    Hi Shirley

I take it that your a basic rate tax payer? If so then it will be taxed at 20%, if your not a tax payer you do not pay it (as far as i am aware).
If your a higher tax payer then they take a little more, but before you just automatically send the payment, I believe you contact the HMRC first.
Then they will confirm how much, so you can tell them you prefer to get it done with by sending the cheque.

I take it then that the business have not automatically deducted the tax?
With some they do but they should confirm so in the letter you received.
Below I will post some details that I received with a letter.

Please bear with me to post it though lol. X

Thanks for this. Yes, I am a basic rate tax payer. The companies have not paid the tax so I am liable. Should I contact the HMRC and ask who to send the cheque to? I know that it is 20% of the 8% interest. I have worked out how much I owe them so I'm just waiting to find out what department, if any, I should send the cheque to and to whom I should make it payable.

Hi, I was wondering if anyone could give me a bit of advice. I put in a complaint regarding MPPI on a mortgage I had between 2005 2007. I received a letter back saying that I did not have the MRC element of my cover but had Life Cover and Critical Illness cover so therefore could not not complain about PPI. It goes on to say that if I should want to complain about the other elements of my policy to contact them. I did have another Life cover policy at that time but was made to believe that I had to take it or I would not get my mortgage. Do you think I could make a successful claim for this reason? The only problem is that I do not have proof of my other Life cover from then. Thanks

    Hi there
That is correct that it is a different matter to that of PPI, and you can write a letter of complaint with your reasons of why you want them to refund your premiums.
You need to make it clear that when the policy was sold to you, you already had one in place, because you were informed that if you did not accept this actual policy, then you would not get the mortgage (that is what you were informed).

Any other cover you were paying for, you should find the details of the business name (lender) and account number on banking statements of where you paid for by direct debit.

    Hope this helps, good luck.

Well, I've received my offer from Lloyds who have upheld my complaint. I'm happy with what I have received bearing in mind that the loans were from the 90's.

I would like to thank Martin and everyone who contributes on this site. The info provided is invaluable and clearly is making a difference for so many people.

I do have a few questions re my claim if anyone could assist. As stated, some of my loans date back to the early 90's into early 2000's. The only info I have of the loans are the account numbers, dates as well as amounts (apart from the very first loan in 1993) I have checked the breakdown of the 4 loans I had and have noted the following:

For the most recently closed loan I have received a fair sum of money i.e. they obviously have full details of the loan and PPI etc. Interestingly, I have been offered the standard £1200 for 2 earlier loans compared to the most recent loan. One of these loans was settled using the most recent loan (the one where I received a fair amount for) hence I rolled the previous loan into this one. For the oldest loan, I have been offered a sum of a couple of hundred pounds.

I have 3 questions re the above:

    1) How can Lloyds have information re my oldest loan (the one where I have received a few hundred pounds) and not the 2 loans subsequent to this?
    2) If one of the loans where I have been paid £1200 was paid off with the newer loan, would this affect anything re my claim?
    3) Am I able to query specifics as to how they came to their calculations by ringing them up (I'm intrigued by how they came to the figure re my oldest loan!)?

All in all, I am more than happy with my claim amount. All I am wanting to make sure about is whether I'm not missing a trick re my circumstances. I acknowledge that I have no specific details re my loans such as PPI payment amounts etc so to that end I am again grateful for the claim amount received.

Many thanks in advance for any replies.

    HI All

    £2642.87 yey!!:j

Another one done, though not 100% if need to call them.

Had my upheld letter dated 2nd May stating full refund, associated interest etc etc and advising that I will have a cheque within the next 14 days.

However on Saturday I had another letter dated 3rd May stating we are sorry for the delay in your case blah blah we aim to have a decision by 31st May???

I am hoping this is just an automated letter as the one dated 2nd has a full breakdown and that the cheque will be made out to me etc etc and sent within 14 days?

any thoughts or anyone had similar:cool:

    Hi Amersall

Thank you for your advice. Much appreciated. Do we challenge the lender or go through the FOS from here? Our letter stated that unless Nationwide hear from us, they will consider their decision final, but we have the right to use the FOS if we choose to.

Yes, but we were talking about situations where people have closed accounts or re-paid loans over six years old.

With a SAR, Banks and lenders are required by law to provide any information they may hold.

My accounts were also closed and have been since between 2005 and 2007. Probably just lucky that they had the info

    Hi honey, hope your well.:j:j

I am going to share a success of mine while I am here.

Not exactly PPI related but this is in regards of a terms critical assurance.
Will not go into full detail, but I wrote to the bank over a month ago, as I found some paperwork of this cover but already had one in place which was cheaper yet far suitable for me, and yet when we mortgaged with them (I had to accept it), the paperwork helped, and there is another 3 where this came from .
Received the letter a few days ago, and they are refunding all paid, plus interest (which they already deducted the basic 20%), plus a little extra compo for the distress and inconvenience.:beer:
    :j:j That is brilliant :j congrats :T:A

Go back to the lender as they have said you can and see if you get any joy, if you don't then go to FOS.
