That's interesting. Do you know why you were upheld on the Lloyds CC but rejected on the loan?

Banks don't discuss the reasons they uphold complaints, they only detail the reasons for rejection. For this reason it's entirely possible (likely even) that the reasons the OP gave for complaint are NOT the reasons the Bank decided to award redress for.

Note that it does not automatically follow that if one complaint is upheld then others will be too.
Each claim is dealt with on it's own merits (or lack of them).

the only difference was that I had said I had gone into branch about a year before to cancell the ppi on cc and was talked out if it. I worked for the NHS so had good sick pay benefits

Any mis-selling complaint needs to focus on what happened at the time of the original sale. Subsequent attempts by the Bank to make you keep the insurance are not relevant and will have played no part in the Bank's consideration of your concerns.

As I said above, what you actually complained about and the basis on which your complaint was upheld could be two different things!

This is the reason otherwise weak complaints can still be upheld; the Bank's investigation can turn up more serious faults which the complainant may not be aware of or didn't consider.

Well done on your (partial) success.

I have had a successful payout from MBNA but just got a rejection letter from sainsburys stating that I took the PPI out over the phone and he is reassured that it would have been explained to me but also stating that the credit card was taken out in 2003 a couple of years before ppi was regulated but a couple of weeks previously someone phoned me and asked me how I took the PPI out and I said I couldnt remember but it wouldn't have been in store. Can they refuse to pay out ? Do they have to give you proof of the phone-call ?

Can someone explain what happened in 2003?

Out of interest (since we were talked into PPI) how did they talk you out of cancelling it? What changed your mind?
  • Hi there, looking for a little help.

Can anyone tell me who I make a Cheque payable to for a Natwest S.A.R.

    Many Thanks

Nothing happened in 2003 relevant to PPI. As JULESSHEW said, he took out the card two years before regulation began in 2005.
