PPI Reclaiming successes and failures

I have now made 2 successful PPI claims after following Martin's advice.
I made the claims myself using Martin's PPI claim form from this site which took about 15 minutes each to fill in.
My first claim was for PPI on a loan with Northern Rock.
The other was for the PPI on a First Plus homeowner loan.
From Northern Rock I successfully won back £8000, from a loan I had around 2007.
From First Plus I successfully won back £17000 for a 'front loaded' PPI on a loan dating back to 2006.
Due to myself and husbands type of employment we should have never been sold PPI at any point, and should have been told that we did not need it.
I was absolutely flabbergasted at how much First Plus had charged us for PPI, which we did not need when we got our award letter from them, it was obscene.
On both cases neither company argued our complaint, in fact First Plus settled quicker than Northern Rock, 8 weeks Northern Rock, First Plus was just 5 weeks.
Thanks to 30 minutes work and the cost of mailing the letters I have been reimbursed the cost of miss sold products that I never wanted or even needed.
As a result I am now £25,000 better off.:D
One thing to note is don't bother using these PPI companies that charge you around 30% of your claim if you are successful.
Do it yourself it's easy, even if you no longer have your paperwork from your loan company etc. If you don't have it phone up the company concerned, they will.
:T
Well done! :T
Can i just ask how you claimed with northern rock?
I had a loan & mortgage with them but when i try to find email details for them it transfers me to virgin.
I want to ask them for my agreements.0 -

:j:jGood news today i rang Genworth & have been told that a letter has been sent out with offer. This was with FOS as Santander did not uphold. Has been with them since April 12. FOS went for the underwriters and finally this is the outcome. I still have 3 other claims with FOS ,Capital One which has gone to assessor as FOS said Capital One had to pay me but they opposed it so i think in for a long wait. The other 2 are Marbles cc & Monument as yet FOS have not got info back from either company. So will have to wait a while yet i reckon. Anyway Good Luck to all in same situ.:j0

After reading the how to guide for PPI I wrote to all of my credit providers including bank to ask them to review my accounts.
Six weeks later I received a settlement letter for £10,000 to uphold my complaint, however, there were a number of accounts where they felt unable to do anything with and would therefore not accept accountability. I was amazed at the result and very happy with the result. This was back in June of last year (2012).
Imagine when my surprise when I get home today, and there is a letter waiting from First Direct. They have just done a further review and have overturned their decision of non-accountability and upheld my complaint. I know have a credit of £9,900 heading towards my bank account.
I am absolutely flabbergasted and delighted!! :T

What a lovely start to the weekend. I have a claim in with First Direct. What reason did they give for firstly refusing and then changing their mind?0 -
Back in 2003 I had a credit card with capital one, on the application I ticked that I did not want PPI. Two years later, when activating my new card, I told the sales person, I did not want PPI.
October 2011, I claimed a mis sell to CO, who said they would not refund the PPI, because I had said in the call I wanted it.
I asked them for a recording of the call, they sent me a paper script! I wrote back and said that does not prove that I agreed and sent my claim to the FO.
Today, 8 months later, they (ombudsman) are not upholding my complaint because they say I was employed, aged 41 and will not consider the original application in their assessment, (despite it being ticked no)they made their decision against the call in 2005. They do not have a recording of the call, but have a script, they also say that it didn't cost a lot anyway. I am flabbergasted.....
What do I do next?????
I spoke to the FO, who said, they have the script, and therefore will not uphold, my response was, that it not proof that I agreed, their response...it doesn't prove you didn't either!!
I thought that it was a fair system, not any more!!
Surely, my tick to say no, no recording of the call and the fact that I am and have been for 12 years a civil servant surely to god says that this was applied inappropriately, does no one use the balance of probability? Can someone please advise???:mad:IF HIND SIGHT WAS FORESIGHT WOULD I STILL NEED TO GO TO THE OPTICIANS???0 -
There's nothing left for you to do. The onus was on you to show the balance of probability was that you didn't agree. The balance wasn't there, so the FOS didn't uphold.Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi0

Having had a read around on here following a gentle nudging from my better half I looked out the details on an egg loan and subsequent topups from 2003 and 2004 for £9000 and £15000.
Having sent off a covering letter and the FoS quesionnairre just over a fortnight ago to Canada Square Operations I have this morning received both the acknowledgement of my complaint and in a separate letter notification of an upheld claim and an offer for £6300 by cheque which I expect to receive in the next couple of months.
Pretty amazed with the fast response and a bit shocked at it all considering the fact that I was not even going to do this till I read your site as I had not even realised I had PPI till this encouraged me to dig out some of the old paperwork.
A definite success!0 -
Hi all,
I have had numerous loans from the halifax over the years, for varying amounts, and until i found this website some 5yrs ago, had always had PPI added, because I had been told it was compulsary in order to get the loan, which I now know is a classic mis-selling tactic.
Well in total to date I have had £6000 returned to me in premiums paid plus interest, I had written to the halifax complaining about the loans that I could remember having, and still had paperwork for, turns out I had one loan in 1998, which halifax told me about even providing me with an agreement no, that I had no paperwork for and had completly forgotten about, initially they denied mis-selling on this loan, even though they had paid out on every other one of the loans I had with them, so quick letter to the financial ombudsman, and 3 weeks later got a reply that Halifax would like to settle my complaint as a "goodwill gesture", so now waiting for letter from Halifax to say how much I will be getting, I have no idea how much the loan was for or what the PPI premiums wer, but whatever it was it will have 15yrs compound interest @ 8% added to it !!! result !!I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards. - What were you reclaiming: 10 bank loans
- Who was the provider: Lloyds TSB
- How much did you get back: £11, 300
- Did you get it back after a letter or did you go to the Financial Ombudsman: One phone call in September 2012
- And then write your brief reclaim tale: I rang the Lloyds TSB PPI helpline and I received an offer letter yesterday! Happy is an understatement, this is life changing for me! Sooooo happy!!!:j:T
Would encourage everyone to give it a go, this means I will be debt free (apart from my mortgage) and one phone call has changed my future for the better!
Thank you to everyone who has posted on this forum, I have been reading it for the last few months and encouraged by all the stories, thank you MSE!!!
