    What were you reclaiming: PPI
    Who was the provider: Barclaycard
How much did you get back: Unknown
Did you get it back after a letter or did you go to the Financial Ombudsman: Financial Ombudsman Service

    Hello,

Can someone please give me advice on the above matter that has been hanging around for a few months now.

On the 7th November 2012 I received a letter from the Financial Ombudsman saying that Barclaycard had agreed to make an offer on one of my claims with them. I signed the enclosed settlement form (not knowing what the settlement figure was) and returned it to the Financial Ombudsman. Should I have waited to sign this settlement form? In the letter it also stated that Barclaycard would be writing to me with the precise terms of it's proposed settlement. When I received this letter I phoned Barclaycard to find out when this documentation would be arriving. After a few frustrated games of 'run around' with the telephone operator I was told to contact the Finical Ombudsman about it! I was told quite blatantly it was to early in the day to be asking such questions to Barclaycard. Typical.

Well, it's been nearly 12 weeks since I received the letter and not a dicky bird from Barclaycard as to how much they are going to offer.

Can anyone offer advice on how to jeer them up a bit?

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi electribem

I have the same thing going on with Barclays although I have only been waiting for 5 week, but, I have received a survey monkey from the ombudsman to fill in re this case which I thought they only sent out when case closed so this has gone back as not yet resolved and I have also e-mailed the PPI Team at the Ombudsman to make them aware and stop them closing the case, I wait to see what reply I get.

I made a complaint to Citi Cards for miss sold card repayment insurance back in May 2012. They sent me a form to fill which I returned to them straight away.

I have received today in the post a copy of a letter they said they had sent dated 28th June 2012 offering me a settlement figure.

Its taken 7 months to send me a copy. Can anyone tell me if this is normal practice.

You are so lucky to have got a reply from them and a upheld claim !

Further to my quote could you tell us the date you took out your
    card ?

I do hope they play fair to you and that you do get your payout .

Citi cards seem to be the most toughest to deal with .

  • For some reason I thought it would be too much hastle to claim back ppi.....until i kept getting sent e-mails etc. Then logged on to Martins web site and used the letter templates....

Bit of background, had loans from HSBC, Barclays, two credit cards Barclaycard & Santander back in 2003. Decided to write using the template letters on here to all of them in October 2012.

Within 2 weeks had an offer of £2000 from Santander which was paid into my bank 3 weeks later. HSBC wrote to me to say they were investigating, had an offer of £6000 and it was paid into my account on Christmas Eve...just over 8 weeks from original claim:)

Barclays and Barclaycard did not uphold my claim saying the advisor gave all correct info and I accepted which is rubbish, so have sent all details to Ombudsman to deal with.....Ombudsman have written and e-mailed to say they are looking into so now its just a waiting game.......

I would say to everyone never give up....the banks have been robbing us for years....I was in so much debt but managed to pay it all off.....now they owe me.....and everyone else.....good luck and Martin thank you......
  • I used to work for LLoyds Bank (before it became a Lloyds TSB) and knew that when you repaid a loan early you were normally entitled to some of your loan insurance back if you'd only had the loan for a couple of years. Some branches gave refunds automatically but others would only refund if you asked for it.

When I married my husband I found out he had regularly rolled one loan at LLoyds into a new loan and taken out more insurance but never received any refund of insurance. I managed to reclaim several hundred pounds by writing to the bank detailing the couple of accounts he had statements on.

He was made redundant 12 years ago and went to the bank to see if they would contribute to his outstanding loan of approx £10,000. They said 'NO' even though he had been paying insurance for years. He used all of his generous redundancy to clear the loan.

After reading your web updates I suggested that we try to reclaim PPI as he'd always been told that he had to take out the insurance otherwise he wouldn't be able to have the loans, but wasn't able to claim on it.

We printed the forms off the LLoyds website and contacted his branch to ask for the historic loan numbers going back approx 18 years. After a couple of phone calls from LLoyds asking for any further details we had (we had nothing further to add) we received cheques in the post totalling approx £4792. It took about 3 months from start to finish but it was great to get something back. Some of this was 8% interest and speculative payments as they didn't hold details of the original loan amounts or insurance paid.

If you believe you've been mis-sold insurance it's worth trying to make a claim.

I wasn't sure if it qualified as PPI as it was on an overdraft not any sort of loan but I tried and succeeded :)

I always had a bit of an overdraft but when I split with my ex husband fortunately RBS extended it.

As I lived 35 miles from my bank this was done over the phone.

After reading up on the PPI situation on here I checked my bank statements. It appears that at the time my overdraft was extended I also started getting a 'charge' on my statement. Looking into it further it was Loanguard cover.

I didn't actually realise at the time what this was for and assumed it was part of the overdraft charges. I was at the time and still am self employed, so looking at it now the cover was basically useless. I feel a bit of a twit now, as at the time I could tell you within a fiver how much was in my bank account.

I fiddled about for a few months trying to get my very old pc to print the forms properly but finally found a link on this site to a telephone claims line. As I had all the info ready I rang them on Dec 2nd and got an offer in the post yesterday.

I was delighted, as on a monthly charge of c£12 over 9 years totalling £1168, I have had an offer which includes £1680 compound interest and £728 gross interest less tax £145.

This will pay off my overdraft which is still running and also a Credit Card. I still have just over £7k outstanding on Credit Cards/Loan but it is a huge chunk and reduces my monthly outgoings by about £90 a month of which I will put some towards reducing my other debts.

If you are thinking of making a claim take the time and try - it could be well worth it.

I'd like to thanks Martin and all of you who spend your time helping others on here.

    Good Luck
  • Need a bit of help. I made a complaint to my Halifax credit card account which I took out in 2004 as I have been paying ppi on it. I was self employed at the time I took out the card. They have wrote back to me yesterday saying that they have not found enough evidence to agree that I was mis sold the ppi. In their suitability investigation they said 'you were affected to some extent by the unemployment cover conditions of your ppi policy. However, the extent of the effect meant that there was no impact on the suitability of your ppi policy because of your identified needs for the remaining policy benefits'. I still believe this has been mis sold to me so should I re-write to them or go straight to the FOS?

If you had no need of the other cover that this PPI provided, life insurance or savings that enabled you to clear the card or continue paying in any eventuality, then write back and reject the rejection, if this is a final response, you need to go to FOS.
  • I wasnt sure if I would get very far, but i downloaded the letter and questionaire from MSE, and sent them directly to my bank ...8 weeks later I have an offer from the bank for £10,000!!! To say i was cuffed to bits is an understatement!!!! A big boost to my deposit fund!!!:j

Thank you MSE, without all your information this wouldnt have happened!

If you have'nt already done this then its definately worth it!!!:T
