PPI Reclaiming successes and failures

Successfully reclaimed PPI from an EGG loan I took out in 2003/2004 (and paid off a few years ago).
Did it myself. Just filled in the appropriate form and sent it to Egg. Received a letter a week later saying that they were reviewing my complaint.
Today I received 2 letters. One saying that my case is still being reviewed and I may be contacted, and another with a settlement figure of £700! All I have to do is sign a form, send it back and i'll get a cheque within 15 days!
One of my housemates claimed over £5500 back in PPI from various loans he had, so thats what motivated me to do it.0 -
hello, I wonder if someone can give me some advice / suggestions please.
Took out a Credit Card in 1990, at the same time as taking out a mortgage. The account is still active.
Made a claim about 9 weeks ago and today have received a letter from the company offering a goodwill gesture which includes a refund of premiums from 1998 to 2011 when we cancelled the PPI + interest
Does anyone have any idea why the company won't go back to the start of the account in 1990?
It's a fair total amount that has been offered (£4000) but we wonder if it should be more because they should have taken the premiums paid since the start of the account in 1990
Any suggestions / thoughts / comments would be appreciated. We've not done this before so any guidance would be appreciated0 -

My husband and I done a remortgage just over 5 years ago through a company called moneypartners. They were a company that helped people get remortgages who did not have A1 credit rating. The mortgage went through and is with Kennsington Mortgages. At the same time PPI was taken out on my husband, which I believe was discussed by the agent with me, NOT my husband as he never spoke to anyone at all through the process only signed the agreement papers. I beleive I was told it was compulsury for the main wage earner. I have got the paperwork out yesterday, and the insurance was done through Sterling. It was fronted loaded onto our mortgage advance for £3717.35, and the Stirling paper states that is was only for 5years cover! Why would you have insurance anyway that was only going to cover 5 years and the mortgage is for 25 years.
On what I beleive I read at the time about misselling of PPI isnt it wrong to front load a premium and then charge interest on it, and also what benefit would someone get have 5 years cover on a 25 year mortgage.
Could someone please advise if they have had any dealings with Moneymatters or Stirling Insurance Group, and if we have grounds to claim this money back.
Any help appreciated.0 -
Hello, Egg banking settlement figure £1953.76 :j of which I received only 8% interest, due to using a PPI company taking 25% + vat = over £500!! the difference was paid direct to my outstanding EGG balance, I have a bill for £586.12 not good...so then i downloaded the document from this website I sent off 5 more PPI claims direct. HSBC and Bank of Scotland have so far acknowledged my complaint, so fingers crossed:D having just read that DFS are paying out I shall send a copy to them.
What I cannot get over, is the fact during this PPI period I became a single mum, with a mortgage, working part-time then lost my job for a short while unemployed, I did contact EGG and momument and asked them due to difficult times having no work could they stop the interest and black list me, of which they both did....so after all these years paying them monthly, I could have had PPI paid out and then continued with my cards. Hopefully Halifax will payout on the mortgage PPI0 -

So even if your "go it alone" complaints are successful you can expect the CMC to still require their cut, I'm afraid. Check your contract with them, it's legally binding.0 -
I filled in the questionaire and Barclaycard have replied saying that they have found no evidence of a mis-sale. Should you feel our records are innacurate then please provide copies of appropriate evidence eg passport, buirth certifictae, bank statements etc.
Does this mean I cannot reclaim or is it a bank tactic to try and put me off.
The reasons for claiming were that I didn't even know I had PPI and also I am an Asthma sufferer.0 -
Received an offer from HSBC today for two PPI claims for loans taken out (one from 2006, one from 2007) for £651.33. All I did was fill in the PPI questionnaire from MSE. No need for any third party companies to get involved.
Its taken seven weeks from me initially sending off the forms to receiving the offer. All I have to do now is wait for the money to be paid to me which can take up to 4 weeks.
Very happy ::j
THANK YOU MSE!0 -
What were you reclaiming: PPI from 2 loans
Who was the provider: lloyds
How much did you get back: £5200 in total
Did you get it back after a letter or did you go to the Financial Ombudsman: I sent a letter based on a template I found on this site and added the circumstances that applied to me. I was first sent a standard response letter then a final letter saying I would be getting the money refunded to my loan plus interest.
Took about 11 weeks in total

Hello all,
Just been notified that Barclaycard have rejected by claim against PPI on my Goldfish credit card started in 1997.
Spoken to them today and they are sending me the form I filled in at the time showing that I ticked the box for PPI.
To quote them:
"We have identified that your application for PPI was submitted by post. At the point of applying for PPI, as no advice was given the process required you to select the specific type of cover you required.
In addition, we have conducted a review of the documentation you viewed during the sale. We are satisfied that the documentation presented accurately described scope of the policy, and was sufficient to provide you with all of the information necessary to inform you of the terms and conditions of the policy."
I dispute that the information provided was suitable and I will be taking the claim to the ombudsman.
Only difference is they never sent me the completed form they just said it was completed by post, which it wasn't a sales rep took the form and I was told I had to tick the PPI box it wasn't optional as I wouldn't get the credit card without it, I was pounced upon outside a supermarket.
Did you send this to the FOS and did you ever get a response?
Thanks0
