On your DD list that you can access from internet banking, is the DD not showing on there? this was only cleared 3 years ago so it should be there, I have one on mine from 2004, it is paid up but is still showing.
I cannot believe this cannot be found from 3 years ago, give the ICO a call and ask if Santander should have destroyed the Data this soon and if they have not, why do they need the account number.

    0303 123 1113

Can you call into a branch of Santander and ask as they may find you, if you already have then sorry :D

Hi Amersall, apoloiges about not coming back earlier,
I have been in london on business last 3 days,
Checked internet banking no number on old statements and account is now been deleted in old direct debits
I have called Santander and the chap was helpful but couldnt find the account number under my name asked me to send £1 and write to Archives on historic loans and they should hold info,.
Also called ICO and they advised to send their letter in their website to data protection manager as they should have info, and advised strongly to use their complaint letter if info wasnt supplied on return. again your advice would be much appreciated

    many thanks

    stevo
  • I just want to share my story on a claim for PPI that I didn't think I would have any chance of successful.
It was loan protection that I had with LLoyds TSB and my claim was successful to the tune of £4k for loans that I had over 20years ago!

I sent in a general letter to LTSB asking all loans that I had taken PPI since I banked with them. They replied that I had no loans with PPI but I knew that I had taken insurance on my first loans with them which was nearly 25 years ago. I gave the PPI helpline a call and they advised that their records didn't go back that far but if I tried the local branch then they might still have the account numbers from back then. So I phoned the original branch that I took the loans through and they managed to provide the loan account number and the date the loan started but didn't have the loan amount. I then used the MSE standard PPI claim template with these details and waited! Approx 3 months later I received £4k from 3 very old loans!! Very Happy as I thought I'd have no chance.
  • I had a number of loans from Lloyds TSB and have just received a letter today telling me I can expect a repayment of PPI amounting to £4252.46.
This has made me enormously happy.
I heard Martin speaking on Radio 2 in the summer and it at long last galvanised me into action, having put off the paperwork for so long.
It was more a psychological issue as it meant revisiting a difficult time in my life. However, Martin's rant on the radio really did the trick. I put a DVD on for the children, and sat down at the computer. I actually used the Which template letter in the end, but it was Martin who got me to sit down and do it.
Many thanks - a lovely birthday present for my birthday in a few days!

  • I have just received a letter form Capital One with an offer of £630 - They kept me in the loop every step of the way with letters regulaly expalining of delays due to the high demand of claims!!! Thank you to everyone for all the forum information on this fab site. Happy to report I had no problems with Capital One. Thanks Martin for all you dedication and hard work convincing us that it really can be done
1 down 5 to go

    Many thanksto all :j

This sigh of relief is not only because I finally got an offer, but because I feel unlucky in most things and just think if I talk about something beforehand, I get jinxed. Thus I was watching this forum for a good 5 weeks in agony! :silenced:

However, I swore to myself that I would narrate my story whichever way it went in the end just so onlookers like myself would be pushed to give it a try. Can I also add that I didnt realise this forum existed until about 2 weeks after I posted my claim, which means it really IS that straightforward and I didnt know about any 'tips' from here so to speak. I used the template from the front page and read all the instructions that came with it. I will give you a breakdown of the dates and amounts just to give anyone else an idea.

30th July - posted form by recorded delivery, think it cost me about £1.40?

9th August - received confirmation letter from HSBC stating they would take 8 weeks to look into the matter. Please note that this was postmarked 7th August. Another point to note is they sent another form for me to fill out but this was the same as the template from here. They DID state in the letter to 'fill this if you havent done so already'. So I assumed it was a standard letter that came with their response. I took a risk by not re-sending this form but deep down, I knew I could argue my initial form because I recorded it.

29th September - received offer letter which sounded more like they couldnt look into my matter directly, possibly because it was so long ago?, not that I am complaining. :D

So if we are going by postmarks then this whole process took 6 weeks and if we going by when I received it then it was 7 weeks.

The amount I paid in PPI was roughly £980 over a 5 year period for a loan I took out in 2003. I was offered roughly £1550, which is inclusive of 8% taxable interest. When I got the letter this morning, I was simply looking out for the word 'offer' and I chucked the rest of the leaflets in the air and run off to the postbox with my acceptance letter. :rotfl: I am told it will be paid into my account within 4 weeks of receipt of my acceptance so I promise to keep you all informed.

In other news, I just want to say thank you to Moneyineptitude and Amersall. Even though I never asked you a question directly, I still read your responses to others, which is hilarious at times :p, and I commend you for helping out.

Oh and cheers to Martin for his excellent work! :money:
  • Brilliant and well done

I have managed to reclaim on 5 loans, each with a different lender.

First time I used a Claims Management Company (very expensive andthey were not good), second time used another CMC but only paid them £100.

Third time used diyppi.com - brilliant bit of software and amazingly inexpensive (£30) for what it does (recommended to me by my friend who is a lawyer).

Fourth time used the free templates on this site - very good but things did get complicated which left me a bit out of my depth but got there eventually.

Fifth time went back to diyppi (£30 spent was worth the reduced hassle).

All in all reclaimed £8,765.52 of which £986.95 has gone to CMC's and £60 to diyppi (wish I'd gone with them first as would be £926.95 better off)

Moral of my story (which has taken over 2 years) is don't use a CMC!!!!

  • Hi all
apologies if this is not the correct thread, but, need some advice....
In 1990 I had to take out a PPI with my mortgage (it was a condition of the mortgage offer so had no choice!)
Iam still paying this & wonder if I have any recourse for compensation?
    Thanks in advance
