  • People who have complained to RBS, generally how many weeks has it taken from the submission of your complaint to hearing back with a decision?
Since every complaint is judged on it's own merits (or lack of same), there is little point asking how long other complaints have taken.

The bank are allowed eight weeks to respond "fully and finally" to your complaint. Expect them to take at least that long and you won't be disappointed.

I sent a letter off to hsbc as I had a loan and credit card with them back in 2007 but as they were passed out to a 3rd party I didnt have the details. I have received a letter backaadvicing they don't hold information on file after 6years (seems strange) so can't tell me if I had ppi. They also said I need to provide statments and proof of the insurance sold. Everything I have read says I don't need to send any documentation and that they should look into the claim. Any experience or advixe?
    Thanks in advance

The general guideline is that they should hold data for at least 6 years then destroy it. If the account was closed before 2008 chances are they have destroyed it all now in line with proper process. The guidance you are looking at presumes the institution still holds the data on you, if you can't prove you ever had/paid for PPI, what would you be expecting to claim back? If you have your own copies of the statements then send copies (not originals) to the bank along with your complaint.

Just had the very same letter, going back to 2002, I only have my bank statements to prove an amount was being paid to Beneficial Bank now HSBC, so I will phone my bank and have a little chat to see what information they have, better not be this 6 year rule, if others can do it so can HSBC, even if it has been passed on to a 3rd party or inherited from a take on.

As per previous post by me, the guideline is to destroy old data (e.g. closed accounts) after 6 years - no bank can magic up data that they have destroyed as per the proper guidelines. If you have your own statements then only send copies but it's better than nothing though if it doesn't show what you were paying it might not be so useful.

With me it was 8 weeks exactly. They didn't do the telephone interview until the evening before the decision was due to be made - at 6.45 pm (I work late on Tuesdays!).

Wow, just popped in to say massive thank you to this site, it's operators, members and those who have offered advice.
Just received letter offering PPI settlement for mortgage PPI with former Northern Rock. £1400! It was sorted within 3 weeks of my initial letter. I need to accept and receive the cheque - can't forsee any probs?!
It does mention tax - haven't looked into this yet.
So, yes, I dithered for years, thought - it won't be a success for me. I can't do it.
I did - I copied the templates, I read the info on here and, voila - success.
    Massive thank you
  • Dear All

Hi was hoping someone could help?

I've recently received a letter from MBNA, who have reopened my failed case from Set 2011! I was asked to call them.

And I called them today, I was asked What was my Gross Income, Who I worked for, How long I've worked for them, What Sick Pay was I entitled to and what would have been my redundancy package. Back in May 2008!!

I couldn't answer a few : my then income, my sick benefit and what redundancy I would if been offered (that was really hard!)

So they said they would progess the case with info I gave (I said my Sick entitlement was either 6 months on full pay or 3 months on full pay, or 6 months full pay 6 months half pay....I didnt really know!

What I did do was go and check and called them back, as I felt a little unhelpful. I gave the Sick benefit update which triggered another question (apparently the questions were "interactive" on answers I gave!!!?) I was then asked how would of I been supplied with that i formation when I started with the company!! I started in 2003! And didnt know if how when I would of been supplied with the information of going off on Sick leave! I was then asked would I supply them with evidence of this. This was a stark difference to when I called up before. I was only trying to be helpful. I said I dont know where I could get the info on the Sick leave entitlement (Id already said Id just looked it up on the local intranet) and not sure if I could simply take this off the internal intranet or if Im allowed to do that...plus that does not reference to 2003 or 2008 but present! The call handler then was submitting an answer from me as will not send in evidence which was not what I said he went on to say that when reviewing my case they will ignore my answer as to how much Sick Benefit were I entitled to as I would not submit evidence to support this!!

This all became rather badgering and bullish! All I was trying to do was answer their questions to the best of my knowledge it was afterall in reference to questions dating back to 2003 and 2008!!

Has anyone else had a simliar experience?

    Thank you for any help

    Regards

And you can add another massive thank you from me! :T:T

I had also dithered about claiming, but was heartened by some of the success stories on here. I also copied a template letter and sent it off to Cap. One fully expecting a battle, but got a reply in under 3 weeks and am now waiting for my cheque for approx £2250.00 :T:T:T:j:j:j
  • I have tried to reclaim a PPI more than once over the years, but no-one ever will help, and I never get anywhere, so I tried again, and this was the result. I'm now stuck with paying a debt collector.
    Dear Mrs Ann Richardson

    PPI Investigations

We write in respect of the above matter. We have now completed a full appraisal of your account following receipt of your instructions to investigate your Blackhorse account for mis-sold Payment Protection Insurance (PPI).

Due to the age of the account with Blackhorse, we are unable to pursue a PPI mis-selling claim for you against the creditor in this instance. This is because the regulations covering the sale of PPI by the creditor in 2002 were not as stringent as they became subsequently.

As such, we have now closed your claim with Blackhorse .

As this is your only matter with us we will now close your file. However, if you have any further accounts you wish us to investigate, then please do not hesitate to let us know.

May we take this opportunity to thank you once again for choosing us and remind you of our ‘Refer a Friend’ incentive. If you refer a member of your family or friends to us, and they have a successful claim, you will be entitled to a £50 referral payment.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.

    Kind regards

I'm not sure why you mention paying a debt collector?

Are you saying that JPS Financial Limited charged you for informing you that your PPI was not valid due to it being pre-regulation?

Or are you saying that the failure of your complaint means that you are having to continue paying a debt collector existing debts?

Certainly the claims company should not be charging for informing you that you don't have a valid complaint.

So what point are you actually trying to make?
