:TI sent three letters off claming ppi,two for loans with the Halifax and one with a credit card to MBNA, and to my delight four weeks later i recieved five cheques with a sub total of....£14,878. I am at the moment claming ppi for a car loan i had years ago with Caryle Finance.I have found the document stating that this loan had payment protection plan.(PPI). , So hopefully another cheque will be in the post. I did all this myself, by just sending letters to the companys involved, that way i keep all the cash ,and dont pay 30% to the companys that ring you up asking to do it for you.

all for the cost of postage stamps, GOOD- LUCK.
  • Didn't think this applied to me because I was convinced I'd never taken out PPI. Then Tesco's wrote to me just before Christmas about a couple of Loans taken out starting in 2002, filled their short questionaire in and I'm now gobsmacked to be receiving a check for £8500. I'm embarrassed I got hoodwinked, but the windfall kind of sweetens it. Big thanks to MSE for raising the profile of this.:T

Thank you for your prompt reply. So if i am still paying off my balance according to what they ask for each month and have not missed a payment and am not in arrears does this mean that the money will be refunded to me
Yes, it will be refunded to you when they have got your acceptance

  • Hi

I had a number of loans and credit cards with LV (liverpool victoria), i actually applied through frizzell. I would say i had these from 2001. I basically went mad with loans and credit cards and i suffered the consequences.

Last year i sent a simply email to LV saying that i was missold and didnt know i had ppi on my loans and within a few days i got an offer of £1400. I took it straight away.

Just before xmas i remember about the credit card and sent an email to LV also, last friday they offered £577 of which i have taken also. both of these amounts included the 8%.
I am over the moon with these results.

I am having difficult with another credit card i had years ago and was wondering if anyone could help. I had a credit card monument then provident or vice versa i cant remember which came first. they must have bought each other out or something. I wrote to monument who have come back saying my account was sold to barclaycard...i dont ever remember dealing with barclaycard and prob had my account closed before that happened. Who is liable for the PPI now as monument didnt really address any issues. also it provident came first i had most of ppi with them. does anyone have contact details.

Also I have currently VWFS agreement which GAP insurance has been put on it. Should this insurance be in total borrowed credit ?? as i think it may be sold incorrectly

    any help would be appreciated.
  • I can report two successes. The first with Citibank was straightforward. I applied for a credit card in 2003 when I was self-employed. PPI was added. I wrote to Citibank and they replied quickly, upholding my claim and compensating me to the value of 2000 including interest. The second with Liverpool Victoria ( a loan this time 2002-2005) was claimed because LV had ticked the box on my credit agreement and asked me to verify that it was appropriate for my circumstances (being self-employed it wasn't). I still signed (in those days I skimmed small-print) but they found in my favour and a cheque for 2500 was sent. My final claim is a tougher nut to crack. MBNA! I had a credit card from 1998-2005 and for the most part wasn't self-employed. I paid my £1 to get a copy of my application form and I can see that I have specifically circled 'no' for PPI (or Payment Protection Cover as they call it). I have most of my statements and I can see that PPI was added and amounts to close to 7000 over that period. I do not have a copy of the credit agreement but I think that as I specifically circled 'no' I think I have a valid claim?

I have just heard back from MBNA with a letter saying 'I do not have sufficient information regarding your sale and as such, would request that you complete and return the enclosed questionnaire'. This effectively asks me for the same information I have already provided. It does suggest that their 'wiggle room' is to say that 'it's so long ago that we have no records' even though I have supplied them with my credit application (and the T&C's) where I have explicitly stated that I did not want Payment Protection Cover by ticking the 'NO' box. The application does say 'this is a Credit Agreement regulated by the Consumer Credit Agreement Act 1974. Sign it only if you want to be legally bound by its terms.' I had thought this was a straightforward claim but now I am not so sure!
  • Dear all,

Bear with me as I am a mse forum virgin. Apologies I advance for some basic questions....

I rang barclaycard today and they admitted mid-selling ppi via third party vendor. The person on the pone said that a complaint had been raised and that barclaycard wold be in touch.I insisted on getting a reference and some sort if time scale for a reply.

Bit of background, I applied for a barclaycard in 2003. It seems that the pip started in June 2004. Not once have I ever sought poi or selected it on any product whatsoever. I was not sent any policy information etc. I have to be really honest until I started reading Mse I was not inclined to peer to closely at my barclaycard statement. I have been paying for ppi for 102 months.

Anyway, my question mown is should I now send in a fob questionnaire or do I wait or Barclay card I contact me has anyone had a similar experience?
  • Hi
I have just received a refund for 9000 from Barclays, however, this was from the initial offer in September 2011. I never received this letter unti Novem ber 2012. They say that I also need a further 14 months payments from 2003 but they are waiting for statements for the archives before they pay this extra payments out. What my question is:

    a. As my card is still current should I have an exra 16 months interest on the 9000 that I just have been paid.
    b. Will the 14 months payments incurr interest from 2003 to present
    c. In the 9000, 2000 of it was interest at 8% should the 8% be recalcualted with the 14 months extra payments from 2003 and the payments from September 2011 to january 2013.

Thanks for your advice, it just so that I have an idea of what to expect when they eventuall do pay me the rest of the money

I submitted a PPI claim in respect of a Goldfish card with Barclaycard in August last year. Initially they responded with a 'we are unable to locate the original / any policy in your name and therefore are unable to uphold your complaint'. I challenged them over this as I have statements which clearly show where the PPI has been charged. As I heard nothing after 6 weeks, I contacted them to be advised that they had not matched up my paperwork and they would now be reopening the case and requesting further statements / information in respect of my claim. I know this is not an upheld decision but had I not followed this up it would probably be gathering dust under someone's desk!! Always chase up and don't be put off by weak responses! The Ombudsman is always there!;)

  • A little bit of background information to begin with............

I have 8 claims currently on-going with Barclays Bank (sent in my questionnaires end of November 2012) 5 for mis-selling of PPI on different loans I had taken out over the years, 1 claim for PPI I paid on my overdraft up until 2010, 1 claim for PPI on a Barclaycard and 1 claim for PPI on a Mastercard I had with Barclays. What an ideal candidate I was back then when I was a bit wet behind the ears and totalling trusting of my Mr Barclays Bank (they really were rubbing their hands together whenever I approached them).

From the very beginning when I took out my very first loan/overdraft/credit card, I was told that I had to have PPI/Insurance in order to secure said application. Can you believe it was only until I received my letter from Barclays confirming receipt of my questionnaires that I realised I could cancel PPI on my loan currently running. In all my time with the bank I have never heard the word "optional" used.

I remember in early 2007 (my last loan) a gentleman from Barclays phoned me regarding the application and asked why I hadn't included the "Insurance"? I advised him that I didnt think I needed it (I was older and feeling brave) I had a stable job, never got ill, would be paid sick leave if I were sick & I had private medical cover and if the worst did happen and I were to fall ill, be made redundant etc my folks would help me out. I was told this didn't count and how did I know that I wasnt going to get hurt in an accident etc in the future. I was told the bank would pursue me for any outstanding monies if I couldnt pay and also that my loan application may be rejected without it and it was really advisable that I had it. I thought to myself here was this nice guy from this mighty fine banking institution being totally frank and honest with me, trying in any way he could to help me secure my loan, and frighten me to death in the meantime and I on the other hand was just a silly woman who didn't know her bottom from her elbow and was, in truth, scared of banks/big institutions. I totally, 100% trusted that fine, honourable gent from Barclays Bank. What an idiot I was back then and have been up until 2012.:(

I received a letter back in December upholding my complaint (loan of £500 - 2003) £103 refunded back into my account.

On 9th January 2013 a credit went into my bank of £2,766.97 and £954.00 (not sure as to which claims these related to). Telephoned Barclays who advised I should be receiving a letter within 10 days explaining. No letter arrived!!!

Yesterday, was my birthday, seriously (24.01.69). Arrived in work and had received an email from MoneySavingExpert.com wishing me "happy birthday" - Thanks guys. :)

Yesterday evening walked through my front door and stepped straight onto a thick white A4 envelope. I noticed the return address of Leicester and my heart sank as I thought it was from Barclays returning my outstanding questionnaires. :(

I was pleasantly surprised!! "For all loans listed above we will refund you a total amount of £11,863.97 in cash". I telephoned Barclays this morning who advised that the sums of £2,766.97 and £954 that had already been paid into my account were to be deducted from the £11,863.97 = £8,143 still be be refunded to my account on receipt of new loan agreement (2007) loan still active and to be restructured.

I am still awaiting their decision regarding my Barclaycard & Mastercard (by 17.02.13).

To think, I wasnt even going to bother trying as I was too scared, not very conversant etc. Then I decided I would use a "third party" but then, thankfully, came on here, read a bit more "grew a pair" and did it myself.

    I am so glad I did:T:T

If I can do it, anyone can.
