Nice fast payout from Natwest, was in my account with 5 days of me sending off my acceptance forms.
Still waiting on the Barclaycard one, which I did back in January, so hopefully hear shortly. The CPP one, I sent off about a week ago.
Got my Barclaycard refund yesterday, over £1700, so that's Natwest 5800, Egg 2300 & Barclaycard £1700.
Just the CPP one now left, if I get it, then it will be over £10k back in PPI refunds.0 -

Early in 2013, I had been made unemployed abroad through my companies criminal actions, and returned to the UK with the family, absolutely penniless.
Prior to leaving the UK eight months earlier we were paying off a Halifax credit card, we have had it since 2002 and never missed payments, prior to our return we had to pay rent and flights, which increased the amount of debt owed prior to our return. For a while, we were still meeting payments using Job seeker Allowance, the intention was I would find work and pay the card as usual however my health took a hit and I landed up on Employment Support Allowance, and still no job in sight. I contacted the Halifax when the payments were becoming a problem, and they informed me that I had Payment Protection cover, which came as a surprise to me as I did not think I had such cover, so I completed the forms and sent them back.
I was informed by the Halifax that I would not be able to make a claim, because I had been out of the country and had not been paying National Insurance prior to the claim (I wasn't aware that Halifax insurance was linked to HMRC).
I then started noticing adverts for PPI Claims, and contacted Gladstone Brookes, filled in the paperwork and sent it off, I then was told that a letter needed to go to the Ombudsman. Halifax said that I was sold the policy all above board and the Ombudsman has also sided with the bank, end of assistance by Gladstone Brookes.
I feel so stupid, for getting into this situation and stupid for getting ripped off. I am working with the Stepchange debt charity to try and sort this out but can only meet token payments because of my situation, and just today was told by Halifax that my debt is now with a debt recovery agency.
Has anybody got decent advice about this, please please keep it sensible, I am not sure I can take much more of this.
Kind regards in advance.0 -

Proves the FOS are useless........ how long ago was the final response from FOS? if it was under 6 months, I would write back to FOS and ask that this be looked at again and give the reasons why you could not claim on this product when you needed it.
Make sure that you have it in writing from Gladstones that they are not dealing with this any more, let the FOS know that you are not using them because if you win then Gladstone will want a %.0 -
Hi
I took two car loans out in 1996 and 1998 respectively through my bank. Back then you typically had to visit the bank and go through an interview to get loans which was what i did on both occasions. About 2 years ago I contacted them to ask if I had paid ppi on these loans. I was certain that I would not have agreed to this as they were for small amounts and I was in secure employment with no overheads as I still lived with parents. The bank wrote back to me to say that yes I had paid ppi on these loans but that as it was so long ago they did not have the paperwork. They also said that it would have been explained to me during the verbal meeting with the bank so I was not missold.
I reported this to the financial ombudsman nearly 2 years ago and they came back to me today to say that they were not upholding my complaint as whilst they could confirm I paid the ppi because the meeting was face to face and the bank had no paperwork they could not prove that I was missold. I explained that I felt the fos were siding with the bank and were making assumptions without evidence. He confirmed that I met all the criteria set out by the bank to not be required to take ppi!!! I was told that a letter was being sent out to explain there decision and that I could appeal this if still unhappy.
I need advice? What are the chances of them changing their decision if I appeal?0 -
You can ask for your case to be seen by an actual ombudsman, but the burden of proof is on you to shw it was missold. If there is no paperwork, there is no proof.
The chances are not good.Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi0 -

Remember, FOS is not there to automatically side with the customer (or the Bank), they look at complaints as impartially as possible.
Unfortunately, what you describe was a weak hearsay complaint for which you could provide no verifiable evidence. In the absence of any evidence, FOS (and the Bank before it) have to look at the suitability of the insurance for your circumstances at the time of the sale. Clearly you met with all the criteria.
Personally, after two years, I'd be letting this one go-but it's your choice if you wish to continue to the (bitter) end.0 -
Okay, stupid question probably, but what if you don't have any of your previous loan or credit card agreements to hand? I have had various loans from TSB (original) and Lloyds TSB, I know I paid PPI on these but have in more recent times got more savvy and said no to it. Am I best writing a letter directly to TSB and Lloyds?0
