  • Hi all,

I received a refund of £15,085.08 today. I did not use any claims handling company, just persistent and precise communication. Ironically a claims company cold called today just a few hours after I had the refund in my account, I told them to f**k off!

did my weekly phone call to Barclays yesterday and gave them my complaint reference number as I had done on previous occasions. They asked me 3 security questions to confirm who I was.
    1. DOB
    2. Who else lived at the house with me.
    3. they then proceeded to ask me the Mastermind question.
According to my Equifax report I had a loan in October 2008 and could I tell them who it was with?

Of course I had no Equifax report to-hand so failed their security question. I then went and retrieved the Equifax report and rang back and got to the same question. They gave me a choice of 4 firms to choose from, They must have been looking at a different Equifax report as these four were not on my Equifax report. I failed their security question again.

I have since written them a letter asking if I have been successful or unsuccessful in my application. They now seem to be fobbing me off.

Has anyone else had this problem with Barclays? Is this a stalling tactic employed by them?

At last Letter and good will cheque £1893.00 from Barclays to-day. They state that they could not find me and could not calculate what interest I was owed as it was so long ago 1998 and they had no record of me despite me sending them proof of ppi which I received from

    Barclays Assurance
    Policy Administration Department
    PO Box 12146
    Dublin 2.

They tell me that I will have to find other evidence if I want them to calculate the interest. I will have to accept this as Ombudsman will not be able to help with this pre 2005.

send any claim to Barclays at Canary Wharf in London.
hope this helps others in a similar position.
  • Just had my 3rd success.-this time with 2 HSBC loans.

I just filled in the form and sent it off with a covering note.

Both loans were finished a while ago and I didn't have the numbers, but I got a reply fairly quickly and quoting the numbers.

Just less than 5 weeks later I have an offer of redress for £4821 which I will be accepting.

So thanks to Martin and this site who made it all so easy.
  • What were you reclaiming: Halifax Total Mortgage Protection Ins.
    Who was the provider: Halifax
How much did you get back: £8k :j:T
Did you get it back after a letter or did you go to the Financial Ombudsman: Had to go to FO.
And then write your brief reclaim tale I claimed as at the time of the sale I was in reciept of a monthly pension from my late husband which exceeded my mortgage every month. Because I could prove I had a 2nd income they judged it a mis-sale as I didnt need it. Also claimed for Critical Illness Cover and Life cover back but judging by the response theyve not considered that at all so ive referred it back to them. Not grumbling tho as chuffed Ive got all payments for MPPI back from 2001 to 2010 plus interest
  • 1st claim with barclaycard credit card on PPI for £691! Very easy claim back, filled out the template form and within few weeks they wrote back and put the money straight into my account after acceptance.

2nd claim was with LloydsTSB for a loan i took out 7 years ago. Filled in form like before and got a phone call from a case handler who went through the form (note: keep photocopies of forms!) and then within a couple of weeks they write to me with an amount of £2500 which i checked and accepted and Lloyds paid the money into my account within a few days!

Happy Days!!! Definitely do it - it only take about 20-30 mins to fill out the form.
  • A quick note. Last December filled out the Barclaycard form and sent it off. I had little info regarding my account details or when I closed the account.
A week ago I received 2 letters first saying I would receive just over £100... whoop whoop and second I would receive just shy of £1600 whoop whoop whoop...
Today I received my cheque and galloped off to the bank like a whippet on speed
  • Recently received a cheque for £275 from HSBC for PPI that I paid on a credit card. I was from an account closed about 8 years ago. I was sent a form to fill in and then someone from the bank called to clarify a few details. A few weeks later a cheque arrived! It's not a great amount but I am grateful I claimed as every little helps.

Last month MBNA wrote to me out of the blue stating that they underpaid me PPI premiums repaid to me 2011 .

After tax they were sending. 2.5k by cheque in 28 days.
It arrived early so now banked , still a bit confused ?

I checked my SAR details in 2011 and did think then they underpaid me by 300 ish but I decided to not push it at the time so obviously I missed something else.

  • Hi i have a ppi miss sell claim against first direct/magent windows... i was sold ppi protection on a loan which was provided through magent windows around 1997.. i have ALL the paperwork and statements, i contacted first direct who told me to contact magnet windows... magnet have sent me a letter threatening me for legal costs if i make a claim against them... i have now thought about directing this to fos

just wanted a opinion on this matter, i Was told that if i take out the ppi my loan would be accepted which is of course a miss sell and after i was provided no further information on this product...

any help would be greatly appreciated.

The PPI complaint you made was about a sale from 1997 which is pre-regulation (January 2005) and Magnet have rejected it on that basis (though I'm not sure why they threaten legal action).

Unless a PPI complaint is against major banks etc (who had their own regulation before 2005) then the FOS have no jurisdiction.
    Your complaint is now over.
