I sent off a letter to RBS to reclaim the PPI I had paid on an old graduate loan I had in 2004, more in hope than expectation as it was over 6 years.

Today I received a goodwill offer from them for just over £1500.

Thanks to Martin and everyone on the forums for your advice

    :j:j Well done
  • Quick update - posted back acceptance of offer to Tesco on 30th December. Cheque arrived today

When did you first write to them about claiming if you don't mind me asking? I'm waiting to hear back about a similar claim I made at the end of November with them. Thanks
  • Hi everyone on here,
Thank you for letting me observe your successes and failures over the last few months. I finally have something to sing and dance about. Yesterday I received payment for PPI I took out with a co-operative loan online in 2005. My enquiries began with a letter downloaded off this site on the 1st November, letter of redress received 21st December saying payment would be made within 20 working days. Payment was actually made into my current account within 12 working days (Christmas Hols considered.) :j The co-operative bank seem to have their system sorted and was no hassle to deal with. I am now awaiting responses from Egg (Barclaycard), MBNA, HSBC & RBS. All letters were sent on the same day so it just goes to show the differences in levels of service. Will keep everyone posted with progress through the journey.

  • Hi, we are struggling to get any further forward with our claim for mis-sold ppi with Northern Upholstery (DFS) on a suite we purchased in 1999 and paid over 3 years. We have found paperwork from First Direct stating that our first monthly payment will be taken by DD on 27.7.99 and spoke to DFS who say that they need copy statements from First Direct to prove that we did pay ppi. However, when we speak to First Direct and give them our account number they do not have our details and say that they never provided financial services to Northern Upholstery!! Confused.... We then spoke to DFS again who can find us on their system as purchasing a suite from them totalling £1370.00 in 1999 with ppi of £145.32 but they will not commence our claim further until we provide statements from our bank showing that we actually paid the monthly amount of £42.09 that would have included the ppi payment - until they receive them they will not do anything. We spoke to our bank who could find the payment on their system going back to the final payment in 2002 but we have to write to them to request copy statements at £5 each - now if they were monthly statements this will cost us £180 and if quarterly statements will cost us £60 to request copy statements. If the ppi payments we paid total £145.32 can someone please work out for me how much we will be entitled to get back (roughly) so that we can determine whether the claim is worth pursuing as it may cost us more in copy statements than we may get back (if anything). Does anyone know if banks (ours is the Halifax) are able just to print out payments made to one company rather than full statements? Thanks in advance. Di x

    Hi Di,
If the total PPI was £145.32 even with 8% standard interest added you would not get back £180 to cover the cost of the statements AND the 8% interest would be taxable:mad:
I would only pursue this if the statements were quarterly but how do you find out???????:(

Hi there, you need statements as proof that you actually paid ppi for the years you state, are you sure you dont have any?.

You could cross out the full and final, but you still need proof of the ppi paid to take this forward,FOS can tell you what you should do,give them a ring

Well done on your win, this is a nice amount
Thanks, i am really pleased as it has literally only taken one letter, but then it bugs me that i know i have paid PPI for all those years and yet i have to prove it. I know i haven't got any statements - i had a major clear out and got rid - typical, is there any possibility they WILL have older statements and that i can get hold of them?

Thanks again for your help, this is a great site and i wouldn't have had the confidence to make a claim without all this fab information.

    Hi joroberts165,
I think you will have to accept the fact that they do only have to keep records for 6 years and they have come up with a good figure. They may well have records going back further in deep and dark recesses in some archive somewhere but it's highly unlikely that they will ever see the light of day again, well done on the win :T:beer:
