PPI Reclaiming successes and failures

If you had a credit card with PPI it would have shown on every statement with an outsdtanding balance as a separate charge, so you wouldn't have been unsure you had it, you just might not have noticed it.Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi0

Morning all thought i would share my success with you all since I have just heard on my last case.
Last September I was sorting out some paperwork and came across a old loan agreement and noticed it had PPI on, up to this point I didn't think me or my husband took PPI out so went through rest of the stuff and found 1 loan 4 credit cards and a store card.
So after reading around on this site and others I posted of my questionnaires off not holding my breath.
within 2 months RBS wrote about the loan and up held just short of 3K
then up held my CC just short of 2K.
Barclays took forever to say no so sent to the FOS in Feb 2013 for the Barclaycards and old EGG.
In June FOS wrote saying they believe Barclays should up hold my old EGG and Barclays wanted more evidence of employment status (husband is a company Director) so we sent that off and waited, in the meantime FOS wrote to us about our Barclays CC saying they was going to make us a offer, which they did however they offered us £97 unlucky for them I had CC statements so sent off copies and still waiting for a new offer.
2 weeks ago I rang Barclays to see where there new offer was only to be told its in a long que waitingso I thought I would ask about my old EGG case see where they were with that and he said oh we have just sent a offer today then he said for just over 10K  I nearly fell of my chair, this was the only one I didn't have any paper work for so didn't have a clue how much or how long we were paying for.
Then this Saturday FOS wrote up holding my Halifax
so out of all my claims this is the result.
RBS loan up held 3K
RBS CC up held 2K
EGG CC up held 10K
Barclays CC waiting for offer
Halifax CC waiting for offer
House of fraser up held £297
DFS no joy
So not bad to say that we thought we didn't have PPI and all the claims were pre 2000 so advice to everyone don't give up if the banks say no try the FOS.
I have received some very good advise from this site (even stroppy advise at times) but would like to thank everyone for your help xxx0 -

I applied for a missold ppi from a nationwide loan from 1997. They rejected it saying that no ppi was taken out and the reason so much was paid back was due to the interest of 14%. I remember being told at the time that I would not be given the loan without taking out insurance. Is there anyway to query their response ?0

If you're not happy with their decision, you can forward your complaint to the FOS.Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi0

Do you have the credit agreement ?
If not you may have a job on your hands at least they agree that you had a loan.
My OH was told sorry we have never dealt with you even though they paid up for another complaint . The FOS have been very unhelpful in this.
It may be of some use to send for a SAR that is what OH should have done initially . Good Luck.Light travels faster than sound.

I wanted to share this with everyone who has thought about complaining but hasn't done so yet.
At the beginning of September, i was clearing out old paperwork and found a hand written loan application form that the bank filled in for me. This had loanguard insurance added, 89.00 per month was the fee!
The next bit of paper work was a letter dated september 2009 which was a reply to my letter asking them to cancel the loan guard.
I then started thinking.....
We got married 18 years ago, and we took out a loan to pay for the wedding. Since then we have been repaying and refinancing the same loan. We had 4 credit cards with.
Natwest No PPI
RBS
capital one
halifax No PPI
I took out yet another loan with M & S to buy a car, then we refinanced that to get another car.
I decided to send a letter to each of these companies where we were paying the insurance, just to see what would happen., not really holding out much hope to be honest with you. DO THIS YOURSELF AS THE PPI RECLAIM COMPANIES ARE PANTS!!!
I got contacted by RBS and By Marks and Spencer's to ask further questions, the last call was just last Monday!
i had letter back from Capital One and from RBS, the credit card ones, both letters said they didnt agree with my complaint etc, sending me the copy of the application form that i filled in.
ok, fine, i will let those go as they wont be much money anyways.
On 1st November (our wedding Anniversary :-)) i received a letter from M & S saying that they were upholding my complaint and offered me £4858.88 which was based on the mis selling on 2 loans.
My god, what a shock to see that, really really good news.
TODAY!!!
I received a letter from ROYAL BANK OF SCOTLAND sorry 3 letters, here is what i got
Letter 1 - £3354.27 , wow really good again!
letter 2 - £4191.39, my heart starts getting faster!!
Letter 3 - £5577.02 now i am really trembling!!!
In total just shy of £18000!!!!
They asked me how i felt about my complaint, and i said the worst thing was not knowing how much extra i was paying for something i would never have needed.
I have never been unemployed and have always had work based sickness plans.
My point is - if you don't try to claim then you will receive nothing at all. It probably took me a couple of hours worth of researching who to send to etc. use this website and get your fingers out. For the cost of a couple of stamps??? Get on to it!!
Now i just need to wait for the money!!!! I think i may even take the wife on a honeymoon that we never actually had!!!!0 -
Hi All,
Just wanted to help those who might need that extra push of confidence with reclaiming miss-sold PPI or anything for that matter!
Hope this gives you the confidence, will & strength to try!
I sent the template letter out to Lloyd's TSB last year to originally reclaim bank charges, asking for copies of my husbands sole bank accounts & our joint account statements, backdated for the last 6 years.
I received these promptly but then heard about reclaiming miss-sold PPI on loans, so I wrote asking them for details of the PPI that was sold on any loans my husband had had, stating that we believed that they were miss-sold by the loan arranger (quoting her full name) and that he was used as a 'Revolver case' which was very common when miss-selling was at its height; loan after loan being rolled over & over & new PPI policies were added to each one, when I believe a refund of the previous PPI policy should have been given each time? (I think, please correct me if I'm wrong)
This was literally all I said not wanting to play all my cards at once. They responded quickly with a very prying letter asking us to detail all our complaints & they wanted a response in 5 days, which I felt was an unrealistic & unfair time limit & was pressurising. This really annoyed me so my response was 'No, sorry the case is far too complex to resond to in 5 days & due to the case's complexity we are seeking further professional advice on the matter'
They then obviously did their own homework & a month later we recieved a detailed letter stating that they agreed miss-selling had occurred & they detailed all the PPI that they had calculated was due for refund plus 8%.
It came to... £17,600.
In the letter it stated that we had 28 days to consider their offer, but strangely the very next day we received 5 letters with each individual cheque inside? Which is a little underhand really 'cause who in their right mind is going to send those cheques back? They should have given us the 28 days to consider as they had said previously.
We were obviously blown away with this result especially as we hadn't even had to do anything really, I wrote two brief, well worded letters. We never dreamt it would ever be this much money!
The bank did all the work for us, they were obviously running scared; not knowing who we were seeking help from paid off, it could have been Watch dog TV for all they knew?
All the time it was our beloved Martin, our money guru!
Cheers mate for all your help, couldn't have done it without you!

In addition, no one needs to have the name of the member of staff who (mis-sold) the PPI, just valid complaint reasons.
Do note that you could have returned the cheques if the amount(s) in question were not acceptable.
Regardless of all this, well done on your success.0 -
