account earlier 19/10/15 to see £1,312.57 submitted.
Not one question asked, no money spent, no stamps and loans were early 1997 😭
Cannot believe it. Best 20 minute phone call ever .0 -
