At least they mention the word "mis-sale".
That is not any indication of the ultimate success. or otherwise, of your referred complaint.

I would be grateful for some advice please. Some twelve months ago I wrote to Santander re. Dorothy Perkins account. I have held this account for over 20 years and took out this card in store with no mention of what ppi was, it was merely just added to the account. The claim was rejected although at the time I was still paying ppi (even though I was over 65). The ppi was cancelled at this point when I pointed this out to them. Although I have not paid a large amount of ppi, I still feel aggrieved that it was simply taken off me and not explained what I was paying for. I did not at the time pass this to the Financial Ombudsman but regret this. Is there any point now to resubmit this claim to Santander?

    No.
Since you can complain only once and you have only six months to refer to the Ombudsman you'll simply have to forget about this now.

By the way, the fact that you were still paying PPI when you reached 65 has nothing to do with mis-selling unless you were already over that age when you originally purchased the insurance.

In addition, the PPI will not have been added without your permission and knowledge (you'll have signed for it and simply don't remember) and would have been detailed separately on each monthly statement when it was billed.

At least you can rest easy knowing you didn't have a strong complaint in the first place...

Hi Guys quick question i sent my complaint to fos in Oct 2012 i know they say it could take 2 years just wondered if anyone else was still waiting to hear from them, I havent heard from them in ages... Just tried to call but put the phone down I was 14th in the line and I'm at work will try later..
  • Some time ago, during a period of particular financial irresponsibility, I took a Shell Cashback card with Citi. When this card was discontinued, the debt I had with them was sold to 'Opus' (who actually trade as 'Progressive'), who promptly hiked up the interest rate. Of course.

When I realised I had PPI on the account, I cancelled it immediately. During this transaction the lady I spoke to at Opus suggested I might have been mis-sold the PPI altogether in the first place and pointed me in the direction of the Ombudsman's questionnaire. This was about a year ago now.

Completed it, sent it off, got a response from Opus saying they disagreed and would not be offering a settlement. I referred to the ombudsman who ruled in my favour; Opus appealed the ruling. The ombudsman came back to me for some more information and once more upheld my claim (all of this taking place over some 6-8 months).

Anyway, long story short: after appealing against the ombudsman as many times as permitted, Opus caved and I had just received a settlement equivalent to just less than one month's gross salary. I'm over the freakin' moon.

Don't use those vulture PPI agencies, but don't accept the first, second or even third response from the credit companies. Particularly those like Opus who, having purchased debt from another company, have even more motivation than most to challenge the claim. :rotfl::T

    Hello:wave:

    • What were you reclaiming: PPI on £680 overdraft held since 1998
    • Who was the provider: Barclays Bank
    • How much did you get back: £8k!!!!!!:j:T
    • Did you get it back after a letter or did you go to the Financial Ombudsman: Completed PPI questionnaire off Barclays website
    • And then write your brief reclaim tale
I finally got round to claiming back my PPI payment on my overdraft (£6.40 every month since 1998). I sent the questionnaire on the Tuesday, received an acknowledgement letter on the Friday, the following Friday I had £8k put into my account for PPI & interest.

This will make such a difference to my monthly outgoings, I have been able to pay off my 2 HUGE credit cards bills, H&M account bill and Next account. We are also changing our car and have a little bit left in the 'emergency' account!

I am SO glad I finally got round to doing this, now I have paid all those debts off I feel so much better and it will be nice to have some disposable income very month!

I am inspired. When you initially made this claim enquriy did you have to send a SAR letter with £10 disclosure fee.

I am in a similar situation.

Look forward to hearing from you.

    Hi there,

I'm new to the forum, just wanted to share my success... I took an Abbey Loan in the year 2000 and recently claimed my PPI back from Santander. I wrote one letter and was requested to complete the standard questionnaire.

Within 2 weeks of my initial letter I received an offer, which I accepted of £2,500... My PPI payments plus interest!! I'm so chuffed and the money was in my account within 3 days of sending back the acceptance letter.

I never thought I would have success so quickly.

I'm now claiming PPI back from ACF Car finance which has already proven difficult and a longer process but I won't give up!!

another inspiring story - did you have to send a SAR letter with £10 fee or did you already have the account details?

    thanks

Reading her posts, the poster in question clearly did not need to send a SAR, as she was claiming on overdraft insurance visible still on her account.

By all means feel "inspired" by those who have had success complaining about mis-sold insurance. (I received £20K myself), but everyone's circumstances are different and yours are such that you need to thoroughly research any PPI you may have held before you can progress any further.

Wanted to thank your website for the help and encouragement it gave us to complete the necessary forms, attach relevant documentation and pass directly to Halifax Building Society our claim for MPPI. We sent the completed forms etc directly to the Halifax in November. We have today received a letter offering us £15,500! We claimed for a policy that we took with them when we took a mortgage out between 1991 and 2002. We were paying £54 a month and were told we could not have a mortgage without the policy as my husband was self-employed. We were unaware that we could have taken a policy from another company and not through the Halifax.

We thought that as it was back in early 1990's it may have proved difficult to pursue. Luckily we did still have quite a few account numbers and documents sent from Halifax when we took the mortgage out, and statements showing payments being made.

I would definitely encourage anyone to try. You may have an opportunity to get some money back and all for a bit of form filling and information digging! Get on to it now!

    Many thanks again.

Again another inspiring story - did you have to complete a SAR and £10 fee or was the account still open?

.. make that claim, I didnt think much of it until recently and now over 6 claims for credit cards going back 20 odd years, i'm getting payments of 14k, 28k, 22k, 14k, 35k and 12k with one more still to come in. 128k in the bank. Did it myself, very straightforward, all have paid up within 6 weeks (Natwest, Barclaycard, Capital one, Bank of Scotland)

Flip me more inspiring stories - did you still have accounts with these banks or were they closed. Did you have to complete a SAR letter accompanied with a £10 fee?

I have a similar situation but all the cards I had in the early 90s are closed but I remember paying PPI on a couple of them just can't remember which ones.
