Just wanted to share my joy after receiving my settlement letter today from MBNA. I took out my credit card some 12 years ago over the phone and was never given the option to opt out of PPI. After realising a year later it had been applied to my account, I called MBNA to request it be removed. This never happened ! To my embarrassment, I went for a long long time not checking my statements and paying the minimum amount on a balance of around £8000. After seeing adverts on TV recently saying they could get back my PPI premiums I thought great, let's give it a go. But only after seeing your websites great advice on raising a complaint myself i completed the form and sent it off to MBNA. In short, it took just over 6 weeks and I have just received a settlement offer for £14,487 ! I really couldn't be happier. Take it from me, you guys really know your financial onions !!! A heartfelt thank you from my family and I.
Well done!! this is the same as my hubby situation and we're going through a claim at the mo!

  • Hi. We just had a letter from the black horse, telling us they dont have enough info (we have no details of account numbers etc). When I phoned them, they tell me its because details are not on their live system from the 2004 origin - - - and we must provide an account number for them to proceed. Having left the Uk in 2008, we destryed all unnecessary paperwork - - bank states, loans stuff, and the like. Any ideas what to do now - - or do we just accept their take on it all?

Should I still send lloyds letter before I do anything else with fos?

I would, give them chance to look at this again, you never know :)
Keep a copy of the letter so you can send this to FOS if you need to.

    Hello Everone on MSE Forums,

I just wanted to say a MASSIVE thank you to the people that give such great advice.

After coming onto the website and completing a questionnaire. Natwest (RBSgroup) have paid me back my PPI total - £3750. They responded in the 8 weeks and paid me within 3 days of accepting the offer.

I am now waiting to hear back from the nationwide, fingers crossed!

Again, thank you all so much! :-)

What reasons did they give for not upholding and what reasons for both did you use for the mis sell?.

You should still be able to access your credit file, this goes back 6 years, see if you can get this, if you can there should be the last 4 digits of the accounts, you can use these.

That's plainly unacceptable. I suspect you'd be better taking this to FOS now, as the Bank don't seem to be making any movement at all. I understand you are reluctant to do this because of the time-scale, but are you (or they?) just delaying the inevitable?

Thanks moneyineptitude think your right time to go to the FOS...
  • What else can I say, other than a massive thank you to MSE! Friends directed me to the website and from reading all about PPI, I followed the advice and sent off the relevant form:

For the cost of 4 first class stamps.......
Lloyds TSB are due to send me a cheque for a staggering £17,200! I still can't believe how much I (stupidly) paid in PPI payments over the years for the loans that I had with them.
    Egg - £7,280 (loans)
    Halifax - £240 (credit card)
    RBS - £1,980 (credit card)

Settlements were either received or promised within 8 weeks of my initial complaint.

I'm still in shock! If you've not already done so, follow the advice and send off your claim if you think you've been mis-sold PPI.
  • I took a loan out in Feb 2002, to buy a car. To make a long story short it was to buy a car for my ex to use. He was a very clever (and it turned out abusive man) and when i left i was left with lots of debts. I have managed to pay off most of them was just left with the car loan which i took out through Northern Rock.

I was on a debt management plan and it was only when they brought it to may attention i became aware that i had PPI on this loan. I looked at this website, got the forms to complain and sent them off.

I got a string of "thanks for your complaint letters" and thought this is going nowhere. Then this morning I got a letter from Northern Rock.

They are removing the PPI part of the loan which reduces the loan from £5,825.57 to £2,096.03. They are refunding the PPI i have paid, which is £2325.09. They are also refunding the interest at £1,496.80. This means that there is enough refund to completely clear the debt and there is £1700 to be refunded to me.

On top of all that this means that i am now completelt debt free.:T
