  • Hi. Encouraged by the many positive reports on reclaiming PPI I have read about here I decided to give it ago. I phoned NatWest/RSB claims line yesterday around 4.30pm and spoke to an agent who confirmed I'd had PPI on my credit card between 2001-2011. On being told that I wished to make a claim he asked me a series of questions and said I would hear by October 16th whether my claim had been successful. I phoned again this morning at 11.40 to ask a question I had forgotten to ask yesterday and was told, to my utter amazement, that the claim had just been upheld and I was being offered £220. This was roughly the amount I had calculated although I was so taken aback by their speedy response I forgot to ask if the figure included interest. For the whole matter to be concluded within 24 hours is unbelievable, maybe because the amount is very small change for the bank they decided to go ahead and pay it without question.
  • Hi folks

What were you reclaiming: PPI on loans
    Who was the provider: BoS
How much did you get back: over £5,000
And then write your brief reclaim tale I had been thinking about it for ages but was worried regarding existing credit but they issued me a letter stating that it would not affect my current banking situation in any way.
I just filled in the FoS questionnaire instead of the Banks questionnaire and sent off my loan info I had, spoke to the bank on the phone when they called me and bam, way more than I ever imagined. Very happy and worth doing yourself as every penny Is now mine! :)
  • For the last 12 years I have been through many loans and credit cards, many with PPI included.
Today I am starting my quest to reclaim . . .

It's overwhelming to say the least as there are 7 cards; 4 or 5 loans and a scattering of paperwork.

i'm starting with the MSE Templates to each Lender.
    I'll keep you posted
  • Nice one . . . i'm just starting to claim back now after 12 yrs of woe.
I see you reclaimed from Citi-card - I had 1 of theirs but they became OPUS.
What No. did you use to contact city for reclaim may I ask ?

  • I hope to be able to report back to you all my successes with reclaiming PPI however, I need to be honest that I have gone through an agent! I have been an avid browser of this site for some years and fully understood the strong views against using agents however, my particular situation meant that I needed help. In total I had 22 companies that I needed to approach. I felt completely overwhelmed. I have been going through a tough time over the past 18 months and didn't feel I had the time or the focus.

I was determined to avoid paying 30% for putting a stamp on an envelope but was willing to pay what I considered 'reasonable' for the convenience.

I found a company charging 15% and was ok with that. I don't really want to hand over any of my refunded cash but my situation meant I had to. The company deals only with PPI so left it up to me to pursue my credit card charges.

I have subsequently found four other loan companies dating back to 1991 which I will pursue myself...you might ask why didn't I do that in the first place? In answer...sometimes you need someone else to make a clearing before you can see the path ahead! Everyone's circumstances and reasons are unique and in my opinion should not be judged as wrong or stupid. We will all get there in the end!

    Thanks

When you signed with the claims co, you gave them permission to look into all PPI that you had, be careful as they will want the 15% plus Vat on those you do yourself.

    I found a company charging 15%
    Plus Vat.

I am curious as to what they did with the claims that you could not do yourself, 22 claims is a lot to be fair but a telephone call to the banks would have set the ball rolling in the first instance, you would have saved yourself 15% plus vat, that is a lot of money to give away if all 22 claims win plus the ones you have found.

Be careful, as I said, with other claims you make.
  • Hi,

Just wanted to report 2 success stories in reclaiming PPI from HSBC Graduate Loans taken out in ~2001. The loans were taken by my husband and I independently and were arranged effectively in the same face to face meeting at a HSBC branch, however in terms of claiming the money back - we encountered slightly different routes. I thought it would be worth telling the story to encourage other people in similar circumstances. Sorry in advance for the length of the post.

As I mentioned, both my husband (then boyfriend) and I took graduate loans with HSBC in 2001. The loans were arranged in the same face to face meeting in a HSBC branch. We were both graduates and had been employed in permanent positions for about 1 year (NHS and commercial building company). The loans were approx £7K each and we were led to believe that the PPI was part and parcel of the loan. This was to the point where I did not realise it was separate to the loan.

My husband started the process via a simple telephone call to HSBC in May 2014 and I enquired on the off-chance if I had had PPI, to which the response was yes and my application got started in the same manner.

My claim was very straight forward, I completed the PPI form (sent by HSBC) following the guidelines provided here and within ~5 weeks had an offer of approx £2200.

However, my husband was never sent a PPI form and all his details were taken over the telephone by a HSBC advisor, he received a rejection letter 6 weeks later stating the PPI would have provided additional monies in case of redundancy, etc on top of what he would have received from his employer to spend however he so wished. A bit silly since thats exactly why it wasn't required and also why was I awarded a refund when he wasn't! Anyway, after some encouragement from this website again, he followed the process of complaining to the ombudsman and last week (August 2014) received a letter confirming his complaint had been upheld and HSBC were wrong to reject his refund. We are now awaiting the HSBC offer letter.

This highlights that an offer or rejection can be very dependent on who is reviewing the case, as we were both in exactly the same circumstances when the loan was taken out and yet the initial outcomes from the bank were different, for no apparent reason!

We are currently waiting for a response regarding PPI for our graduate mortgage taken out in 2004, again with HSBC.

Just to add, both my husband and I have been with HSBC since the mid 1990s and this remains our main bank - not sure if this will make claiming for a refund from a loan taken out >5 years ago easier.

Actually, the timescale involved at FOS indicates that no adjudication has been made and that the Bank have agreed to pay rather than also incur the Ombudsman fee.
A full FOS referral takes up to eighteen months.

When you receive your offer letter from the Bank it will be a goodwill payment and will not admit any liability.
