PPI Reclaiming successes and failures

Hello,
I would like to add that HSBC have written to me today to that they are to pay me another £170 in redress on top of my original claim from two years ago. It's not your credit score that counts, it's your credit history. Any replies are my own personal opinion and not a representation of my employer.0 -

How do they know where he is?
Phone and ask whether the paperwork you have is enough for them to rescind his cheque.Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi0 -
I had a rather surprising letter from MBNA yesterday...
Basically, in early 2012, I'd tried to reclaim PPI payments on an old Virgin credit card (underwritten by MBNA), based on the fact that the online application had a pre-ticked box and the website errored so it wouldn't untick.
They rejected the claim, and I never got around to taking it to the Ombudsman for various reasons.
Yesterday I got a letter out of the blue, saying they'd basically relooked at my case and that they'd decided it actually should be upheld. And that they're going to send me a cheque within 28days for £1485, and apologised for the delay in their judgement.
Needless to say I'm well chuffed, esp as we're going to Paris soon so spending money isn't so much of a stress now!0 -

have given up on this as Black Horse say they only go back 6 years.
It may be too late for you, but UDT was taken over by TSB circa 1990 ish. It became UDT Direct, and then TSB Direct - both run out of the TSB Trustcard office in Brighton.0 -
Having spent most of my twenties and thirties in debt (and up to my eyeballs in it), being able to reclaim mis-sold PPI has for me been a dream come true. Using just the templates on this site, I managed to instantly have a deposit on a house last year (£40,000 returned to me from 4 lenders - we bought a house and moved in last July having rented all my adult life). Even better, I found another one a couple of weeks ago that I'd completely forgotten about. Tesco Bank - thank you very much for the £3900 you've just paid me - that'll sort my garden out nicely!
It has been a completely transformational process for me, and I can't thank enough MSE and all the kind people on here who are so generous with their time and knowledge x0 -

I'm assuming he still banks with them. We had a joint account which became solely mine when we split and he had his own account with them too. They said they've sent a cheque so he must still bank with them. Annoying that they tell me it's my responsibility to deal with him when they know where he is and I don't! My mistake for naively thinking the loan account was dealt with on the mortgage split I suppose!
Will contact them tonight with the paperwork update.

Knowing my partner had 2 loans with Lloyds back in 2003 I thought it worth pursing if he had ppi on the loans. He rang lloyds and they sent out a claim form. Lo and behold he had ppi on the loans, as well as a third loan that he had forgot about.
We filled in the claim form and sent it off. 4 days later, lloyds rang to clarify a few details (work benefits etc) We was told we would hear something within the next 3 weeks.
10 days later, we receive an apology and a figure of £3,680.02 due to be paid by bacs. We were totally floored!! Never did we think we'd receive that amount. :j
We have paid off our credit card bill and have chopped the card upand still have money in the bank to start off saving for a mortgage, something we never thought would happen. For the first time in 14 years we are totally debt free.
Thanks to everyone who's posted on this thread, all the success stories had given us the confidence to go ahead with reclaiming. We really didnt think it'd be this easy. Good luck to everyone else reclaiming!

thank you martin and all the lovely posters on this site who inspired me to have a go!
Today i recieved a letter from RBS (for a sainsburys card protection plan).
They initially said no, but I rang them just over a month ago and stated my case again. Recieved a phone call where they asked for more info a week later.
Then lo and behold an offer today of just over £2k which will pay off my credit card balance and leave a little over for holiday spends!:j
So please if you do get a rejection letter give it a go and ring them before escalating its definatley worth a try x
Payment so far: £1300 HSBC graduate loan (2001 - no paperwork!)
£2100 Sainsburys card protection
just got 1 old loan to chase now!0 -
hi I would like to say a huge thank you. I have had an HSBC credit card for approx 20 years. For many years I was very good and paid it off in full, then over the years I made minimum payments and extra payments now and then.
Nearly two years Ago I submitted a claim for PPI using the template letters on this site. I was offered approx £3000 without question. Advised this was the amount for the past 7 years and that was all the bank had record of. I did not accept knowing I had 'somewhere safe' all of my previous statements. In the meantime I could not find my statements, the relationship with the ex who liked to buy things on my credit card ended and I packed my belongings and went back to live with my parents. Kind of forgot about the claim.
A few weeks ago I was amazed to receive a letter saying they had now found my info from the date I took out the credit card and PPI and would like to offer me £14000 which was broken down into what I had paid, interest etc.
I very quickly signed and returned the letter and the money has been paid into my account.
I was able to pay off my credit card and have money left over!!!
So thank you for the template letters
Perhaps not the best way to save but it will be a nice start to my new life :-)
Good luck everyone :T0 -
I had a similar experience to sucker2011. I claimed from HSBC about 3 years ago, was offered the last 6 years worth with them claiming they didn't keep records before that. I knew that I didn't have any (destroyed on house move) so I reluctantly accepted the offer of about £4000 after several discussions with them (I didn't believe that they didn't have archives of their old data somewhere).
Then, 2 weeks ago, out of the blue a letter saying they've found the records and they actually owe me another £12K. Money would be transferred to my account within 4 weeks - it was there less than a week later.
I can only assume that they were trying to get away with the '6 year' thing and either someone pushed them into admitting they had the records or they realised just how shaky the ground was.
In any event, I am very happy0
