Hi everyone, just wanted to ask if anyone else has had a letter from MBNA out of the blue? they paid a small amount of ppi rebate 3 years ago and today got a letter stating that 'following routine quality assurance checks, we have identified and administration error and the ppi refund was calculated incorrectly'. Basically in the next 28 days they will send my outstanding £2911.14 :j:j:j:j:j:j oh happy day!!!!!!
Thanks for all the help along the way MSE!!
I've been recommended going it alone on claiming miss old ppi, I was about to use a 3rd party claim company. So I found an old credit card statement with MBNA and sure enough I had been paying ppi, I downloaded the claim form and sent it in following the guidelines on this site.
After around 6 -8 weeks got a letter today saying my claim was declined citing "after considering all of the info they had available to them that I would have received benefit from the policy in the event of me being unable to work due to accident, sickness etc. they are not persuaded that at the time the policy was I had sufficient means to cover my repayments for a long period if needed. my ppi policy was available to cover the monthly payments so would have been of benefit"

On checking my original claim in the section where they asked how I would be able to make repayments if I didn't have cover I said I had relatives who would have helped me out as the credit card balance was for only a small amount (under £300) to the sums of around £50/month

Any advice before I pass this to the FOS, not a good first decision given I have several other claims pending some for far greater amounts but thought I would post this in case anyone can offer any advice etc.

    Thx

Relatives, sadly, are not a good reason for the debt being repaid in any eventuality.
If you had a good sick package from work, life insurance or any savings then these are what you must use to show you had no need of the PPI.

The amounts concerned are irrelevant. £1 or £10,000, what you need are valid and (preferably) verifiable complaint reasons. Your complaint is weak and you can expect FOS to want evidence of any ability you had to pay in the event of losing your job or becoming too sick to work.

A FOS referral takes around eighteen months.

No arrears or defaults.. will look forward to thier letter!

    Thanks for the reply :):D
Hi, hope you don't mind me asking, have you heard anything yet, as your case is exactly the same as mine, same year, same value and I got a letter in Feb but now have been told that they are having problems calculating the payment and interest. If you have it will give me a bit of hope :-)

Just thought I'd post my experience.
First time we claimed against lloyds tsb we "stupidly" used a claim firm who done nothing apart from forwarding my claim form. We were awarded £3000 with the fos involvement.
Then secondly I took out 2 loans with HSBC and one had ppi. Sent claim form myself outlining that I was paying a single repayment, was sold the loan in branch and that I had a second loan without ppi so of I was concerned about ppi I would've taken it on the second loan. They refused saying I had all the info about ppi in the loan pack I was given and had 14days to cancel it.
Complained to fos, advised if I was told about the ppi details in the info pack I would've canceled so as it were I did not know about the ppi so had no reason to sift through all the bumf.
Received letter from fos in my favour and gave hsbc 8wks to settle.
Today receive their offer, I was expecting a few hundred pounds in fact its £3390 which I'll gladly accept.
Just wanted to share my experience with everyone

I hope you cancelled your contract with the claim firm in writing otherwise they'll be after you for a share of the latest one. There's usually a part in the contract to say they'll represent you in all future complaints.

The lloyds claims were loans in my partners name and she signed the claim contract and was probably about 2yrs ago. The HSBC one was in my name and started nov last yr and concluded with settled now.

My PPI complaint with M & S covering the period from 1991-2006 was rejected - so passed over to FOS 9 months ago. Have now received a letter from FOS advising me Allianz Insurance PLC will be making me an
offer of compensation within the next 8 weeks.

Will be interesting to see what offer comes from Allianz Insurance.
  • Thanks so much - used your templates to make a claim from Barclaycard for PPI on a card which I cancelled about 8 years ago. One letter, one phone call from them and I've received a letter today to say a cheque for £6700 is on its way :j

I was hoping to receive a few hundred pounds so had to sit down when I saw the figure in the letter. It was all so easy and its only about 6weeks since my letter to them.

    Thank you again. :rotfl:

I've just had the Halifax confirm last week that they're paying out £884 against a PPI policy on a loan and £550 on a Bill Protector policy for the same loan.

Was only expecting these lower amounts so pleased that they paid out with no quibble - problem is, according to the paperwork, the loan is still in joint names with my ex whereas I thought his name had been taken off when the mortgage equity was transferred solely into my name (the loan is attached to the mortgage) so they sent half the £884 to him.

They say I need to talk to him, which I can't do as I don't know where he is. I have paperwork comfirming the transfer of equity and also a solicitors letter from that time which states that he confirmed he'd never paid towards the mortgage. Would that be enough to get the half back that's gone to him? Obviously the bank has heard nothing from him in the two weeks since he would've received the cheque so he's kept it!!

    Thanks.
