What were you reclaiming: PPI on credit card
Who was the provider: Lloyds TSB
Did you get it back after a letter or did you go to the Financial Ombudsman
    Lloyds standard form
And then write your brief reclaim tale

Realised in 2002 (yep that far back) I had stopped paying credit card bills and it went to repayment plan. Looked at statements and found £200 worth of PPI! Sent in letter and form and Lloyds are sending me a cheque for £407!

Nice to get something back from the wunch of bankers.

Did you get it back after a letter or did you go to the Financial Ombudsman: I had to go to the financial ombudsman
And then write your brief reclaim tale:
I started my claim in August 2012. After a lot of messing around and waiting I finally got a final refusal letter so I took my complaint to the Financial Ombudsman as I still believed that I really had been misold. It's taken until now to claim £1700 but I got my letter today! Absolutely delighted!

Thanks to everyone on here who has helped, especially amersall, I'm not quite done yet I have another case with the Financial Ombudsman.
  • Hi

a very big thank you to this forum all the information I found here and advice too which has enabled me to successfully reclaim my PPI from Nat West. I complained about a number of aspects of the ppi that I was sold between 2000 and 2010 but the single premium payment for ppi which I took out on 3 loans which were consolidated was the area that the bank has upheld . The bank agree that the single premium was not the appropriate product for me due to the financial penalty that I incurred when I consolidated the loan. Also the bank say ' they were not sure that we considered whether you had any intention of paying off the loan early, or whether we explained the implications of doing so at the time of sale'.

So just to say if you feel wary about complaining but think you have a valid complaint do go ahead , esp. if you have paid a single premium ppi on a loan which you repaid early complaining may very well be worth your while. I was surprised and relieved that the bank have been very professional, helpful and approachable in their calls and correspondence with me so I did not find the process too difficult or as intimidating as I had imagined. Plus it was all done quite quickly (I complained in Dec and had their decision this week Jan 27 ) so I wasn't left worrying about the outcome for too long.

I am really grateful for the help I received here and hope that my story will encourage others who are have concerns about their ppi to fill in the FOS form and send it to your bank. Its definitely worth doing .
  • Hi - my husband had 2 loans with Yorkshire Bank in 2000 & 2002. I'm a hoarder but he has thrown away all his paperwork. We've done a Credit Check through MSE but it only shows from 2004 when we moved in together and he joined my mortgate. (Before he was living at home). I contacted them and put his previous address but no loans are showing. I have written to Yorkshire Bank but their reply says that a Dat Subject Access Request if £10 -is this the same as a Credit Check which shows mortgages and credit card stuff?? I don't want to pay for the same info. They have said if we're asking for copies of the loans they unable to provide them due to the time lapse. Help I don't know where to go now. Thanks
  • I was contacted ages ago by a claims management company but after thinking about it I decided to try to do it myself. I knew I had been sold ppi on loans when I was younger and had only taken ppi as I was told by the advisor that it would make my application more favourable for acceptance.

My problem was that all of my loans were taken out years ago and as they had been paid off years ago I no longer had any paperwork so I made a list of all of the banks I've had loans through.

Initially I contacted Canada Square regarding my Egg loan just stating that I had previously held a loan and believed I had been misold ppi. As I was unsure of details, I listed all of my previous addresses and my maiden name. A couple of weeks later I got letters through one saying I had ppi on my loan and asking me to complete a questionnaire and the other saying they had also found my credit card details but records showed no ppi. Anyway I completed the questionnaire. Listed all of my employment details again because I didn't know dates, but all of my employments have had full sickness benefits, death in service and redundancy packages. Lo and behold a few days later I got a letter stating my complaint had been upheld and a refund of £647 :) this then spurred me on and I contacted my other loan companies to see what happened.

When querying with Barclays whilst they were looking for my loan they located 2 overdrafts with ppi that I never knew I had and again after filling in a form and answering questions on the phone, both have been upheld and have so far received a cheque for £300 on the one and am awaiting the calculation on the second. The complaints handler told me he could see a further 3 loans with ppi but I would need to raise this as a complaint separately however the teams I am speaking to are saying they can't find any details of ppi possibly because of the age of the loans 1997, 1998 and 2001. So I am now writing to them with the loan account numbers and as much as I can remember to see if they can track them down so fingers crossed.
Anyway to cut a long story short I am now awaiting decisions on 2 loans with Lloyd's, an old HSBC loan, an MBNA loan and then the 3 potential barclay loans. (I borrowed a lot! Of money when I was younger)

Initially after reading some of the posts on here I was a bit disappointed with my refunds so far, but to be honest I'm £950 better off so far with hopefully more to come so fingers crossed, and it is well worth the few minutes spent on the phone and filling in a few forms.

They are telling you they have no info from that far back, the £10 is a request for all info they hold on you, as they have no info, save your £10 or,if you want to make sure, do the request and see what you get back

Great result -I 'm just about to embark on claiming for OD protection with Barclays backdated to 1999. £ 2.20 per month for a year and then suddenly £11.20 from 2000. I had no idea until recently that it was an insurance. It appeared as service charge. At the time it started my husband was eligible for 6 months sick pay and the company ha a good redundancy policy. I was doing part time work as kids were young. Fingers crossed for a return even half the size of yours. Any tips?

I had the same with my charge, it kept saying £6.40 service fee so I assumed it was just that, a fee for having an overdraft but in the last few months they changed it to PPI fee, I expect lots of people have cottoned on to the change.

Complete the form off their site and send ASAP! As your husband was eligible for sick pay I would say you have a strong case. I reckon your return should be quite a good sum? Its the interest they pay that's actually better than the refunded charges!

Last Tuesday I wrote to them about 2 loans I had with them 1998 and 2001 I think and they have just put £590 in my account!!

  • Wanted to thank your website for the help and encouragement it gave us to complete the necessary forms, attach relevant documentation and pass directly to Halifax Building Society our claim for MPPI. We sent the completed forms etc directly to the Halifax in November. We have today received a letter offering us £15,500! We claimed for a policy that we took with them when we took a mortgage out between 1991 and 2002. We were paying £54 a month and were told we could not have a mortgage without the policy as my husband was self-employed. We were unaware that we could have taken a policy from another company and not through the Halifax.

We thought that as it was back in early 1990's it may have proved difficult to pursue. Luckily we did still have quite a few account numbers and documents sent from Halifax when we took the mortgage out, and statements showing payments being made.

I would definitely encourage anyone to try. You may have an opportunity to get some money back and all for a bit of form filling and information digging! Get on to it now!

    Many thanks again.
