If you bought by post with no advisor present [in any sense] then you miss bought, it wasn't missold. I htink your chances are extrememly slim, but I have been proved wrong before......

I would like to thank this site for giving myself and my wife the confidence to apply us for ppi reclaims and to thank the site for the resources it has provided. Using this site we have managed to reclaim £10,000 in total so far on PPI claims. I have still two outstanding claims both of which are Bank of Scotland/Lloyds Banking Group. These have been forwarded to the Omnis bun.

This was certainly beyond my wildest dreams that I could reclaim this amount successfully at the outset. I hear you say "oh Yeah". Well that was my reaction in November 2012 reading this forum. However I thought I’ll give it a go .The majority of the claims I did not even have an account number. To date we have had ppi amounts of £7200, £430, £1500 and £725. So how was this achieved?

By Reading this forum. USE the SAR form Template to start it off. The SAR is the key. You will get account information back from from printed statements etc. We had a large box of printed statements going back to 2000 for my current account, some organisations do this and some don’t. Okay it costs £10 per organisation but my total outlay has been £30 plus some stamps and two days working it all out one weekend.

And heres the other really interesting point - the majority of these claims related to loans between 2000 to 2005. So don’t be put off by "we only consider loans from mid 2005 ish" .

Another important point - some organisations do not co-ordinate the PPI claim department with their business areas. So you will receive documentation direct from a business area where the PPI claims department has no knowledge of what has been sent. So you have the documents, the account numbers and now submit the PPI claim form on the company websites to the PPI claims department. So don’t be put off. I’ve gained to date £10, 000, this is no fake story. I’m not finished claiming yet - the story will be going on. For now I did need to share this with you all and give you the confidence to see what can be very easily achieved. Remember your only claiming back what is rightfully yours.

    Well done on your successes.

However, one point. Some companies are only regulated post January 2005, hence 'we only consider...after 2005'

Hi everyone, I'm new to the forums so please be gentle ;)!
I complained about PPI mis-selling from 1996 to RBS by phone in May 2013.
I'd added up all my old statements and worked out that the total I'd paid to the policy was £2471.60 from 1996 to 2007.
They went through a couple of questions about what I could remember and promised to get back to me. I've subsequently had one phone call from them on 6 June to ask a couple more questions about my employment status at the time (I was employed at the time of taking the policy but became self-employed a couple of years later).
I've received my reply today (which included a copy of the original agreement and a couple of copies of statements). They are stating that as I had applied for the credit card via a mailshot, the PPI was not mis-sold as the policy was non-advised and I had ticked the Payment Protection box on the application form. It was my responsibility to assess the policy as per my needs and determine whether it was suitable for me at the time of sale of in the future. Furthermore I would have been provided with sufficient information at the time of my application to make an informed decision. I also took out a card protection plan with them at the same time on the same application form.
From looking at the application form, the Payment Protection section says "Payment Protection is designed to protect your RBS Advanta Visa Card payments in the event of death, accident, sickness or involuntary unemployment (including redundancy). We strongly recommend that you take out this cover. For cover just tick this box."
As it doesn't state anywhere the potential cost of this policy, do I have a case to take further? I intend to write to the Ombudsman but I'd appreciate the thoughts of forum users.

If you had a good sick package from work and could pay this card should the worst happen, maybe savings and life insurance, write back and reject the reason they gave for mis sell, tell them you had no need of this.

Well done all who succeeded in getting their money back. :) On reading these threads I have a lot more confidence in my claim.

RBS mailed me a PPI reclaim form which I filled out and posted off last week for my loans between 2003 and 2010, possibly even my current loan. It is the same loan as in those previous ones it has just been refinanced with other debts consolidated within it at one point.

I had assumed that RBS were mailing all those who took out PPI until I read this on their website:

"Will all customers who had PPI receive a letter?:
No. We will write to customers where we and the FSA agree there is a material risk that our sales process was not followed correctly."

Not sure if true or not but nothing ventured nothing gained I guess! I never wrote to them before because I was sure it was to late to try! But they even provided the account numbers and dates of all the relevent accounts I had from 2003 onwards!

My most recent loan from 2010 when it was refinanced (to lower my interest rate) was a messy one... The guy basically scammed me into accepting the PPI on the promise of a much cheaper deal within the month. Having signed off all the paperwork, he vanished after that without a trace (I'm pretty sure he was sacked)...

This was before the PPI scandal came about, I wrote a letter of complaint to my bank who refunded me £40 (I only paid one month into the loan at this point) and removed most of the PPI from my loan balance. Due to it being after a month from starting the loan I couldn't get rid of it all.

Still other loans have not been dealt with so even if I can't get anything after my current loan was kinda resolved I have the other ones to resolve too! I'll let you know how I get on!

I recently took up the challenge of claiming my PPI back from a Natwest Loan and within the space of a week of sending out an email and letter to Natwest I have received a refund of over £2,000.

I thank Martin Lewis and his team for this advice, I followed his template letter to the bone and although I didn't get any compensation (as I know it would have dragged on a bit longer), I certainly got back every penny I have been paying for over the last 4 years or so. I have to say Natwest were really professional in the whole matter.
