Hi Guys quick question i sent my complaint to fos in Oct 2012 i know they say it could take 2 years just wondered if anyone else was still waiting to hear from them, I havent heard from them in ages... Just tried to call but put the phone down I was 14th in the line and I'm at work will try later..

def contact them!! i tweeted them the other day as i realised it had been just over 18 months and i had heard nothing.......had a phonecall to say they had not recieved the questionaire back!!!! argh!!!!!! that'll trust me to be patient for the first and only time in my life!!!
luckily they have the record of my phonecall and initial contact so are sending it back out for me to do (this time its going recorded and i shall be checking up) and have assured me that altho its now well outside the 6 month time frame that it will still be looked into as they have allowances for things like this!

feel so stupid i never checked up but at the time(june/july 12) they were deluged with complaints and i was told it could be 18 months + so not to worry/keep pestering etc....normally im a nightmare and so impatient its untrue!

    Hi

Thanks for all the advice on MSE forums about PPI - it encouraged me to have a go at claiming back missold PPI on an HSBC loan (£1k PPI paid up front) in 1999. I was a temp at the time so the PPI insurance wasn't of any use for me and I was told it was compulsory.

I only had one original bank statement and no other paperwork. After messing me about asking for endless proof of ID and then failing to reply within the 8 week period, I referred the claim to the Ombudsman. I had an offer from HSBC for £87 which seemed a bit low!

The Ombudsman were great with advice, particularly when I came across a pile of original statements I hadn't had to hand when making my complaint to HSBC. The statements covered all the payments on that loan and also reminded me I'd been mis-sold PPI a second time by HSBC when I consolidated the loan. The Ombudsman agreed to keep my details on file until I had written to HSBC to a) make a new complaint about the second loan PPI and b) asked them to reconsider their £87 offer in light of the bank statements I had found.

Amazingly, it worked! The Ombudsman sent one letter to HSBC to let them know they would be investigating my case, but didn't need to do any more as I got an offer from HSBC within 10 days upholding both complaints and with a compensation offer of £4,200 minus basic rate tax. It was based on about £1k PPI charge per loan, with about £1k of interest at 8% on top per loan (backdated to 1999).

I sent my acceptance form special delivery on Monday and the money was in my account by Friday of the same week :j

Needless to say, I am over the moon.

The only advice I would share is that I was told by the Ombudsman that they would only be able to consider the first complaint in light of the evidence I had originally sent to HSBC (ie not the extra statements) unless I had given copy statements to HSBC and asked them to reconsider. I am grateful for this advice as I would have lost nearly £2k in compensation had I not done this.

    Good luck all.

What were you reclaiming: Mortgage Repayment Protection Insurance
Who was the provider: Natwest Mortgages
How much did you get back: ~£6K
Did you get it back after a letter or did you go to the Financial Ombudsman: SAR sent first and then Complaint Form.
And then write your brief reclaim tale:
After reading up some on this site and the general media noise about PPI I decided to look into it when I had some "quiet time" from work over Christmas.
I looked at various loans, CC's and accounts and discovered that not only did I have MRP, but that Natwest had continued to take the premiums 2 years after I settled the mortgage.
A SAR letter didn't turn up a lot (I did get a bit of a run around between Natwest Mortgages and Natwest Insurance) , but they did admit that MRP had been applied and was still active and gave me the policy number and amounts taken (they also had the cheek when I called to cancel to state that they could keep it going on my new property/mortgage even though its not with Natwest any more).
Digging into old paperwork (mortgage was taken out in 2000) and notes I found that they had stated during the meetings that the MRP was mandatory in order to get the loan and that I had informed them at the time I had critical illness cover/savings against which I would be able to over 12 months salary. The mortgage was only for ~30% of the value of the property also, so its not like they were insuring against risk on value to loan ratio.
Offer letter was received including 8% court interest less HMRC's pound of flesh plus premiums (MRP was separate from the mortgage so no interest charged against them).
1 down, 11 others to go.
  • Reclaiming PPI on behalf of hubby
    From Halifax
    Getting back 320
Via a phone call. Didnt fill in the form sent out but still got a letter today with details of refund to be sent by chq

Very happy will need to dig some more in to hubby's paperwork!
    :j
    May 2013 new beginnings:j
  • Very happy this 1/2 term as HSBC paid up 15K for policies dating back years. I had no personal documentation or dates to show when these policies started; just a memory that I had paid the PPI insurance in the past. I would encourage everyone to claim. The monies paid off all my debts and still left something for 1/2 term treats. To think I nearly allowed one of these "Companies" to claim on my behalf for a 30% fee.... Better in my pocket. Thanks Martin.
  • I got over £5k back from Alliance & Leicester / Santander, just over a year ago, after using the MSE template questionnaire. Brilliant!
  • What were you reclaiming:PPI on a loan

    Who was the provider: Halifax

How much did you get back: £7,751.71 incl interest

Did you get it back after a letter or did you go to the Financial Ombudsman: I downloaded the templates from here 2 years ago and did receive an acknowledgement at the time, but then nothing since. I was waiting because I read that it could take up to a year or two to hear the result.
By now the thought 'enough is enough' and rang Halifax, it was a quick and easy phone call and just over a week I received the letter of good news.
    Feeling ecstatic!!
So go for it - get your money back. I'm off to plan my family holiday now:T
  • Credit Card from Nationwide
Got £564 total including over £300 premiums, interest at card rate and 8% compensation interest.
Filled out their online form (link from the MSE story on reclaiming getting easier) to find out if I had PPI on any products, then replied to a letter I was sent saying I may have had on a credit card for my situation etc and within a month I had a offer.
Couldnt be happier and would recommend to anyone this simple and painless process with nationwide. Going to look into if I had on anything else now!
  • Really pleased to be able to write this up. We sought redress on my wife's behalf on 3 credit cards dating back to 2003. We only had a copy of an old statement for each of them so just lifted the account numbers from each of them. We are now waiting for news on a separate application for two loans submitted at the same time.

Application made on 3rd February, acknowledgement and later letter confirming offer by 24th February. No request for supporting documentation.

What were you reclaiming:PPI on three credit cards.

    Who was the provider: MBNA

How much did you get back: £4590 incl interest

Did you get it back after a letter or did you go to the Financial Ombudsman Got the offer this morning, having used the templates on MBNA's own site, directly from MBNA (Very similar to those used by MSE and Ombudsman).

As many others have said have ago if you are wondering. It was easy using the templates/questionnaires. Thanks to all that have posted and to the site for the advice.
