I wrote to GE Money Home Lending regarding missold PPI.

The loan was taken out via weatherseal.

The guy that sold us the loan/ppi was very pushy - he came to the house about 1.30 and didn't leave until after 8pm.

Any way I get a letter back today saying that

"as your complaint is specifically about the advice you were given, and because GE money neither sold this ppi to you, nor were they present at the point of sale, I do not feel we can investigate your complaint fully or fairly"

"We would normally recommend that you contact weatherseal window system, who sold the ppi and ask them to investigate your complaint as they would be in a better position to do so. However, they are no longer trading and in the instance you would need to identify and to contact the company administrators to make any claim"

It then goes on to say if no suitable response contact CAB or FSCS.

    So, is this true...

Are GE money correct -- surely weatherseal was just a broker in that case?
    Are they fobbing me off?
Is Weatherseal gone out of business because I can still find a website for Weatherseal.

Am I better going the the FSCS?

    Many Thanks

It is Weather seal you make the claim to, they sold you the PPI, if you took this out on or after 14th January 2005 then you make a claim to FSCS, if it was before this the you will struggle to get anywhere I am afraid.

Take a look at the website and contact them.
Weatherseal defaulted in 2010, make the claim, FSCS compensate you for the PPI.
  • Hello:wave:

    • What were you reclaiming: PPI on £680 overdraft held since 1998
    • Who was the provider: Barclays Bank
    • How much did you get back: £8k!!!!!!:j:T
    • Did you get it back after a letter or did you go to the Financial Ombudsman: Completed PPI questionnaire off Barclays website
    • And then write your brief reclaim tale
I finally got round to claiming back my PPI payment on my overdraft (£6.40 every month since 1998). I sent the questionnaire on the Tuesday, received an acknowledgement letter on the Friday, the following Friday I had £8k put into my account for PPI & interest.

This will make such a difference to my monthly outgoings, I have been able to pay off my 2 HUGE credit cards bills, H&M account bill and Next account. We are also changing our car and have a little bit left in the 'emergency' account!

I am SO glad I finally got round to doing this, now I have paid all those debts off I feel so much better and it will be nice to have some disposable income very month!

    wow that is fantastic.

I wish the Halifax would do the same. Sent questionnaire off and just off a phone call going over info... I never mentioned on the form who my employer was (recruitment agency that later lost the contract) but the person on the phone let that slip - so they had the records from 2002.

    Feeling a little interrogated.
  • Hi there,

I'm new to the forum, just wanted to share my success... I took an Abbey Loan in the year 2000 and recently claimed my PPI back from Santander. I wrote one letter and was requested to complete the standard questionnaire.

Within 2 weeks of my initial letter I received an offer, which I accepted of £2,500... My PPI payments plus interest!! I'm so chuffed and the money was in my account within 3 days of sending back the acceptance letter.

I never thought I would have success so quickly.

I'm now claiming PPI back from ACF Car finance which has already proven difficult and a longer process but I won't give up!!

Great result -I 'm just about to embark on claiming for OD protection with Barclays backdated to 1999. £ 2.20 per month for a year and then suddenly £11.20 from 2000. I had no idea until recently that it was an insurance. It appeared as service charge. At the time it started my husband was eligible for 6 months sick pay and the company ha a good redundancy policy. I was doing part time work as kids were young. Fingers crossed for a return even half the size of yours. Any tips?
