PPI Reclaiming successes and failures

Had a reply back from First Direct, for PPI on our Credit card (going back to 2003). They informed us that they will not refund the PPI as we had manually ticked a box on the documentation that was sent to us after applying online. Although a copy of the document was sent to us, we cannot recall that we had added this. (This could have been ticked by anyone)!
They have also advised that as we have had the PPI coming off the account, and that it showed on the statements. We would have been able to see the charge & that this would have given us "many opportunities" to make sure this was still required.
The statements never stated PPI - only BP premium costs. To be honest, don't think we ever knew what that was for and just thought it was an extra credit card charge. (This happens when you don't take charge of your finances properly) *Blagh*:(
Does anyone know if there is any hope of getting anything back by going via the Ombudsman?0 -
had an mbna credit card from approx 1998 i ticked the box asking for ppi to be added but when i made a claim in 2000/2001 ish after hurting my back they wouldnt pay out i tried to cancel the ppi after getting back to my work but was told that i would be better with it incase i had another illness
my marks and spencer ppi paid out as did my mortgage protection and car loan ppi
i recently sent a ppi complaint form to mbna and have just received their reply saying that as i asked for the ppi to be added i wasnt entitled to anything back and if i wanted to appeal through the fsa a leaflet was enclosed
is it worth appealing? :mad:0 -
After emailing Bob Diamond about the length of time it as taken for complaints about 2 cc (1 egg now barclaycard) came home to letter today re Egg card saying that they cannot find a policy in my name therefore complaint can't be upheld. If I can find paperwork, policy number etc tey will investigate but if not to view tis as a final response. Would a SAR show up PPI payments and include statements even though they were viewed online
Haven't heard from 2nd claim but do ave policy number for this so will email Mr Diamond again tonight (cc complaint I received answer for was sent in after this 1 and have policy number)0 -
Hi,
I put my claim in last week and just rang again to acknowlege as i havent received a letter yet, i have been informed it is in the post.
The reasons i have given are as follows:-
1. PPI was definately front loaded and charges at 26.5% on loan 1, 21.9% on loan 2 and 21.4% on loan 3.
2. I am a local government employee so have good sickness benefits i.e. 6m full pay 6m half pay, good redundency package and an excellent pension which includes death payment. i explained this to them but i was told it wasn't really sufficient cover and recommended PPI.
3. I was informed i would have a better chance of being approved should i take out the PPI.
So......i knew i had taken the PPI but was definately led to beleive i needed it as i didnt have suffient cover otherwise...what do you guys think?
Oh and i would advise to write a letter rather than ring as the ladies i have spoken to didnt speak very good english and misinterpreted what i was trying to say......bare in mind everything said in the phonecall is evidence of your claim. i dnt think i will be approved but we shall see.

I notice we now have a 'part 5' in the PPI Reclaiming Discussion thread... please can we have a part 2 in this thread and then stick to reporting successes & failures as the title suggests? There seem to be so many questions (including this one I guess) and we have to trawl through them to see what we actually come to this thread to read!DEBT FREE BY 60Starting Debt 21st August 2019 = £11,024

Its thanks to this forum & the help & encouragement from Dilus & Amersall you both brill. I hope everyone that has claims in gets redress , if i can do it anyone can . I have yet to hear from a few more claims cc i hope i am as lucky with them.:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:0

Yes I have noticed this also, it makes me wonder if most people are getting paid. No such luck for me though.Sent in original claim to Lloyds TSB Oct 11, received acknowledgement letter end of Nov along with at least 7 others addressed to other customers! Claim upheld 17th Jan, no payment received as yet. I have contacted them on several occasions and have now been told a recalculation letter was sent last Thurs (which I haven't received)and that I should receive payment within 21 days. I won't hold my breath! It's quite soul destroying checking your account on a daily basis only to be disappointed. I'll be amazed if they do refund me!0

The reason my ppi claim on my credit card was upheld is due to me being self employed for over 20 years
The calculations of my claim are as follows.
This is a final response from the Halifax.
Refund of premiums =£1,721.45
Refund of interest =£2,384.56
Interest at 8% =£686.49
Total =£4,792.50
Just a final update with my claim..
Made my ppi claim over the telephone with the halifax on 27 Jan, I recived a letter upholding my claim on Friday 24th Feb and guess what? I recived the cheque today Feb 29th!!
How quick was that! :T Happy days:beer:0
