PPI Reclaiming successes and failures

I took out an Egg Loan with PPI in Sept 2001. It was a pre ticked box and you couldn't got any further.
Sent off the FOS claim form on 03/02/2014 giving all the details I had and received a letter back stating they were upholding my complaint and made me an offer. As the loan is outstanding they are giving me back by cheque the PPI I have paid for, interest and the 8% from the date I paid until when I claimed. The PPI on the loan that is still outstanding, interest and 8% from the date it was sold is going to Arrow Global to restructure the loan.
Thanks MSE great advice that worked. Fingers crossed for the others that are waiting to hear back and for the others that I have reclaimed.0 -
Hello,
I have had a letter in the post form Barclaycard saying that as I took out my credit card online in 2002 then I knew full well the terms and conditions of PPI so they will not refund. However I know I would not say yes to PPI as I am a teacher and therefore have full sickness and redundancy packages. I also took out another credit cards with them 1 year later and did not opt for PPI and was in the same situation.
I am also aware after having read on other MSE forums that Egg was involved in using pre-ticked boxes which I believe is how I ended up with this PPI in the first place ( which I only realised before Christmas) Has anyone had any luck with Egg and claiming money back during this 2002 period as I know they very much deny the use of pre-ticked boxes as say it was my choice and offered a non- advisory service.
Thank you:o

Anyone successfully claimed PPI back from nationwide recently
They sent me a letter stating there practices were not robust back then
and could be due PPI repayment but yet to receive anything further after
sending in a robust complaint

What were you reclaiming: 2 x Loan PPI
Who was the provider: Egg Loans (now Canada Square Operations)
How much did you get back: ~£10K
Did you get it back after a letter or did you go to the Financial Ombudsman: SAR sent first and then Complaint Form.
And then write your brief reclaim tale:
Loans were form circa 2003-2004.
SAR Letter sent in January 2014, confirmation of identity/address and £10 requested, SAR information received (a lot of it), loan agreements showed PPI, but no terms or optional statement, just the amount being front loaded onto the loan. Complaint sent stating pre-ticked box on application, no suitability questions asked, no statement to say the PPI was optional, I had ample savings and cover at the time to tide me over for 12 months+ in the event of redundancy/critical illness etc.
Offer letter received and accepted including interest on the premiums, 8% court interest less HMRC's pound of flesh plus premiums.

Hi. I put in a claim for ppi on my aqua credit card as I only realised it was on there when I paid off the full amount and cancelled the card only to get another statement with a balance of 43 pound on it. When I phoned to query it I was told that some was interest and the rest was a ppi charge. I was given an address to write to to claim back my ppi.
I wrote to them telling them I did not request ppi and I did not need or want it as I was in full time employment with full pay sick pay for at least 3 months and also my partner also had a full time and part time job at the time so we could easily cover any payments if anything happened. I received a claim form which I sent back. I received a letter 3 weeks later after I had missed their calls saying that they had investigated it and and was not entitled as it was a postal application and I had would have been required to tick a box so I knew I was buying it. They did not send me any copies of this. I have phoned them and made my points that I did not tick and could they send me a copy of this and also again mentioned my companies sick pay and the 3 incomes we had. I also then wrote a letter also stating that if they had contacted me to confirm my eligability and circumstances they would have found out I neither needed or wanted the ppi.
My question is... what are the chances of getting my ppi back? If the box had been ticked (which im sure I wouldnt have) is it game over?

In addition, you claim that you only "found out" that you had PPI by closing the account and discovering an outstanding balance. PPI is actually shown on each monthly statement on a separate line-it is not hidden.
Do note, however, that PPI is only paid when the account has a balance, so if you regularly paid off the balance, no PPI would have been paid and nor would it show on your statements. If this is the case, then you won't have paid much PPI.
I wouldn't hold out any hope that they send you a copy of your original postal application with the PPI selection box un-ticked.0 -
Thanks for your reply. Im not holding out much hope even though I am sure I wouldnt have ticked it. They have not stated in the letter that I have they have said that I would of had to. I have seen other posts where they have sent out copies with the rejection letter so im not convinced that they actually have the origionals as it was from 2004. They also said I would have been required to sign an agreement but again did not state that I had actually signed one so dont think they have copies of this either. I suppose its just a matter of waiting for a response from them now :-)0

You still haven't answered why you only "spotted" the PPI when you closed the account? Ten years of statements is well over a hundred times the PPI will have been detailed on a separate line!
If you can't find it on statements, then you never paid it!0 -
I only found out in all honesty due to bad money management. My credit card was maxed just about all the time. I would get statements through look at what the minimum payment was and when it was due and send it off. Never really used the card once it was maxed so didnt think about looking at the statements in detail and just assumed the extra charges were interest or late payments or over limit charges where I had made a late payment. Basically avoided the debt as much as possible. I am now just happy its paid off.0
