PPI Reclaiming successes and failures

My last PPI claim was with the FO from Oct 12 and was with Nat West. My claim was upheld in Dec 13. As there was an outstanding balance on the card, I was fully aware that any amount due would be deducted by the balance outstanding. What I was not aware of was the fact that Nat West didn't bother to write to advise me of the breakdown and simply went ahead and adjusted the account without my signing agreement to anything! I have had to contact them twice now, to ask where the balance that I am owed is...so far have been given a number of differing stories. I am so angry with their total lack of customer service and very glad I do not bank with them!! I have raised this as a complaint with them...though as they have never bothered to contact me before I doubt they will bother...I ..on the other hand am like a dog with a bone and will carry on chasing them for this out of pure consideration on their part...as someone on here said wunch of bankers!Debt at Sept 2006 £63,500:eek:

This is called setting off. http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/banking/setting-offWhat I was not aware of was the fact that Nat West didn't bother to write to advise me of the breakdown and simply went ahead and adjusted the account without my signing agreement to anything!
Banks will sometimes deliberately uphold a weak PPI complaint in the knowledge that it will then off set an existing debt which is in arrears or has defaulted. They are not required to ask your permission to do this.
As for a breakdown of the redress awarded, is there actually anything left after off setting your debt?0 -

Yes £245.39..I know it's not mega bucks but that's besides the point I am fully aware of blind offers by banks, this does not however, justify their lack of customer sevice in communicating with the customer!Debt at Sept 2006 £63,500:eek:

To clarify, Money Ineptitude, the point I am making is about keeping the customer informed...it is after all good practice!Debt at Sept 2006 £63,500:eek:

Was there a debt on the card for them to offset and did they pass to their debt recovery agent , you would have letters from them ?
If so Nat West will leave it up to the debt team to pay the surplus you will need to ring them to find out .Light travels faster than sound.
This is why some people seem as bright until you hear them.0 -
Hey everyone
Been a while since ive been on here .
Anyway just had a success with a claim against Cardiff Pinnacle/ GE Capitol.
This has been on the go since 2010 and got the usual nonsense letters from them both but stuck it out, got the FOS involved whom I had absolutely no faith in after their refusal to uphold my valid claim with First Plus and lo and behold, Pinnacle have accepted liability and have offered me £1500.
So folks, stick it out, taken four years and a lot of letters but hey, result0 -
Had 2nd Barclays overdraft come back offered £90 not a lot considering was from 1998, but have no figures so can't really argue. Better than nothing eh

Hi all
I had a complaint rejected by MBNA and went to the FOS. Got a surprisingly quick response from FOS upholding my complaint. They said that MBNA could take up to 8 weeks to get back to me, and to be patient. We are now at 7 weeks and I have had not one peep from them. Would it be worth calling them ? Will their letter, when it arrives, include the cheque (no idea how much I'll be getting) ? Thing is, I really need the money now so I'm tempted to chase them ...
And, does it "really" have to take them a further eight weeks ?!?!?!
Thank you all0 -

The amount owed to me is £245.39. They did offset the debt outstanding on the card and I was completely aware of this. My post was to point out the poor customer service regarding communication between myself and Nat West. However you look at it....they should communicate with the customer it is good practice!! I am not complaing about the amount I have received ( when I do receive it) I was complaining about the poor communication!!Debt at Sept 2006 £63,500:eek:

And no...the amount was not owed to a debt company! It is owed to me...I would not be complaining about this otherwise!Debt at Sept 2006 £63,500:eek:
