PPI Reclaiming successes and failures

I never applied for my Barclaycard, I was at a cashier in Barclays, when I was told to sign for my card, which I assumed was a new debit card, but 2 weeks later a Barclaycard arrived. PPI was automatically added to this, and I never knew what it was, assumed it was a normal charge. In July 2010 a financial advisor told me what it was and that it was an optional policy. I canceled it straight away. I compained about being miss sold this PPI, but was rejected by Barclaycard. I sent it to FOS Last July, it is still waiting to be assessed, just wondered what people thought my chances of the claim being upheld were, I had the PPI for 8 years. Anyone else has a similar case that was successful?0

I made a claim from Natwest near enough a year cago to this day. I think I got just over £1,200 back and it was all handled pretty easily. It was all settled with a letter and I have no complaints about natwest from now on. I believe I could of even got compensation if I forced it but I was happy just to get my money back0

If they accepted they miss sold you should of got more than what you paid.
They should pay the installments plus any related charges and costs du to the payments then add interest.
If they just refunded the amounts paid then it's likely they did this as gesture of good will.0 -
I am hoping you can clarify some information for me. My mum took out a loan under the credit agreement consumer credit Act 1974 which included an optional loan repayment insurance premium, which my understanding is the same as PPI, is this correct thinking. I have on her behalf sent a completed questionnaire to Lloyds in November 2012. They sent a letter to say PPI was not sold even though we had got the original credit agreement. Lloyds then said they would close within 28 days unless heard anything, so I wrote to say do not close and we required further information to why, to date this is still outstanding, but it does not look very hopefully.
I hear about all the refunds people are receiving, which is great and a lot do not even have the paperwork, so where have we gone wrong or it is time to go to the Ombudsmen or is Optional Loan repayment nothing to do with PPI?0 -
Put my claim in for refund of PPI against MBNA about 5 months ago. FOS upheld my claim and notified MBNA of their decision. Got a letter off MBNA today saying they will pay me just over £16,000.
If you think you have a claim then do not give up and pursue it all the way."Nil Sine Labore" - Nothing Without Labour0 -

hi. i'm in same boat as you are. got credit card in late 1990's ,told that i couldnt have credit card if i didnt have the ppi. wasnt told it was optional.
barclaycard trying every route in the book to reject claim, and not pay out, fos gone in my favour twice now, so it back in barclaycards court, either make offer or go to ombudsman.0 -

You won't know for sure for a year or more...
I know I'm in for a long wait but I was definately mis-sold. Original loan in 1994 was taken out with ex-husband, he was a serving member in the RAF and I was and still am a Civil Servant. For this loan I received a copy of the application form (declaring above) and credit agreement.
When we divorced he paid half the loan off in 1996 and this was the start of my consolidation chain of 8 loans because I was in financial difficulties trying to pay a mortgage and a loan as well as nursery fees so that I could work whilst bringing our 2 sons up on my own.
For the loan in 1996 I have the payment schedule but page 1 is missing and for the 1997 loan I have the credit agreement.
I also made a sickness claim on the PPI and was refused due to pre-existing medical condition and in addition to these reasons it was single premium PPI.
I accept they don't have all the information to calculate refund of premiums plus interest however I feel they should at least have offered a goodwill gesture. If you don't ask you don't get and they can only say yes or no.0 -
Success, just received a cheque regarding my loan with Sainsburys Bank, dating back to 90s!!! I had to do a SAR and was lucky enough to get all the information I needed to get my claim processed. Result, a cheque for £7800k:beer:.

Referred 2 claims to the FOS in January 2012, one with Barclaycard one with MBNA. FOS found in my favour on both in December 2012, MBNA did not contest and agreed with FOS decision. Confirmed in writing in mid Jan that they would work out refund due, letter received 5th March confirming amount to be refunded of £580.79 after tax, cheque was waiting when I got home last night. Thanks MBNA.
Barclaycard did not agree with the FOS and provided additional information - which is just terms of the PPI and a copy of the Association of British Insurers rules/regulations - but I have provided full info (copy contract of emplolyments, details of critical illness cover etc. etc.) so am hoping that when the FOS review it again they still find in my favour. The claim for the Barclaycard goes back to 1996....Spoke to the FOS last week and it was still in the "queue" - am just hoping it's not another 12 months...0 -
