Hi briefly my situation is pretty much the same - I have now passed my complaint over to the FOS as I had (have) adequate NHS cover should I get sick.

With the MBNA rejection letter I received a copy of the form I filled out and signed in 2001 where it clearly stated they recommend I take out the cover. On the application form I had mentioned I worked for the NHS 3 times -
Where I accept it was not an advisory sale, I couldn't find any clear information to help me make an informed decsion about whether or not I needed the PPI at that time.
I also rang MBNA after their rejection letter to ask if I could have actually claimed if I had of needed to since I had NHS benefits - I was told no! ( Call was recorded)!

I am in the 5th month now of waiting with FOS and recently had an email to say they are looking at my case now.
I am keeping everything crossed and trying to stay optimistic xx
    Good luck with your case:)

Thanks Moose, it's nice to see something supportive from a fellow claimaint. I'm not going to give up and will pass my complaint on to FOS soon. Good luck.
  • Well, hopefully the ball has started rolling for me with my claims. A small amount of progress, but progress nonetheless....sent my claims in by Recorded Delivery so maybe that's helped speed things along...?

Barclays Banks (Masterloan) - they signed for my claim form on 02/10/12, I received an acknowledgement letter on 06/10/12 with a promise of a reply or update within 8 weeks.

Lombard (Royscot Financial Services) - they signed for my claim form on 09/10/12 and I received an acnowledgement letter today, 12/10/12, promising an upate or a full response within ten working days.

Universal Credit -Not a peep yet, unsurprisingly....

    Update 26/11/12

Lombard (Royscot Financial Services) - they did reply within the stated ten days, surprisingly, on 23/10/12. They stated they are 'unable to locate any details releating to the Loan Agreement which I sent them'. However, if I can provide more details such as proof that PPI payments were made, they will investigate further. Fair enough. So it's off to TSB to try and obtain some old bank statements so they will re-examine my complaint.

Paragon (Universal Credit) - Still fighting this rejection of my complaint. This one is the one I feel most strongly about as they are wriggling out of their responsibilities by stating the 'non-regulated environment' clause which, legally, may be the case but there were several valid reasons for my complaint so I'll battle on because Universal Credit were sharks. My complaint is currently with the FLA and the FOS, both of whom have agreed to investigate. We'll see what they say, either way...

Barclays Bank (Masterloan) - for all the negative stuff I've read on here about Barclays, I have to take my hat off to them. They promised me a response / update by 26/11/12 (eight weeks from initial complaint) and boy did they deliver. I received a letter from them (dated 15/11/12) last week. First thing to fall out as I unfolded the letter was the Ombudsman leaflet. I immediately thought 'Here we go again, another battle'. Second thing that fell out was a cheque for £3191. They upheld my complaint that the PPI policy sold was 'not suitable for my needs'. I didn't even have to wait for the cheque - it was all there, the letter of apology, a breakdown of how the payment was arrived at and a cheque.

Words can't express how happy I am, not just because of the cheque, but also because of the apology. Those who have read my posts on here the last few weeks will know this wasn't just about money but about getting an apology for the rotten behaviour some greedy loan companies / banks practiced in the 1990's, costing not just thousands of pounds to customers in extortionate & unnecessary charges for PPI) but causing worry & misery and ultimately relationships & lives. Thank you Barclays for accepting responsibility.

So if you truly believe you have a genuine reason for your complaint, don't be put off by being accused of 'trying it on' or of being 'a chancer' - not everyone finds it easy to express themselves correctly in their posts, doesn't mean they're trying it on...

Stay strong and focussed and be patient....the truth will always out :)

Wife got a cheque for £1300 for credit card and 2 weeks later £700 from a loan.i had heard nothing, then last week got 2 phonecalls in space of 2 days 1 regarding credit cards(4 one dating back to 1985) and 1 regarding loans (3),answered questions and they said they,d collate answers and contact me by letter in a week or 2. You said you paid off the account in 2008 which means that they don't have to provide credit agreements for closed accounts.

If you're not sure if you had PPI try phoning them and asking, either that or issue them with a SAR.

Sent claims form off to Citibank about a week ago, on behalf of Dad, stating product was missold as was added without knowledge/consent, and was entirely inadequate to his circumstances, partly due to other finances in place but also due to self-employment.

Anybody know if Citibank give a confirmation to receiving the claim? Haven't had anything yet.

Have finally lost patience with Barclays and emailed CEO with the comedy of errors so far....
initial claim sent on 9th August rejected on the grounds no PPI on account, I reminded them I had sent a statement in with the complaint, turns out they had scanned my statement onto someones else's account. Was told it would be reopened, it wasn't, called again yes we will reopen it, called again not reopened, called again guess what (I know you are seeing a theme by now :rotfl:) not reopened, finally reopened on the 25th Oct. Called today for an update to be told a letter is in the post telling me that they have assigned someone to look at it and there is no timescale!!!

Have given CEO until close of business on Monday to reply to my email, if no reply then will presume failings in the company go right to the top!!!

Will keep you posted on any/if any reply

Barclays dealt with my complaint in a fairly speedy & professional manner. I sent them my complaint form (MSE Template) & had an acknowledgement within days, promising an update or response within eight weeks. Seven weeks after they received my complaint & copy agreement, I received an apology & a cheque.

No calls or letters or any other chasing required in between. Cheque enclosed with 'letter of decision' so no waiting for that either. I accept that not everyone gets such a speedy resolution but thought it only fair to report the positive stuff as well as the negative stuff....
