PPI Reclaiming successes and failures

Hi, I claimed back over £2500 from Barclays, £800 from MBNA (both in 2010) and then £3800 from LTSB which was paid out in Nov 11 thanks to MSE
Now I've received a letter from Lloyds regarding incorrectly calculated PPI related to a 4 old loans. I have a current loan with them which doesn't have PPI. They have said in the letter they are reducing the value of our current loan to correct the errors relating to our old loan PPI settlement amount. I'm looking for a bit of advice, because to be honest I would prefer to have been given the choice of receiving the money into my bank (it being my money and all!) instead Lloyds have taken that freedom of choice away, when I called to query it they said the refund was nothing to do with PPI (although it clearly states that it is in the first paragraph of the letter) and their process is to reduce the loan value. Annoying, when this current loan wasn't part of the original consideration for the PPI at all. Any advice gratefully received! Ta

It could be that they are taking off the new loan, the remaining PPI after the rebate from the previous loan that you repaid in the settlement figure, this figure would have been paid with the new loan, this is how it reads to me.
Make sure the new loan is adjusted to take this into account.0 -
I took out a loan around 18 years ago with LLoyds where I was quite clearly told - no PPI, no loan.
Can I still claim back the PPI on this loan?0 -

You can send in a complaint yes, do you have any documentary proof that you paid the PPI? Do you still have an account with Lloyds?
If you don't have records you could try a SAR for all the details they have left on you (will cost you £10) and you might get something showing you paid PPI. Do note that is not proof of miss-sale, look for something stronger like PPI being included in the loan (single premium) which will win a complaint.
Don't just say you were told you had to have PPI - every man and his dog claims that and you are unlikely to have any proof of that conversation so it's just hearsaySam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:
People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

I had my Barclaycard PPI claim rejected today.
I completed Barclays online form.
They claim I ticked the box on a posted application but I cant really remember.
The letter claims that as the application form was submitted by post which means that at the point of applying for PPI Barclays did not give me any advice and that I made my own decision.
I didn't even realise I had PPI until I got an annual statement showing PPI at £50 PCM following a balance transfer.
My reasons for PPI miss selling were that -
I was under the impression PPI was mandatory
I received full sick pay and had savings to cover the balance at all times.
I highlighted fact that the policy was not explained to me in any detail (tick box) cant even remember ticking it back in 1995, who's to say I did tick it.
It was not explained to me that the payments were on a sliding scale linked to credit card balance.
As you can see from above Barclays contradict their decision, in one breath they say you ticked the box, we didn't advise you and in the other breath they say I made an informed decision based on the information provided
Barclaycard claim their rejection was based on the fact that they
* Told me PPI was optional
* Told me about any exclusions
But I cant prove this.
They claim to have reviewed my claim that -
*I felt Barclaycard did not ask about my personal circumstances, savings and employment conditions of service.
*I felt that it was not explained the premium was on a sliding scale linked to balance (higher for larger debt)
*since taking out the PPI I have not been asked if my circumstances have changed.
Barclaycards conclusion -
Our investigation has found nothing to support this so we are unable to support your claim.
Any advice would be welcome0 -

Thank you thank you so much
All that i've tried to do is prove that the banks are, manipulating every opportunity to try and avoid full redress, mine is a prime example shame on them, never give up and don't trust anything to chance especially a good will gesture when clearly they're skirting around the edge's of fraud
Update
i've just received a letter from the ombudsman outlining that they have found against Lloyds tsb regarding my case and amongst many other quotes they've requested I be put back in a position as if they'd never taken ppi without my consent
on my own I managed to find that i'd paid around £1000 back in 99/2000 when the bank couldn't, by requesting their records
they put a goodwill gesture of £495 in my bank 16 months ago
which I declined and sent all the relevant information to the ombudsman
my question is they've tried to avoid paying me full redress how can I calculate a honest figure from this
many thanks in advance0 -
Hi all - long time lurker. I've done a couple of PPI claims this year after following the advice on these forums about doing it yourself. I've got back £550 from a Lloyds bank loan, £180 from a British Gas loan and today I just heard that I'm getting £4,700 from an M&S loan!!!!
Thanks so much!!! thrilled!!! :-)0 -
Approximately 5 years ago I completed several PPI claims, which subsequently were directed to the Financial Ombudsman, who wrote to me sporadically informing me that my claims were in their hands, but had yet to be looked at, which was absolutely fine. Approximately 8 months ago I received an email from the Financial Ombudsman stating a new computer system had been installed and as a consequence ALL my files had been lost and I was required to apply again! I have since moved home and cannot find the required information to re-start these claims.
Is there anything at all I can do? :mad:0
