PPI Reclaiming successes and failures

  • Hi, I've just had a rejection letter from Lloyds for 2 loans taken out 2001 and 2002. I want to write back and offer further evidence, and they now tell me I applied in branch for the loans. Should I write and request copies of the 'in brnach notes' they have mentioned? When I first called Lloyds to make the complaint I did have the flimsiest of reasons - pressure selling, and I was led to believe I would get a reduced rate of interest by taking out the loans - and after reading the whole of this thread I know these are very often not upheld for PPI refunds. Now I know when and where (in branch - and I'm pretty sure I was called in for a 'account review' at the time - Lloyds used to do this a lot) I took the loans out I have also checked where I was working - I had 3 part time jobs at the time, and all would have paid me sick pay. I wonder if this is enough 'further evidence'? Should I now go down the SAR route? Or will Lloyds send me the loan details and T&Cs if asked? Any help appreciated. Thanks.

Credit cards and loans are different, if you paid off in full over many months then you wont have paid PPI.

How do you know it is notas much as what you have been paying over the years? Do you have comprehensive statements or have you taken one statement and multiplied by the number of years you held it for?

You can ask them for a full breakdown of the figures and how they arrived at the result. CC PPI does not normally pay as much out as loans as the pyments are generally a lot less.

Thanks very much, I had a fixed payment, so the amount I paid to the bank all these years is about £200 more, so I dont know if to accept the offer or claim it back.

You should receive an acknowledgement around 2 weeks, they then have 6 weeks to give you a final decision, they may ask for more time at this point, if they do, let them have it, you could have a result one way or the other sooner than the 8 weeks, good luck.

Regarding the response time from EGG/Barclays for credit card claims, hopefully my case is not the standard.

I got one of these letters. I waited a futher 6 weeks, phoned and was told they were still looking into it. It is now 10 weeks further down the line (18 in total). I think I've been patient long enough so I shall phone again.
I incurred the debt, I repaid the debt - all of it!:o DMP started with CCCS 20/07/2007 Was £32,735. Paid off all my creditors (June 2013) 7 yrs ahead of original DFD.
    PPI claims won against Barclays x 2/ Egg x 1/ LV x . PPI claims rejected and then upheld Barclays/Egg x 2

  • I was reclaiming PPI on a personal loan
    From Barclays Bank
    I got £9398.52 back
I sent the completed questionnaire off to Barclays, got an acknowledgement back after 14 days and got my decision with cheque included a week later. Three weeks in total.

I thought I didn't have any records of my loan, after all I took it out in 1998 but during a clear out at work I found a copy of the agreement so I thought I'd try for it.
That's going towards a new car 'cause ours is on it's last legs now.
Thankyou Martin and good luck to all you who are just starting or are in the process of reclaiming. Get every penny back that you can from the thieves!
  • Hi, just to let you know I will be recieving another £4600 from MBNA - as before NO agencies involved, just some time and postage stamps. For me the Noddle website worked.

Its got to be worth a try for anyone who does not have any paper work.

    Good Luck!
  • Hi, just waiting for reply back from Barclays. Week 6 now, and have had no correspondence since questionnaires where returned. Had not read this forum when filled in form, and am now concerned that I did not support my application enough. I am a public sector worker and basically ppi would of been worthless as would of received sick pay. Put this in my form, but concerned not enough. Any success stories out there who had a similar complaint
    Thanks
  • Hi, we have just had a letter back to say our Lloyds TSB Loan PPI claim will not be upheld due to lack of evidence. We have claimed on the basis that the advisor did not go into detail about the ppi and my partner (whose claim/loan it is) would have received full sickness pay from work for 6mths and redundancy if it had occured. What evidence can we submit to back this up? Would a copy of his contract at the time be sufficent?
  • i had 3 CC accounts with MBNA years ago 2 off which are on a arrangement the other paid off but i sent of 3 complaints to them the one that i had paid came back with a photocopy of the agreement and that i had ticked the box so knocked back.

another came back saying it will be investigated and then another letter saying they are willing to refund £7.450 happy days but still owe them 4K would of thought they would off paid that off then given the remainder.

the other card came back and they said its was the bank of scotland account but they will rufund from when they took the account on and then recieved a cheque for £1499 but still owe them 2.5k on that account still wondered why they didnt just pay the accoutn of from that

but still got a tesco card to get a response from
wish i didnt have a life yrs ago!! i wouldnt have been this poor
  • Hi to you all,

I am a new forum user, have been a lurker for a couple of months and decided to have a bash after Martin was on BBC radio 2.

Firstly, apologies for the long email.

Secondly, I'm appalling at keeping paperwork so I have no back up on any previous cards or loans before I start the complaint.

I started sending over standard letters to Amex and HSBC (my current account who I know I’ve had 2 loans in the past and a credit card)

Amex came back straight away to say no ppi on my account so i've just accepted

HSBC, excellent, they sent the form for me to fill out in less than a week with references for 3 loans (not 2!) and the credit card, dutifully filled this out and returned the same day, fingers crossed.

Last week I thought I would try Lloyds TSB, my account was closed account back in 2002, I knew I had a couple of loans so I thought I would try as nothing to loose.

    So today, I received 5 separate letters…

Letter 1 - dated 16th August with no reference number
Unfortunately I am unable to trace a loan held by you with us under the reference you have supplied, I have also searched the database and cannot trace any previous loans held with us

Letter 2 - dated 17th August with a reference number
I refer you to you recent complaint relating to the mis-sale of PPI on your loan. I am sorry the situation has occurred, blah blah… In order for me to continue with my investigation could you please provide me with a valid loan account number

Letter 3 - dated 17th August with a different reference number, no mention if this is a credit card or loan
We have used the information you provided with your complaint and having done this, we have established that you did not take out a PPI policy with the account, which you quoted for your complaint.

Letter 4 – dated 20th August with a new different number, same as above but says further down that they will also be investigating Loan Protection and Card Services separately…

Letter 5 – dated 17th August with a different reference number and 4 loans references (one dating back pre 1995, before TSB merged with Lloyds)
We are now gathering information and documentation relevant to your complaint to assess it further….

I called the TSB ppi number and without getting any sense on why there have been 5 separate letters and all contradicting each other, I find I have 4 loans being investigated (!!) and that my credit card complaint is still open and they will investigate futher if I can get the card number from my local branch.

My only point for this very long post (if anyone is still reading) that I do believe there might be more to it when some people are saying it’s a lottery, unless I had received letter 5 I might have given up.

Anyways, thanks to Martin & team and good luck to everyone too

    JB

    Hi all

Haven't been around lately, as school holiday's and kids need entertaining. Back in June I had my PPI compaint for Lloyds credit card's rejected and the standard letter sent asking for any further information as apparently they tried to ring me twice, but got no answer!

I sent a letter back with a bit more evidence but nothing to make me think they will change my mind.

However, I had a 'light bulb' moment last week and realised I had a medical condition (it does go back to 1990 so was a while back). I rung my Dr's to get the dates of when I was diagnosed which was 5 months before I applied for my credit card and then 3 years later with my condition not improving and getting worse I had a 4 hour operation and 5 weeks convalesing at home.

I now realise that 1) I was not asked about any pre existing conditions when I applied for my cc (I was 19 at the time) and the insurance would not have paid out when I required it at the time of my op.

I have rung Lloyds and spoke to Manilla people (arrgghh!) and thought best to email the PPI customer relations team with my new evidence.

What do you think are my chances of it now being upheld? Is a pre existing medical condition reason being successful?

Thanks if you have lasted this long on my post :D
