PPI Reclaiming successes and failures

I became DF this week. A large part of my debt was a loan that I had refinanced a couple of times. In 2012 I took advice on the PPI board, printed the forms, sent them off and got back £7,000 which was a huge help towards conquering my debt. Amersall, I am sure I thanked you at the time but really your help and advice on the matter was a godsend and I am pleased to say the loan has now gone once and for all0

Hi All
I successfully reclaimed £168 back from MBNA account dates back to 2002 (only made a few payments as had the sense to cancel).

I,ve just received just short of £1300 from barclays - I realised that when they were taking PPI I was a SAHM, and could not recall ever agreeing to it, put in a claim appox 4 weeks ago direct with Barclays and had a nice surprise in my account when I got home today - really chuffedNote to self - STOP SPENDING MONEY !!
£300/£1300 -
I Couldn't believe it!
After hearing about re-claiming PPI I didn't think I had any chance of reclaiming the numerous policies I was forced to take out with bank loans taken out in the 1980's.
You heard me right! the 1980"s.
I new I had PPI on three loans in the 1980's and early 1990's, I had no evidence or anything written down it was all remembered in my mind.
I used the links provided by the Money Saving Expert Site and started my application. I asked them to provide all the information they had about me dating back to 1982 when I joined the TSB using the Freedom of Information Act.
After a phone call from the bank, six weeks later I got my reply. They had upheld all my claims. £2300 on three loans and I'm still waiting for another claim.
If you can remember the loans time is not an issue!

I have had updates via email and letter from the Ombudsman, every 6 months but it seems that the two catalogue companies involved are saying they are not responsible for the mis-sold PPI. The original catalogue company who made the cold call to my home, say that, as they sold the company on, they are not liable to refund the PPI.
How long can these claims run? Is there a time limit in which PPI claims must be settled, one way or the other? I have two friends who had both of their claims settled within 8 weeks, although they didn't do it themselves. They opted to have someone do it all for them. Both lost quite a chunk of their claim in fees!
I have been waiting FOUR years and counting for a resolution. One year of that was waiting for my case to reach the front of the FOS queue, the last 3 has been down to my bank stalling and employing dirty tactics - such as falsely claiming the account was closed in 2010 when all documented evidence proves otherwise (even the FOS agrees).
This is despite my case being a fairly straightforward one - HBOS agreed from the start (in writing) I was due a refund in line with the FOS guidelines as this was "the only fair and reasonable way of addressing my complaint", likewise both parties agree on the amount of premiums due, and both myself and the bank have every single statement for the credit card account so all the necessary info to make a fair calculation is readily available. The account balance has also never fallen below the total amount of premiums charged at any given point so the calculation of interest is even simpler.
In my opinion of course the attempt to claim the account was closed can only be a case of gross incompetence (since they have the statements & supposedly based their calculation on them) or a deliberate attempt to mislead in order to get out of paying back a fair amount. This would have wiped out years of interest due (at 27.95%) as the balance on the account is 100% due to PPI and has been for years now - there have been no new transactions on the card since 2007 and the balance would have been cleared years ago had the PPI not been added. This is according to the bank's own formula sent to me in January.
I appreciate the FOS is in a difficult position and overstretched but, as nice as my adjudicator seems to be, and purely in my own personal experience, they have been no help whatsoever. I am no better off than I was before I forwarded my case to them 4 years ago, the only difference is I'm several thousand of pounds more out of pocket. "Pressuring" the bank for a resolution appears to consist of sending an email, waiting a month to see if anyone bothers responding, and then sending another one - usually only after I've called asking for an update.
I genuinely dont know what to do anymore. I'm due about four thousand pounds (again, according to HBOS' own formula) yet I'm the one paying them each month towards a balance that shouldn't even exist.
Who gives you extra?0 -
Unfortunately the way the FOS is set up even if people are 100% proven not to have PPI or they specifically asked for it they can still refer cases from the bank's initial rejection. I've seen people on here with figures suggesting a significant % of all claims don't even have PPI let alone those who were not mis-sold and of course all the claims management companies will refer every rejection on in hopes of a payout - that is what clogs up the workload and leads to delays for genuine complaints.
Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:
People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.
