What were you reclaiming: Mortgage PPI
Who was the provider: Santander nee Alliance & Leicester
How much did you get back: £5100
Did you get it back after a letter or did you go to the Financial Ombudsman: Letter
And then write your brief reclaim tale

Hi all

After reading about this PPI misselling issue, I decided months ago to chuck in a letter for the hell of it.

1997 - I bought a property with my then fiancee and took out a joint policy with Alliance and Leicester that was designed to cover our mortgage repayments in the event of accident, sickness or unemployment.

1999 - fiancee stopped being fiancee and the policy was put into my sole name along with everything else. I continued paying the premiums.

Early 2000s - I received a letter telling me Alliance and Leicester had transferred the policy to Cardiff Pinnacle.

2007 - I cancelled the policy.

2011 - I wrote to Santander, who had of course taken over Alliance and Leicester, using one of MSE's own template letters.

Santander wrote back with a PPI-reclaiming questionnaire which I completed and sent back.

Santander wrote back telling me they couldn't find any record of me having had a policy with Alliance and Leicester.

I contacted Cardiff Pinnacle who found me on their system and very obligingly sent me a copy of the original welcome letter I was sent after taking out the policy in 1997 - which had of course come from Alliance and Leicester.

Sent this to Santander. Santander sent me an acknowledgement and a holding reply.

Tonight - I have just come home to find a letter with an offer of £5100.

It's been like finding a carrier bag lying in the street with £5100 in it.

Hi the Huntress, WICKED NAME.I notice you have had a result with littlewoods if you dont mind me asking how far back did they go with payments and what kind of balances per month? i ask as i have submitted a claim with another catalogue some months paying £8.00 in ppi going back to 1997.I no longer have the account but lucky for me i had a number of statements a hoarder you see.CONGRATS ON ALLYOUR RESULTS SO FAR.

I had the account since about 2004 so I assume they went that far back. But it's very rare I use it and rarely ordered from it, when I did I would usually pay it off after a few months. Average monthly PPI was about £5 so for me a £100 was about right. The letter I got didn't have a full breakdown but did say that was all my premiums + 10% for my trouble.
I never thought after reading on here that I would be successful with Littlewoods as no one else had much joy. I will say they upheld it as the insurance would have been no use to myself.
Sorry I cant be more specific but hope i've helped.

Thank you for replying so quickly, we had some mortgages with the C & G and I think we paid exit fees. I feel a letter coming on. :)

Your welcome, good luck with that I cant see why you would have much problem in getting your fee back mine was a very standard letter saying that the true cost of a MEAF is actually about £50 and as a goodwill gesture they ort to reinburse me the difference, I actually got the lot back!!

Hi,

Just thought I'd let everyone know that even if you get a reject letter if it doesn't say that it is their final decision I'd follow it up because this happened to me with Nationwide. My original claim was rejected with loads of reasons as to why on a 3 page letter, however they were all rubbish excuses and I had a reply for each one of them, so fired off another letter basically stating I rejected their rejection with my reasons, once again, and also stating I'd go to the FOS - guess what - letter arrived yesterday saying that after another investigation they were upholding my complaint its only for about £300 but a win is a win, so even if they do reject you at first it's well woth going back to them.

I've also had wins from MBNA (sent form off with no cc number on it as I no longer have this card) - won and I'm getting £2000 off them.

I've also had a win off a Halifax CC (£2,100) and Lloyds TSB CC (£4,600), I didn;t even think I'd taken out the PPI with these so really didn't expect anything back - so even if you don't think you took it out it's worth putting a claim in because you never know.

I've also won a claim with Firstplus which was all settled before Xmas (£8,500) and also with Northern Rock (£3,000).

I've got an outstanding claim with Lloyds TSB for a loan and littlewoods catalogue - still waiting to hear off them.

I just thought I'd share this with you because I applied for mis sold PPI not thinking I would ever get anything back, but I did, even if you do get a reject letter it's worth following up and also if you don't have the ref numbers it's worth a try, although I think it does depend on the bank/company your dealing with as to whether they'll process it or not without the ref number.

Can anyone advise on the PPI payment procedure. I am waiting on LTSB who advised that interest would be calculated up to 18th November 2011 and 12th December respectively, but as usual no payment on either, and I am a LTSB customer.Do they have to pay interest after these dates and up to final payment date.Thanking all in anticipation.

In a word yes. They have to pay the 8% to the day they pay the claim to you.

• I noticed last year that my wife had a variable payment taken on her AA credit card every month that I didn't understand. Having read the articles on this site I asked her to call the AA and get them to explain what the payments were for. They confirmed that the payment was to protect her so that if she lost her job the outstanding balance would be paid off. She explained that she had not requested this insurance and as she is self employed it wouldn't have protected her anyway ! The person who took the call looked at the history and confirmed that the payments had been taken for several years

A complaint was raised with the AA during the call and we received a letter yesterday offering a final settlement of just over £6000 !

Thanks for highlighting this issue :j
