This only applies to online applications, I'm afraid. No bank ever pre-populated a box on a paper form.

It's also unwise to compare the success of one complaint with another's failure. The results can vary widely even if they are both from the same lender. Since Banks never actually reveal the reasons they uphold, many complainants (wrongly) assume that their complaint was upheld based on the reasons they gave. Banks often find faults or process failure completely different to those actually complained about.
It's also possible for a complaint to be upheld with no investigation if the amount involved is below the floor limit or during very busy periods.

I can promise you that no longer being a customer has no bearing on the success or failure of your complaint.

You'll now wait for a year or more (if you take it to FOS).

Called today to check progress. Complaint acknowledged 17 dec. spoken to them twice since. Today told no trace of my complaint and couldn't speak to me as could be under my husbands name. Joint account joint claim and letter sent to both of us acknowledging receipt. Totally stumped!

I have now made 2 successful PPI claims after following Martin's advice.

I made the claims myself using Martin's PPI claim form from this site which took about 15 minutes each to fill in.

My first claim was for PPI on a loan with Northern Rock.

The other was for the PPI on a First Plus homeowner loan.

From Northern Rock I successfully won back £8000, from a loan I had around 2007.

From First Plus I successfully won back £17000 for a 'front loaded' PPI on a loan dating back to 2006.

Due to myself and husbands type of employment we should have never been sold PPI at any point, and should have been told that we did not need it.

I was absolutely flabbergasted at how much First Plus had charged us for PPI, which we did not need when we got our award letter from them, it was obscene.

On both cases neither company argued our complaint, in fact First Plus settled quicker than Northern Rock, 8 weeks Northern Rock, First Plus was just 5 weeks.

Thanks to 30 minutes work and the cost of mailing the letters I have been reimbursed the cost of miss sold products that I never wanted or even needed.

As a result I am now £25,000 better off.:D

One thing to note is don't bother using these PPI companies that charge you around 30% of your claim if you are successful.

Do it yourself it's easy, even if you no longer have your paperwork from your loan company etc. If you don't have it phone up the company concerned, they will.

Rabbit would do better! Spoke to call centre in India who said they have 14 weeks !!!!!!! But confirmed complaint on screen. No response from email yet other than they are looking into it.
