PPI Reclaiming successes and failures

First of all did you apply on line ?
This was stated on my letter from them but I sent it as a mail shot.
I sent them a copy that had been sent to me from them as part of my SAR , having had a credit card there was also a loan and the agreement copy sent was pre ticked a very neat precise tick something I have never been capable of , my writing is abysmal.
At present I am going through the SAR and most probably will pass my complaint to the FOS the wait will be worthwhile hopefully ?
By the way before I am taken to task I had a very valid reason not to be requesting PPI.Light travels faster than sound.
This is why some people seem as bright until you hear them.0 -

Basically they are saying as I applied online, I was directed to a different screen for the PPI and I ticked the box to purchase the PPI and given this, they "are satisfied that I actively chose to purchase PPI and understood that it was optional when I did so".
They also said I was elegible for the cover being a uk citizen and employed etc and they did not offer advice only information "in other words your's was a non-advised sale". They also say that I had sufficient info to make my own evaluation and will not be upholding my complaint.
Well to me all this is a very weak argument, how do I know what box I did or did not tick in 2001 and they did not provide evidence of this. I also dont know if it was something I was strongly advised to do or possibly had to "untick" a box to remove the PPI from the application as a lot of web sites are clever about these days. Anyway long story short, I'm unhappy and I dont know what to do next. I also note from this forum that other people have had their claims upheld in similar circumstances so why have I been rejected? Anyone else receive a similar letter from MBNA or other and what should I do now, write back to them or go straight to FOS? any advice will be much appreciated.
Sounds like you didnt really have any reasons for complaint and were trying it on and that failed.
When you buy online it is much harder to get a success. You cannot complain about a number of things that others will because it was not sold to you. You chose to buy it. You are really only reliant on the application process having a technical failure. They are saying their process was fine.
What were your reasons for complaint?
A lot of the providers were auto paying out on complaints where the amount involved was below a floor limit figure when they had backlog or volume of complaints is high. Some still are. So, its possible that they got lucky. It is possible there is a technical failing on the application process (although havent seen anything on this board that I recall to suggest there is).I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.0 -

I complained to MBNA at the beginning of this month, it was upheld and yesterday recieved a cheque for £2,500...I also took out the card online in 2002 but the box for PPI was already pre ticked, which was the reason I gave. No quibbles with them at all and has only taken 3 weeks in total.
I would go straight to FOS if I was you0 -

donston, I'm not sure I like your accusation that I was "trying it on", I dont see that I'm any different than any other claimaint in that the Credit Card Company took a lot on money off me for PPI which I could ill afford an was no doubt coerced into buying, online or otherwise. I don't recall there being a cooling off period either. Maybe someone can advise me whether to take this further or give up.0 -
I just want to write to say thanks to everyone who posted on here about how easy PPI was to reclaim. Took me until this month to contact an old bank (RBoS) and query PPI i paid on a loan - they took my details, and this morning came home to one envelope with several letters all offering me a settlement. It was SO much more than i thought i would get, and my query was just in the off chance. Ironically, it was more than the loan i took out.... i am now £12,000 richer and it may sound a cliche but 'i never thought it would happen to me'.
Should mention that i paid the loan off in 2007.0 -

I laughed out loud at this. How did a web page "coerce" you? Did a hand reach out from the screen and put a gun to your head? Did a video appear of someone threatening you if you didn't tick the PPI box?
They told you the application was completed online, and you do not dispute this. So I find it incredibly hard to see how they could have possibly coerced you.I don't recall there being a cooling off period either. Maybe someone can advise me whether to take this further or give up.
Give up, because they are entirely correct that the sale was non-advised and that you chose to purchase the product, meaning any complaint you have with having it lies with yourself.urs sinserly,

You must have been trying it on because no-one sold it to you. You bought it. However, you are now trying to blame someone else. The response you typed out from the card provider indicated complaint reasons that cannot apply to online purchases. If you tell us your reasons for complaint then we may take a different view but as it stands, your posts indicate no grounds for complaint.
Please can you explain how a website can coerce you into buying the product?I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. A big thank you for all the advice on hear
Two years ago I told my brother to claim back the PPI he had on a loan with Egg. He called them and was told that as they were not affiliated to the ombudsman when he took the loan that the rules didn't apply to them and he couldn't reclaim
He then emigrated to Australia. I spent a long time reading all the advice and posts on here and realized that this could not be true. I convinced him to let me claim on his behalf. He has just been refunded £8845.63.

Today I opened a letter from NRAM (Northern Rock Asset Management) . I put in a claim on 9 November for PPI taken out on 3 seperate personal loans in years 2000, 2001 and 2002. I used the PPI questionnaire on this site for each complaint/claim. I have been informed by NRAM that I am entitled to over £7,500 made up of £4285 PPI premiums and £3282 simple interest. I made sure I took copies of my claims and sent them off by recorded delivery, for a cost of approximately £6-£7 (photocopying and postage) I have received a very tidy sum of money which will come in handy to repay a zero interest credit card where payment is due in May 2013! Thanks so much Martin and to your wonderful website. :j:T:A:D0

Thank you money saving expert. I have just received notification from my bank that they have paid into my account £14361.31. I used the advice on your website and did not even consider using a claims management company.
I was reclaiming the PPI paid on 8 loans - which were all consolidation loans i.e. paying the older one off with a new one for more money
All the loans were with the Royal Bank of Scotland
£14,361.31 was the total amount refunded
I sent the FOS questionnaire on the 24.10.12.
The RBS sent a letter back saying they were looking into my complaint. Two weeks later an offer letter on each of the 8 loans was received. I considered the offers reasonable and sent the confirmation slips back. On Friday I received 8 text messages for each of the amounts that my bank account had been credited. This included the original sums of PPI paid with interest at 8% per annum and a deduction of tax at 20%.
What an easy process and thank you so much for your advice.0
