'I would like to confirm that Account cover was not sold in store It was applied following a telephone conversation that you had 14 may 2001. The policy is called Account cover and comprised of price, purchase and payment protection. It was sold to you over the telephone by one of our advisers who explained the main features of the product and the price. The insurance was added to your account because you chose to do so. Since the insurance has been clearly shown on your statements you could have cancelled or a claim made at any time.
If you remain dissatisfied with our response you may refer to FLA.
Should you require any further information please contact my number below.'
Not having much luck at moment.

so far i have had positive results from:-

£2646 from lloyds for a loan dating back to 2001
£459 from mbna for a virgin CC dating back to 2002
£478 from santander for a cahoot CC dating back 2002

rejection letters from 2 lloyds tsb CC which i have replied to informing them i would like them to investigate further or else i will be forwarding onto the FOS

    still awaiting on

    Egg and Mbna and Halifax

i know it is a cliche but i really couldnt have done any of this without the help of this forum and its amazing members!!

and to anyone who is thinking of using a claims company to do the work for them. please think long and hard before doing so. the forms are really easy to fill out and there is a wealth of knowledge on here and people who know how are always on hand to help out
  • At last received my renewed offer from Santander, I received an offer for £4000 in January but wasnt for all payments I had made, so I disputed this, they wrote to me and said I wasnt getting anymore unless I could prove the payments (which I could and did) and today received my new offer of £6630.66. So glad I stood my ground and very very happy :)
  • hello
this is my first post and hope that someone out there can help. i have had a mbna credit card since 1997 which i had in response to a magazine advertisement.
i have apparently been paying ppi all this time and only became aware that it was optional when this scam was given news.
i have put my claim in the hands of a ppi claimback company who, today have phoned to tell me mbna have rejected my claim using the reason that i ticked the box.
they have not, however sent any proof of this to the company, who are going to contest the rejection, and refer the complaint to the ombudsman if mbna do not reconsider.
i strongly disagree with mbna regarding the tick, as i would have gotten sick pay from the company i was working for at the time had i been off ill, as i would have with the company i went to work for a few years later.
i was out of work for 2 years a few years ago, and had i have known about the ppi i would have used it then surley? but no i didnt because i knew nothing about it or what it was or, how to use it!!!!!
can anyone offer any hope/advice/light at the end of the tunnel? i must have paid 100's of pounds for them to rip me off
    help please:(

    Had reply today.

'Having checked your account details.I can confirm Account cover. I have enclosed a copy of your credit Agreement.
I note that you say that you were not told that the policy was optional when it was taken out in 07 September 2002, but I also note that the process that we had in place was to make it clear that it was not compulsory. I can confirm that on the agreement you signed it required you to sign if you required Account cover which you did.You could have cancelled after 30 days.
In relation to your reference to the sales process in store there was no requirement upon us to record sales process and so we have no way of knowing what took place. However if any of the matters that you suggest took place you would have been able to call at any time in the first 30 days and we would have removed the insurance from your account. Since the insurance has been clearly shown on your statements you could have cancelled at any time.
I can find no evidence of mis-selling therefore I am unable to refund the premiums.
If you remain dissatisfied with our responce refer complaint to FLA'

Not going well with our claims.

Hi, i had exactly the same response, FLA were hopeless and it's now with FOS.
  • Hi, I received a letter from Lloyds yesterday offering me what I thought was too much money back. I complained about a loan I took out in 2001 for £10,000 and which I paid back about four months later...obviously received early settlement fees! I had only paid about four payments(inc. was PPI at £50 per month that I did not need or had not consented too as I was not employed at the time and in receipt of a very good private pension...hence making PPI useless!)Their offer was nearly £2,000!! ...thinking they had got it wrong I puzzled over it for the day and did not get 'happy' until I realised they had refunded me the early settlement fee charged when I paid off the loan plus interest and other smaller amounts related to the early settlement. Happy Happy Happy!!!! All in less than 8 weeks.
I did originally make a claim for a credit card PP taken at same time...they refused the claim saying they felt I needed the PPI because of low income!!! Does not equate, so have written asking them to review again and awaiting reply, especially so as I tried to cancel PPI few years back and was told it was part of having the card! Do not understand how they can give me a loan and say one thing and give me a credit card and say something else...same circumstances applied for both! Awaiting result...but thank you for all the help on MSE..great website.

    Thanks again amersall.
We have just been looking again at statement we took loan out in Feb 01 £10,000 over 60 months we repaid early in Aug 02. Cannot get figures to add up with loan amount and interest there is £1,200 adrift so will contact them Mondy and ask for copy of credit agreement.

I would, you need the agreement as this will show if PPI was paid, good luck.

Thank you so much amersall! I shall definitely try and claim then.

You know, I'm still none the wiser - I have no idea what you're talking about with phrases such as "you would get a small rebate of the PPI and the remainder would still be on the loan to term end with interest". So even if they HAD told me these things, I probably wouldn't have understood! :(

:D This is why this is the most upheld of all PPI reclaims ;)
Good luck and keep us posted.

Thanks again amersall. I need your brain inside my head :rotfl::rotfl:
With both santander cards they refer me to FLA. Why not FOS?
The FLA deal with store cards and other consumer credit, they are as much use as a chocolate fire guard to be honest, write back and ask for the recording, if you do not get any joy then put the complaint into FOS make sure you enclose copies of letters from Santander.

:rotfl: you would not be happy if my brain were in your head :D trust me :rotfl:

This is why we do not advocate claims co on this site, you pay them for claiming back any redress and you have to do all the "work" and the banks ripped you off and now the claims co will do the same, you could have put the claim and when you got the rejection could have replied to MBNA stating what you put above about not knowing you could claim on the PPI when you were off work, you will have to tell the claims co to put this in the letter of rejection, why are you paying them a % plus Vat?, I hope you know that Vat goes on top? this is the long way round when you could have replied to the rejection by now and you get the response back to you and no middle man making the process longer than it has to be.

The fact you did not make a claim when you could have suggests that you had no idea what the PPI was for, this may make them change their minds re the rejection, If I were you I would get proof that you were off work and show that you could have claimed but did not, this can only help you.

I am not having a go at you for using a claims co that is your choice, just letting you know how easy this is to DIY for free.
