PPI Reclaiming successes and failures

Well, first of all, I have to say a big THANK YOU to MoneyIneptitude who took the time to reply to my PMs when I started this journey
.
I'd had the 'thanks for your complaint letter', the 'it's been 4 weeks letter' and knew that the 8 week deadline had just passed and was expecting a battle with Egg saying letters had been sent etc. Anyway, was just going to try on a wedding dress (I've already got one but been having wobbles about it) and decided to check the post box when I notice a letter from Derby - knew it was them. Ripped it open in the hallway and was utterly stunned by what I read....
I sent the form off with proof of a single premium PPI of £1,290, I thought I would be incredibly lucky if they returned that plus some interest. What they have offered me is £3,348.52 :j, an additional amount of £56.61 is apparently going to a sub co to pay off an outstanding balance (which could be right, I need to check with my DMP provider as the rest is all finished).
My heart was racing and I almost cried, had such a crappy week and ended up in A&E on Thursday and then was stressed over whether I could afford another wedding dress - this has really changed everything and whilst I will only 100% believe it when I have the cheque I am absolutely thrilled.

I'm a bit confused because I thought they had started to pay out so how can they say they did not make the sale in one case and accept responsibility for the sale in others.
They state have not investigated and advise their complaint process is over. and to go to Santander (which was were I started back in August) or should I just go straight to FOS.
Any ideas....
Thanx
Hiya
Thanks for you pm and have responded to it just now.
Sorry to hear about the rejection.
Did you write a letter to complain or complete the questionnaire?
Not that should make much difference, but what I did was put it all into letter, it was not a short one, and the wording of the complaint was important as well.
I provided some information from researching about the responsibilities they do have, which gave me a reason to write to them.
However, I did not think it would be a successful one.
In the letter, they did not say why they were refunding, only that they received the relevant information on the policy to give an offer of the full refund.
If they have not said its final, maybe you should write back, ask if they will reconsider and give further information if you can. xxThe one and only "Dizzy Di"0 -
Thanks for the replies they were really helpful, I have been given a detailed breakdown and it shows interest on the premium I paid, the erroneous fees I incurred on the policy and gross interest at the FOS rate, so i'm pretty sure its been worked out correctly. Its just daft to me, if they were wrong admit it and pay accordingly and if not they don't have to pay or admit it, all this in-between stuff is confusing!
Thinking about the advice given I don't think there is much point in pursuing the matter any further, the amount was less than I wanted but it is still better than nothing and I am better off than I was before!0 -
Anyone have an email for the CEO of HFC. Sent a R/D letter on 1st Sept, confirmed they received it on the 3rd when I rang on the 10 Sept, heard nothing since so rang them in the week - 7 times I had to repeat the date I sent the letter, the date I phoned & the date it was confirmed they received it. After nearly 25 mins (on hold for 10 mins) I was told they haven't got it and to send another letter. Big communication problems between UK and India - their customer service is pathetic.
Any help would be great.0 -
Hi all, I decided not to claim back my PPI due to not having time, but I changed my mind after reading successes on here and decided to give it a go, it took less time than I thought even though I had lots of previous credit cards and loans. Firstly I made a list of every financial organisation I had PPI with, then systematically phoned each one to get the ball rolling. My complaints were based on not knowing I could buy PPI elsewhere and never having had it explained to me properly at meetings, over the internet and postal applications going back 10+ years. I have already had some rejections of which I have sent to the ombudsman, but I have also had a Barclaycard credit card upheld for £1002.51. So even if the others all say no, I'm still better off already. I would urge anyone who thinks they don't have time to just make that initial phone call, then you more or less just sit back and wait, don't delay...DO IT NOW!:j0

I have had a successful payout from MBNA but just got a rejection letter from sainsburys stating that I took the PPI out over the phone and he is reassured that it would have been explained to me but also stating that the credit card was taken out in 2003 a couple of years before ppi was regulated but a couple of weeks previously someone phoned me and asked me how I took the PPI out and I said I couldnt remember but it wouldn't have been in store. Can they refuse to pay out ? Do they have to give you proof of the phone-call ?0

Send all your info to the Ombudsman same as I did, you have received the typical reply from First plus
Hi there, the poster you have replied to posted the " not upheld from FP " last September, they did win with FP in October last year after taking advice from this site, just letting you know the outcome0 -
