Wow!!..and well done:beer:....please could I ask what your reason for miss-sell was, and how long you had the policy for?....only I have put a claim for the same and am waiting to hear:eek:

The policy was a ten year one that I was talked in to. I had more than enough cover with my company sick pay scheme considering position in the company. My mortgage was over 15 years so the premium was quite high hence the amount.

    Cheers
  • I didn't receive a letter about claiming CPP, but when I heard it discussed by the Consumer Team on BBC Radio 5 Live, I decided to investigate if I could claim. I checked through my credit card statements and found some payments, though I knew I didn't have them all. I called Barclaycard and told them I wanted to claim. A customer service advisor took me through the form there and then over the phone - the whole process took about 10 mins and I didn't have to remember too many details, they said they would be able to look up the payments for me from my credit card records. I was told I would get a letter within 5-10 working days to inform me of the outcome. Well, that's exactly what happened! I have been refunded over £500.00!! I even got to choose whether I wanted it paid into my credit card account, or straight into my current account. Amazingly simple and stress free. Thank you MSE and Radio 5 Consumer Team - without you I wouldn't have known I could claim!!

From the phone call I had the paperwork within a few days. I sent it off and got a call from them about 3-4 weeks later going through the detail. I got a decision about 2 weeks after that. I think they have up to 8 weeks to give you a decision. If they refuse you can go to the financial ombudsman. I had to do that with Lloyd's TSB and the ombudsman upheld my complaint and I got 2100 from that

Successful claim from Barclaycard from about 10 years ago or even more.
Took a bit of perseverance but got there in the end.
Got more than expected as they added interest on.
So got about £1.5 k for the family member I helped to claim.
We had to go to the FO but in the end I think a great result from 3 phone calls and 2 or 3 letters :)
Thanks as always to MSE for their help.

    I'm married it's already spent ;-) ;-)
  • I had seen much in the press and on TV about the PPI scandal but thought nothing much about it. However, I then received a letter from Citi Financial (they tracked ME down to my new address) to advise that I may be in a category of people who may have been mis-sold PPI with a loan(s) I had taken with them. I filled in the information they required and within 13 DAYS they replied, upholding my complaint and offering to repay £1167.99. I was absolutely astounded. Especially so as I had just spent the last 19 MONTHS dealing with Halifax on behalf of my partner who had no idea what PPI was or that he actually had it. The end result? The FOS upholding his complaint and a payment of just under £4,000. He admitted that after the first rejection letter from Halifax, he would have just let it go. How glad I am that I took it on for him!

I've now submitted complaints to Citi Financial for a credit card I had with them, BarclayCard and Capital One. Even though I cancelled the PPI a few years ago, I know I paid a hefty amount up to then. We'll wait and see what happens. ;)
  • Just fill in the relevant sections and send to HMRC with a cover note explaining that this is tax paid on PPI redress interest.
Do be aware that you are not exempt from tax simply because you receive ESA and will only receive a refund if your earnings for the year do not exceed your tax free allowance.

I'm not sure what section is relevant though!!! Thanks for the heads up on the ESA and tax thing, I presume HMRC will know what's what with my tax situation and refund the right amount...I havn't really got a scooby!

Having another look at the form do I use the section titled "Any other income and benefits"??

If you're having difficulty with the form, I advise you to speak directly with HMRC. While their call answering leaves a lot to be desired (you may be on "hold" for some time), their operators are helpful and patient.

I cannot advise you further, having never filled a tax refund form.

If you remain unsure, I'd try posting in the "Saving tax" sub forum
