PPI Reclaiming successes and failures

Thank you so much for this site, after reading Martin's advice about how to claim for PPI refund I went direct to Barclay's website and used their own link to make a claim, I didn't have all the dates nor policy numbers etc but filled in their forms honestly and without remembering all relevant details, I received a letter from them on 31st October (about a week after making the claim) saying they were investigating and would write to me again before the 22nd of December. I didn't honestly expect to get anything back but thought if I did it would be maybe a couple of hundred quid,so was shocked to log in to my account this morning to find a credit from Barclay's of over £4000 which after clearing my overdraft leaves me with nearly £3000 to go towards other debts, so for anyone unsure about making a claim,I advise to go direct to your bank rather than using a company that will charge you,& you may be pleasantly surprised. Thank you again to Martin Lewis for this site x0

Great site which explains in plain english how to go about reclaiming ppi. I have successfully claimed back £14,000 from six credit cards / loans, some going as far back as 1997. Have just heard today from my final claim with HFC Bank that an offer letter is on its way to me for £2600. Great result but it has taken 8 months and a lot of correspondence to get this final one sorted. My advice to anyone contemplating a claim is to go for it and persevere.0

Have 2 claims in, m&s loan 2003 and 5 consolidated Barclays loans 1997-2003. Has anyone had similar claims and can tell me the process these banks took ( like timescales, calls and letters) please?0

I got the results from my DSAR request today but found nothing in them to verify that I had PPI on loans 1 & 3. All they had on the loans were screenshots showing loan 2 as having insurance but 1 & 3 no insurance listed. The original paperwork in no longer available. I also had a current account with the branch but they could only find statements going back as far as 2001, which was after loan 3 had been paid off but before loan 2, which they paid up on! The long and short of it though is nothing within the DSAR supported my case. Indeed loan 3 did not pay off loan 2, they ran side by side.
On a different note though! The SDAR also showed my old credit card statements and agreements. I had 5 credit cards accounts in all over the years. The first 3 of these were linked accounts and the first 2 of those shows that CARDHOLDER PROTECTION PLAN payments were being applied each month, clearly meaning I was paying for insurance. I was not aware of this! The following 3 cards did not have any insurance applied, and I have the agreements for these cards showing insurance as not being selected. Lo and behold though, there are no copies of the original agreements for the earliest 2 cards where insurance was being paid. I guess this means there is not enough information available to uphold any case against the CARDHOLDER PROTECTION PLAN being applied to the first 2 cards?0 -
After two years and eight months, I received a call two weeks ago, from the FOS regarding my two tier PPI claim with REDCATS and SHOP DIRECT. They advised me that they are recommending that the Shop Direct part of my claim is upheld. Shop Direct have now 8 weeks to come to a decision. Yesterday, I received another call from the FOS regarding the Redcats part of my claim. Redcats say that my claim is "Time Barred" as I was sold the PPI in 2006. The company changed hands in 2008 and became Shop Direct and my PPI continued with them until I saw Martin Lewis's programme on PPI Claims in 2012 after which, I cancelled the PPI payments. Redcats say that they wrote to me in 2007 with all the information I needed to decide whether or not I wished to continue with the PPI payments or not. I have no recollection of receiving this letter from them. The FOS are now adjudicating this part of my claim. The FOS said that the next time I hear from her, it will probably be with an answer as she has all the information she needs now. I will post again with the outcome.0

Once again thanks for all the help/advise, I will attempt to do a SAR,
thereafter keep you posted on my outcome.
Many thanks0 -
This is long overdue as I done this a few months ago but just to say thanks to MSE and their guides.
I contacted HSBC with regard to PPI, done the questionnaire as supplied by the bank and had a phone call and won the claim for £3,500. Perfect to settle the account and little to spare! Exactly what I wanted it for!
Thanks again! So easy to do!0 -
Credit Card PPI Claim
Barclaycard
£5600
I contacted barclaycard in March 2013, 4 years after I had cancelled my PPI on my credit card. I answered the questionnaire and submitted all the information I could. I received my credit card in 2005, and couldn't remember if I had ever asked for PPI initially or if anyone had explained it to me. Anyway, I answered what I could. I received a response in March 2013 stating that I hadn't been mis-sold any PPI. I accepted that as I couldn't remember and I was just taking the chance.
Imagine my surprise when I received and letter from Barcalycard this November 2014 saying my claim had been re-investigated and the decision was in my favour! I rang barclaycard (imagining this was a joke) and the lady I spoke to confirmed I would be receiving this large amount either by cheque or directly into my bank account. I am still speechless - so I guess it does pay to try!0 -
For the last 12 years I have been through many loans and credit cards, many with PPI included.
Today I am starting my quest to reclaim . . .
It's overwhelming to say the least as there are 7 cards; 4 or 5 loans and a scattering of paperwork.
i'm starting with the MSE Templates to each Lender.
I'll keep you posted
Hi ALL,
Well so far so good.
Thanks to MSE Templates all SARs are in and large packages of data returned within the specified timescales (bar Citifinancial who seem to stall with petty excuses).
1 of 2 MBNA CC PPI's paid out already with the 2nd under further review. CapitalOne paid out already.
Just in the process of moving house so these payouts are covering costs and the cut in Stamp Duty making it seem like timing is PERFECT
CitiFinancial is the last valid claim for CC PPI to go . . . I think it will succeed but going by other reports it won't be straight forward.
I'm so glad I did it without going through an agent . . . there really is NO need when you have this site and everyones' experiences/advice available for free.
GOOD LUCK to anyone trying to reclaim.
ps I got an unfair parking ticket at a RINGO Carpark - thanks to MSE I won my case through POPLA. The ticket was £2 which I tried to pay online . . . fine was for £100 . . . Contested this and won although it cost me about £7 in Postal charges but these guys can't get away with it.
Fairplay to everyone who has posted successes . . . I have reclaimed a fair amount but unlike a Gambler I admit my losses. I've been silly with money available to me in the past and have paid dearly for it.
Take advice, don't be silly :T0
