  • im so happy!!! I recieved a letter in january from firstplus regarding a possible ppi claim. I totally forgot I had a loan with them in 2005 and paid it off in 2007. I filled the online questionnaire and last week recieved a letter stating I will be sent 3 cheques totalling £14k!!!!!!

What a total suprise. And im in a debt management with payplan aswell and never thought I would ever be entitled to anything.
  • Claim : Loan PPI
    Provider: RBS
    Offer: Over £12,000
    No letters, or Ombudsman.
1st of Feb 2013, I read MSE Reclaiming Getting Easier, I used the freephone number for RBS, they told me I had 11 different claims for PPI. On Saturday 9th Feb. they sent me an offer for over £12,000. They went back as far as 1995, RBS gave me all the information. RBS said I had paid £9000 the rest was interest & Tax taken out. I had no idea. I was going to use No win no fee until I read Reclaiming Getting Easier One 5Mins phone call is all I did. I Love MSE
  • Hi, I have had ppi since 2000 and have complained. Mbna said no so I took it to the financial ombudsman and they upheld it because it hadn't been explained properly to me. Mbna wants further information from the financial ombudsman. What does this mean and how long could it take? Thanks

The FOS will let you know what MBNA require from you, it will take as long as it takes I am afraid.

:money:Notified of repayment in Sept. 2012 by Egg Plc (now Canada Square Operations). Since then no repayment, no replies to letters seeking help and no 'phone numbers to call. FSA say they will investigate complaints from all sources so advise all complainants to request FSA to investigate Canada Sq. Ops. to enable FSA to build up a picture.
  • Hello

New to this forum so apologies for the name (needed something I'd remember!) but interested in the below post.

I'm in pretty much the same situation with MBNA, in the early to mid 2000's had a number of loans, first one without PPI following on from which I took out a number of top up loans (3 I have records of but think there may be 1 or 2 more - have sent off a SAR request), on all of them I was told PPI was conditional in order to secure the loan...

    Hi all,

I have had numerous loans from the halifax over the years, for varying amounts, and until i found this website some 5yrs ago, had always had PPI added, because I had been told it was compulsary in order to get the loan, which I now know is a classic mis-selling tactic.

initially they denied mis-selling on this loan, even though they had paid out on every other one of the loans I had with them, so quick letter to the financial ombudsman, and 3 weeks later got a reply that Halifax would like to settle my complaint as a "goodwill gesture"

My concern is that reading other posts on MSE it seems this is a weak argument unlikely to be upheld by the bank or FOS. You say above that you wrote to the FOS, slightly jumping the gun here (MBNA might uphold the complaints) but when you wrote to the FOS was your main complaint that you were told it was compulsory, did they ask you for proof and if so what did you provide them with?

I can show that I didn't / don't have PPI on any unsecured credit post these loans, and that where I was told it was compulsory (by my mortgage provider) but advised I didn't have to take a policy from them I found a more suitable and cost effective product myself.

Thanks in advance for your advice.

Is it MBNA being awkward or is it normal? Is the finial ombudsman's recommendation usually accepted? Thanks

It depends what info MBNA require, when they ask you for the extra info, if they look and decide they did not mis sell, FOS may agree with them or you depending on extra info they need.
  • I am a full time nurse. I've been paying PPI on all my loans held with HSBC since i graduated from University plus my credit card too and i was unaware of this.
I only found out after receiving cold calls from PPI claims companies for nearly a year, and wondered why they kept calling. i didn't have any of the paperwork as these loans are now paid off, but i read this site an made an inquiry with the bank and lodged a complaint!

Exciting news received today and HSBC have upheld my complaint and proposed to return £7,038.25!!:j which they state will effectively return the protection premiums with an element of gross interest.

My question is without the paperwork how do i know if this reflects the actual amount i paid? what would happen if i took it to the ombudsmen?
and what does it mean when it says... subject to your personal tax status this may be taxable? will i have to pay tax on this??

I'm not in anyway trying to be greedy..just curious ...i'm highly likely to accept this offer as i've struggled finacnially for a long time and it will help pay off a good proportion of my current debt and pay for a long overdue holiday!!!
  • We moved in 2004 and when we took out a Halifax mortgage we were told it was approved on the condition we took their TMPP (total mortgage protection policy). We already had insurance in place but we had to cancel this and take the TMPP policy.
Having read your website we followed the link and downloaded the reclaim form. Someone called and asked a few questions and said we would hear within a couple of weeks.
We hoped that we might get a few thousand pounds back- imagine our delight when an offer letter arrived offering us a full refund with interest totalling over £26,000. Cheque arrived a few days later and we now have more affordable and appropriate insurance in place.
    Thanks Martin!
