  • even though the FSA have said they are still investigating is that the end of my claim simply because they have rejected it?
No, your complaint will now go to an Ombudsman for final adjudication. It can go either way (and will take several months regardless).

Thanks for that, the letter from the Ombudsman didn't make it that clear.

Had a loan with Mercantile Credit Liverpool owned by Barclays in 1990s so I sent questionnaire off to Barclays in Canary Wharf but of course they could not find me as I no longer had the account no.

Read in a thread here that if I wrote to

    Barclays Assurance
    Policy Administration Department
    PO Box 12146
    Dublin 2,
    Ireland

they would provide me with a copy of my PPI and they did. Have sent this to Canary Wharf and they have acknowledged this and are looking into it.

6 weeks later with no reply. I do not know IF I am sending my complaint to the right address as I have read elsewhere that complaints should be sent to Barclays Marine Finance.

still nothing back from Barclays. I ring them every week and they tell me I am in a queue and it is with the people who make a decision on it so at least I am in the right place. 5 months on now and nothing back yet.

I have a friend who was turned down for PPI by Halifax and she went to the Ombudsman who ruled in her favour giving Halifax until 16/04/13 to pay out. 6 months later and still no response. Can a firm keep defying an Ombudsman ruling.

Has anyone else been shafted this way?

2 other friends have been turned down by Nationwide and it seems Building Societies/banks are harder to get money out of.

Halifax friend texted me to-day to confirm she had received a cheque for £7600 so her perseverance paid off with the Ombudsman. It took a year to get this resolved.
  • Help Lovely MSE People!!

Ive just received a low offer of £115.80 from Capital One on an account I opened in Sept 2004.

Im not sure what the calculation is to work this out but I am right in thinking this is low?

Do they always start with a low offer?

Not sure what to do next....any advice would be great

    Sx

You only get a refund of what you actually paid (plus interest). There is no "first" offer, the redress is defined.
If it's a "low" amount then you only paid a low amount in the first place.

If you have evidence that you paid more then you can contest the amount.
  • Thank you for such a prompt reply :)

I averaged £85 a year for 9 years which is £765. I dont have evidence of this as I have online statements and looking on the website they only go back 12 month :(

Do I have a chance of getting more of my money back without evidence?

Of course not, otherwise you could just say you paid any random amount and the Bank would pay.

You'll only get back what the records show your paid, not what you estimate you paid on "average".

Without comprehensive documentation disproving the Bank's records, all you can do is accept the offer as you will get no more.

did my weekly phone call to Barclays yesterday and gave them my complaint reference number as I had done on previous occasions. They asked me 3 security questions to confirm who I was.
    1. DOB
    2. Who else lived at the house with me.
    3. they then proceeded to ask me the Mastermind question.
According to my Equifax report I had a loan in October 2008 and could I tell them who it was with?

Of course I had no Equifax report to-hand so failed their security question. I then went and retrieved the Equifax report and rang back and got to the same question. They gave me a choice of 4 firms to choose from, They must have been looking at a different Equifax report as these four were not on my Equifax report. I failed their security question again.

I have since written them a letter asking if I have been successful or unsuccessful in my application. They now seem to be fobbing me off.

Has anyone else had this problem with Barclays? Is this a stalling tactic employed by them?
  • hi can you give me any tips on how you claimed and what year was your policy taken out
