I've worked out my repayment amount, so thought I would share my story properly
    • What were you reclaiming: PPI on a Graduate loan
    • Who was the provider: HSBC
    • How much did you get back: £2353.00
    • Did you get it back after a letter or did you go to the Financial Ombudsman: Letter using the template here
    • And then write your brief reclaim tale
unfortunately I lost a lot of paperwork in a housefire, including my original loan agreement. I rang HSBC who sent me a copy of my original loan agreement, and I used this to prepare the questionnaire. The basis for my claim was front loaded PPI and mis-sold through lack of need for PPI cover due to my job and then personal circumstances. I was sold the loan face to face in a branch. I ahve received this money back, almost ten years to the day since I originally took it out, so I am delighted to receive this financial bonus all these years on :)

Should i call them back and explain that i am moving abroad and if possible if they could speed it up or do you think that would make them put the brakes on so they dont have to pay me?
It will take as long as it takes, I'm afraid. They have eight weeks to investigate and provide a full and final response. No point in sending them any request to move more quickly.
There are people with complaints referred to the Ombudsman which are still not adjudicated after a year or more!
You'll just have to accept that these complaints may not be resolved until after you've moved.
I'm sure you'll still be able to cash any cheque they eventually send.
  • Hello all,

Just been notified that Barclaycard have rejected by claim against PPI on my Goldfish credit card started in 1997.

Spoken to them today and they are sending me the form I filled in at the time showing that I ticked the box for PPI.

    To quote them:
"We have identified that your application for PPI was submitted by post. At the point of applying for PPI, as no advice was given the process required you to select the specific type of cover you required.

In addition, we have conducted a review of the documentation you viewed during the sale. We are satisfied that the documentation presented accurately described scope of the policy, and was sufficient to provide you with all of the information necessary to inform you of the terms and conditions of the policy."

I dispute that the information provided was suitable and I will be taking the claim to the ombudsman.

It's very difficult to accuse a lender of mis-selling on a "non-advised" sale like this one. You filled in the application form of your own volition. I doubt very much that FOS will uphold your complaint that the information provided was inadequate or unsuitable. In this situation you have mis-bought, not been mis-sold.

Either way, you'll wait for a year or more for a decision from the Ombudsman.

  • Capital One really have no idea what they're doing, do they? About a month ago I got a final refusal from them, by letter, which I then passed onto the FoS. That was that, I thought, won't be hearing any more about that for several months at least. This morning I got another letter from Capital One, apologising that they have not been able to resolve my complaint and letting me know that they'll get back to me within 4 weeks.

I'm looking forward to what they decide, obviously. But it did raise in my mind the question of whether the first letter, the refusal, was in fact just a delaying ploy. Or could it be that Capital One are just useless? Has anyone else had this experience?

Thanks for the advice - I can see what you are saying and will let the forum know the result - whenever that may be!!!

I have been in contact with RBS regarding my old NatWest loans.
I called them Friday and was told an offer letter had been sent out on the 29th June.
I called them again yesterday to confirm this and was told once again the letter had been sent out on 29th June.
I asked if they could tell me how much the offer was for but they said they could'nt as they dont have access to that information.
How long have people waited for their offer letters to come?
I am moving abroad in 5 weeks and really would like this sorted before i leave.
I have claims in with Egg and HSBC too and after a call with them have found out they are investigating the issue.
Should i call them back and explain that i am moving abroad and if possible if they could speed it up or do you think that would make them put the brakes on so they dont have to pay me?

Maybe give each a call and explain the situation and give change of address details to see if any further letters can be sent there. I never hurts to give them a call, but they will take as long as they need but it will help put your mind at rest if they can forward any cheques etc. to you abroad.
