I am a long time reader of this forum and finally plucked up courage to reclaim PPI i was missold way back in 2000
Thanks to all of you for the masses of advice and encouragement that you post for each other.. I found it very helpful when waiting and am now proud to say I have received back over £12000 and am still waiting for Barclaycard to respond to my final claim outstanding

I have been able to clear a whole load of debt and now have money left each month in my wages to live a happy life.
God bless you all and thank you Martin for helping us get our lives back to some kind of normal

P.S. I didn't use a claims company, I did it myself and encourage everyone to do it the same way.
Thanks to all who post here:beer:

I got divorced recently and as a result bank accounts were closed etc. Over the last 20 years I had four bank loans and hearing that LTSB were now having to contact people for mis-selling I thought they would miss me out - account closed is an easy excuse.

So I wrote to them with my new details and giving details of my old account - no loan numbers but just asking to investigate. I got a reply with a complaint number.

I logged in to my online account today to see £1200 has been credited to me. PPI letter arrived also and they said that the age mean they could not investigate further but the average payout of £1200 seemed approrpiate.

I'm not taking further and happy to pay of a small part of a very large debt left over from the past - thanks Martin, team and forum contrinbutors for the motivation.

Two other PPI's being tested with LTSB and Halifax - little expected however!

    :T

    Excellent!:T
That is also the standard offer from Lloyds as well (£1200), that they offer everyone in the same position if lack of details due to the accounts being too old for them to have kept all the data.

    Well done!;)

  • I took out a substantial loan with Santander (then Abbey) to consolidate my debts.

I wrote to Santander at the end of March 2012 requesting a copy of my original agreement & enclosing a cheque for £1 as advised on MSE. I received no response from Santander so I called the Financial Ombudsman on 28th April 2012, they agreed to write to Santander on my behalf. Yesterday I came home to a letter from Santander offering to reimburse me the value of the PPI and interest - a grand total of £3, 239!

I am also persuing a claim with RBS who have so far sent me two very strongly worded letters in an attempt to discourage my claim. Following the letter from the Financial Ombusdman RBS sent a very polite letter to say they were investigating my claim.

My advice to anyone thinking of making a claim - do! You have nothing to lose and quite possibly a lot to gain. I can't praise MSE and the Financial Ombudsman enough.

all praise due to the financial ombudsman - i have started a claim against my (now retired) FA after being told my wife and I required PPI insurance to secure our first mortgage. Having been through the claim over the phone with the ombudsman they are writing on my behalf to the company our FA represented - we await a response but expect a 4 digit sum!!!

if it wasnt for the ombudsman I wouldnt have had a clue who to persue to this, I had been going in circles for over a month as the mortgage company our out of business and the FA had retired without trace.

onto the FSCS for the Space Kitchens PPI now. Oh how nieve I have been, I feel robbed but look forward to my refunds and some form of justice!!

cant recomend enough using the ombudsman service, they kept it simple and straight forward and I now feel alot more confident in getting my claim settled.
  • Hi - not posted before but wanted to share my success story regarding my PPI Claim against EGG bank on a loan I took out in 2004/2005.

The process was fairly simple, I sent an email to egg asking how to complain, in a few days they wrote to me enclosing a questionnaire which they wanted me to fill out with details of the loan etc and reason for my claim - I did this, and sent back enclosing my loan agreements and statements that I had kept.

It took 7 weeks to receive a reply - I was actually shaking as I opened the letter and was chuffed to receive a complete refund of my PPI! In total I was awarded £4,200. This includes the 8% interest added on.

Just waiting for the cheque now!!

Anyone in two minds about doing a claim - just go for it!
  • A huge thanks to Martin for the template letters and guide to reclaiming - and to everyone who posts here. It was a real encouragement to do it myself and it paid off :)

I complained to Bank of Scotland about PPI I'd taken out on a loan in 2004 that I was unable to claim on when I became temporarily unemployed. I had to restructure the loan to reduce monthly payments - this time without the PPI.

I initially asked for my original documentation (using the template letter) and realised it had been sold as a lump sum upfront, with interest which was then carried forward to the second loan. I was seething! I'd really been struggling to cover the cost of my postgraduate studies at the time.

I made my complaint and within a few weeks received an offer letter. I verbally accepted and then received cheques totalling £6002. 67 a few weeks later :beer:

No need to go to the Ombudsman and no 25% cut going to a broker.

All PPI and interest refunded. If you think you have a good case, I really encourage you to make a complaint and get back your money.

    Thanks again, Martin

  • hi hope i am doing this right. could do with a bit of advice please. i applied to yorkshire bank for my ppi refund and received a letter back saying due to time scale they could not do anything but if i could provide more information they would look into my claim further. I replied to them filling out ombudsman questionnaire and including copies of the loan book that showed the amount of PPI i paid. the final loan we had was in 2002 which was paid off in 2004 we had 3 loans in total from 1994 until 2002 each one consolidated the previous. the ppi was front loaded and we were told at the time we could not have the loan without it. My question is when i sent back to them i gave them 14 days to reply this is now up and wondered if this means they are not looking into it further and i should just send questionnaires to ombudsman or give them a bit longer as i have had no acknowledgment at all. Any help appreciated thankx
