    No children.

However, I agree that the Bank will want to see proof that Hayles80 could have afforded to continue paying the mortgage to completion in the event of redundancy or illness. Having "really good jobs" just indicates a need for insurance.

Thanks Taff, I know. Am hoping he'll do the decent thing, but even if he doesn't, as the loan co don't have a current address for him at least if he decides not to help me out, he won't be able to get his half. Petty, I know, but I'm sure it's no skin of AA Finance's nose if they don't have a £5k cheque cashed!

I hope you have better luck than me in this situation. My loan is still active and apparently is still in joint names even though on my credit file I have no further financial links with my ex, who paid nothing towards the loan. Halifax sent him a cheque for his half of my PPI and he's spent it already.

You're lucky your ex doesn't bank with the same place :)
  • My husband and I heard an advert on the local radio station for ppi claim back, we contacted them, as we thought it must be ok if they were on radio. They sent someone round explained process, between me and my husband we gave the £1800, a month later we got a letter to say the company had gone bankrupt, we lost all our money never heard from them again, that was 5 yrs ago, since then I have had numerous phone calls from companies and automated calls just like everyone else, I've always said no not after the traumatic experience of loosing £1800, but yesterday I sat at my PC and went on a couple of my bank websites, I typed in ppi, rang them to find I have paid ppi and finally I'm going to go ahead and claim on my own. But help from this site, I will let you no how I get on.

Some of the biggest CMCs that used to exist used radio adverts and went on to fail after taking millions of pounds of consumers money up front. Many of us saw it coming and posts existed on this board in advance of their failures warning people.

Sorry that you fell for it and lost money. However, hopefully others will see your post and learn from your mistake. Never, ever pay any money up front.

  • Hi sent off my PPI claim to lloyds TSB a few weeks back after a friend advised I should really look into having been mis sold it when I was younger, popped into my local branch and they gave me the number to call. I was sent out the forms for loans and credit cards, showing 5 loans and two CC. Had a call about the loans on Monday 3 had PPI on them and two more recent ones did not as I flatly refused to take it out. They asked me for more detail for the time period, salary, sickpay, redundancy and death in service benefit all of which I had and also I advised that I had been in the same secure job for the past 21 years. Just waiting on a letter in the next two weeks to see if I have been successful in my claim and some contact about the credit cards. The loans were all from pre 2000. two in 96 and 1 in 99 when I was younger and more gulable with what the bank staff were advising / selling

Anyone can advertise goods and services on the radio as long as the adverts are legal, decent, honest and truthful.

Being on the radio (or TV or newspaper ) does not indicate any official sanction.
  • Hi all,

Ok, I understand some will look down on me for "not knowing my finances" but anyway...

I called RBS as I'd had a number of loans/credit cards with them over the years, they said I'd had ppi on one of the loans from about 10 years ago. Now I know 100% that I would have not taken this out as I was employed at the time with sickness and death cover and I have always said no to that sort of thing. However when they called yesterday, prior to sending a final decision and asked what method I'd been sold the loan (phone, branch etc) I wasn't sure so said I really couldn't remember (which is true).
I'm now concerned that they won't take my claim seriously although, again, I know that there is no way that I would have taken this out. I know it would definitely have been in branch or over the phone. Would it be worth calling them back and telling them this?
Has anyone else had this problem and how did it go?
    Cheers in advance

You still can't remember so there's not much point no.

And they wouldn't have added it without your permission, that's a myth.

  • Thanks Taff, appreciate your honesty.
I remember around that time that I did go into the branch to discuss finances but I also spoke to them over the phone, just can't remember which time I was sold the loan. Again, this is 10 years ago. I had just started working with a big reputable company who offered excellent cover so I would not have considered ppi. Think I will call them tomorrow and explain a little further... Cheers

Either one it doesn't really matter because you were 'advised' to buy it.
[it's not really advised but people assume it's advice...dunston et al can explain further:)]

The main problems with PPI were
either you could have afforded repayments with another income, savings or good work benefits
    or
it wouldn't have paid out due to pre exisiting serious medical conditions
    or
you were self employed and the terms were too onerous [i.e. shutting the company down and claiming benefits/having NI paid]
    or
single premium that didn't cover you for all the loan/single premium [sometimes/often]/single premium on a chain of loans
