  • Hi Di

hope you don't mind me asking I just wondered how long Genworth took to respond to you. The reason I ask is I have not received any acknowledgement and I sent the questionnaire on 14th October for my Debenhams card.

Also I have now missed two calls from Shop Direct (they call when I'm at work and when I try to call back it just a message saying " you have missed a courtsey call" do you think this will go against me?

Well done on your successes by the way :T

    Hiya

To be exact with dates on Genworth, after being rejected at first by Santander via (GE cap bank)Curry account, I sent my letter (I did not complete a questionnaire on that one to the underwriter) it was done by writing a letter.
Posted by recorded delivery 19 Oct 2012.
And the letter arrived from them yesterday, but looking on the date of their letter they had made the offer on 23 Oct, so it was just days they resolved it.

No in regards of shop direct it will not go against, you but email them and ask if they will kindly correspond by email as you are not available by phone.;)

Good luck and thank you x:beer:

  • Cheers for your quick reply Di.

I'll give Genworth a bit longer my Debenhams card had massive use but unfortunately I did not send it recorded.

I will resend (recorded of course) if I do not hear by next week.

Hopefully I hear something good from both soon ;)

    Di
just took my call from shop direct hopefully a good coincidence lol.

I sent Genworth on 14th October - no acknowledgement at all.

Shop direct i emailed 20th september but they have acknowledeged & asked for further info.

You get no clue from the conversation whether its gonna be favourable or not so i will just have to be patient. ;)

So much for patience - i called Genworth and they have confirmed they have received my complaint and I should hear from them in the next few days.

    Hi

My complaint was that I had not requested Payment Protection I dont have it on my loan with the bank and therefore wouldn't have taken it with my card

I have signed the credit agreement not realising there is a sqaure box that says Card Protection Yes. I think I must have had to opt out of this and I didn't, when I signed the credit agreement I was signing for the card not the payment protection. I did not receive a copy of the policy and what this entailed until they sent me an annual review letter this year, which made me realise I was paying for this and actually to to the level of cover I receive from my employer, its of no benefit to me which is why I wouldnot have knowingly requested this.

I had a previous credit card with RBS which was sold in branch when I was 18 and remember the person in the bank telling me to take this due to my age, I then think I got an offer through for a new classic card which I have applied for.

You can refer the complaint to the FOS. You may get lucky but only a small number of internet applications succeed. Your reasons are largely your own fault (blunt but better to position it how it is rather than wrap it up in cotton wool and give false hope). If we bullet point it as follows you will see what I mean.
    1 - you applied online.
2 - you chose to have it
3 - no sales rep was involved
4 - it appeared on your statements for nearly a decade
5 - you chose not to read your statements.

So, when looking at it like that, who is to blame?

Your complaint reason is irrelevant. Not having it on one product does not mean it is wrong to have it on another. The things are not linked.

As I said, you can still refer it to the FOS and they will look at the online process and you may win on a technicality. However, most do not. So, do it but don't be confident of success.

  • I finally got an offer from Halifax yesterday for close to £700!

After writing to them back in July they initially rejected my complaint.

I got back to them saying they hadn't addressed the central issues of my complaint. I also attached extra evidence - employment contracts, figures, etc.

Quite a few weeks later they called me and went over everything again.

It all culminated in a full refund plus interest.

Thanks so much to everyone on this site and all the responses i received.

I'd also say... don't give up!
  • I'm going to have a very merry xmas after getting an offer today from lloyds tsb for over £4,500 for an old consolidation loan. This only happened due to MSE and your advice. If I can do it myself, so can you.

    Thanks MSE
  • Claim originally with Norton Finance then onto eventually FSCS been there since July. £10,000 loan over 25 years (i know) nearly seven years into loan. ppi added to loan at 15% each month.Didnt know i had it , was off work 3 months -never claimed . Same employer for last 12 years. 6 months full pay 6 months half pay.Fscs sending it to get processed marked priority!! All information received. How would they calculate refund in this case with future (18 years) ppi payments. Monthly payments £101 (£116) including ppi . So will be paying this ppi that finished after 5 years for the next 18 years!!!

Great news! I'm so glad this was sorted so quickly and you didn't need to go to FOS.

It does go to show that everyone should attach as much supporting evidence as possible with the original complaint. No point holding anything back....
