  • Only posted yesterday to say I was starting my journey yet I have somehow managed to get my first rejection already!
I made a call to House of Fraser on 8th August to ask about their complaints process. I only spoke to the call centre - no details were taken. He tried to pass me to complaints but came back to advise I would receive a letter. I asked don't they need some information but he said they would contact me.
I expected to receive a questionnaire or letter explaining what I needed to do. Imagine my surprise to receive a letter informing me an internal investigation had found no claim and it was their final answer & to go to the FLA!!!
My question is do I go back to them with the questionnaire and full information or wait 8 weeks & go to FOS or go to FOS now. The reason I ask is because its quite obvious they aren't attempting to investigate individual cases they just sending out standard rejection letters. There was even a bit in the letter about what I claimed had happened during in the application and that there was no proof !!! How professional.

I had a reply from Barclaycard who listed the thirteen reasons why I thought the policy was mis-sold, but then told me that -

    i) As I applied via post, I would have had to tick a box saying I wanted PPI

ii) They have reviewed the documentation at the time (1994!) and it adequately explains the t&c of their PPI.

Consequently, they felt they had covered themselves and would not be refunding the PPI charges. They said if I was unhappy with this decision, I could try the Obudsman.

Is there any point pursuing this further given the above?

This is exactly the approach the Royal Bank of Scotland took with me. Except that the form was completed in branch by an officer of the Royal Bank of Scotland, who ticked the box and told me that's what I should do. In addition the instruction beside the box said "We strongly reccommend that you take this insurance". Which I think in anyone's language is the bank advisding me to take the insurance. Anyway, I've decided to put the matter in the hands of the Ombudsman. I'll keep you informed.

A written recommendation is not "advice"!

Can you prove you took out this insurance in branch? Unfortunately, if the documents show you used a postal application then that will be the end of your complaint.

"Hi , Firstly thanks to all for supporting my girlfriends ppi claims which so far have given her £600.

A Question I have is I have been with Barclays bank over many years and possibly paid ppi on loans around 10 to 15 years ago with them. I have no records of anything but is it worth a speculative letter, if so is there a template ?

Thanks in advance even if the answer is No ! ".

    Yes- definitely worth a go.
I sent an email to my bank(First Direct), asking if I had ever had PPI on my credit card. They confirmed I had not, but alerted me to the fact that I had had PPI on 2 loans in the past.
I had not made any enquiry about loans.

My partner phoned Lloyds Bank, asked if they had any records of PPI on her accounts and the Bank said they would look into it. Shock horror ! About 6 weeks later she found £2 1/2 grand credited to her account. Moral - always worth a punt...

I'm in the same position - it's so annoying when you hear that other banks have managed to keep the statements/agreement details of their customers going back from the late 1990s, but Barclays fob us off with only keeping data for the last 6 years. I've sent 4 letters to them asking for documentation to show that my data before 2006 has been destroyed - last letter sent last week. I refuse to give up

Really Barclays are fobbing you off?
Banks only have to keep the data for 6 years, have you kept all your statements? If you are really that annoyed spend £10 and get a SAR this will tell you exactly what they have on record about you.

  • Well to say l am over the moon is the understatement of the year.I had a claim in for a Credit Card that was successful and paid me out £2900.At the same time l claimed for a loan that had been consolidated 8 times:eek:.The claims were put in over the phone never filled in any forms just answered a few questions.Had the eight week wait then a letter saying they needed another eight weeks.Rang yesterday to enquire how things were going and was told my claim had been upheld and a letter was posted yesterday.Couldn't remember the exact total but it was £14k something.
  • I claimed for myy PPI on a bank loan i had with HSBC. I first got the load when i was 18 going back over 10 years now! Over the following 6-7 years i got more loans to pay off the loan and to have a bit of extra cash. In total i had 6 loans with HSBC (all paid off now!!!).

I spoke to the bank on the phone, no paperwork, just 6 weeks later i recieved a letter offering me £4061!!

    done. Good luck everyne!!!!

Thanks for the reply. The bank very helpfully sent me a copy of the application form. I suppose a handwriting expert could prove that I didn't fill the form in, but whether it could be proved that it was done in branch is another matter. Oh well...
