Hi everyone, I'm in the process of trying to reclaim HSBC PPI on a loan which was mis-sold, was having a quick read through for some success stories and seems that all those I came across had their claims upheld after only the first letter. I have just been rejected and am preparing to write again but am feeling a little dejected now! Does anyone have any experience of having to contest the first decision with HSBC to make me feel better? Thanks x

hi there i had rejection letter end of january after full 8 weeks were up, was so gutted!ive sent another letter to them asking them to look at this again and stating dates/times id spoke to hsbc about signing for ppi i didnt want.
i sent an email via internet banking and they said they recieved this 18th feb so waiting ona response now,its worth a try though isnt it! like everyone says they wil try and fob you off if they can! will keep you posted xx

Hope someone can help me - I sent off the first template letter for PPI reclaiming as I was self employed when I took out loans with HSBC in Sept 2002, May 2003 and March 2006.They have denied refunds as they say they sent a Policy Document with two of the loans and they sent me a copy of the Insurance Sales Acknowledgement Slip I signed for the other loan. They confirmed I would have been covered for involunary unemployment if I met the required criteria in the Policy Document.
Should I now send off the second letter as they do not mention this is their 'final response', however I do not have any further information I can submit with the second letter. Or should I go straight to the FOS?
(HSBC did respond within eight weeks - Jan 19 to March 6)
    Thanks to everyone

I would write to them again, because what you received was a basic standard fob off response.

Write back and tell them you want them to reconsider, if this is not resolved you will consider taking this further.

Keep on at them until you receive the final response, they should let you know when its the final letter and enclose details of the FOS with a leaflet.

However as its 8 weeks you can still go for the FOS if you want to, please bear in mind the FOS have a huge number of these complaints and you may have to wait a while before your case gets moves on to an adjudicator, but of course if your suffering with any financial hardship, let the FOS know the same time on the complaints form.

Hopefully though if you write the 2nd letter to the company, try to give a few stronger points and tell them you are not satisfied with the outcome form the first response and whatever reasons you gave them on the first letter, just try to add a little more of an explanation to them in more details if you can.;)

Good luck and post anytime for more help.

I had PPI with Halifax Credit Card which I only realized it was insurance after reading this wesite, I always thought it was interest in the amount I owed.

I downloaded the letters sent it to Halifax and just received the final answer that they will give me the following amounts:

Refund of premiums to date: £3134.85
    Interest charged on premiums: £1536.75
    Compensatory interest at 8%: £622.06

    Total: £5293.66

I am very happy to get my money back. Thanks Martin!!!

Hi, how long did it take them from sending you the letter to say they were going to repay your ppi, to you actually getting the figures they were paying and then getting your cheque? i have been waiting two weeks now and hevent heard anything else since.

    Hi there hun

I have been informed with mine that if I do not hear anything within 28 days from the offer (by the FOS) is to get in touch with them.
I think 28 days is the norm, however maybe this can vary from company to company, hope you hear soon, good luck.;)

  • Hi everyone..

I am new to this...within my first letter that I had sent off to Abbey on the 4th March, i had sent them back a form regarding my old account number and the start and end of my mortgage dates.. recieved a call from Abbey 5th of March stating that they are looking into the matter and it will take 4wks,then yesterday recieved yet another letter concerning about my complaints.and would I complete and sign a Questionaire regarding about myself and personal circumstances i.e earnings and outgoings when I took out the policy..Surely with my old account number they would have my details when I took out my first mortgage and ppi..could anyone tell me if this is standed procedure..and do I fill in the forms and send them back..thanks
