PPI Reclaiming successes and failures

Martin Lewis - You are an absolute legend
Over the past 8 years we have had a number of loans with Barclays, all with PPI - We have paid them all, sometimes refinancing as life events required, the loans were for varying amounts and our latest one (for the last 4 years was just about 21,000)
We were told that we could not have this loan unless we took PPI as we would not be accepted - A classic miss sale!!!!
Taking advise from your brilliant website we decided not to use a claim company, but to approach Barclays directly. The letters were written and a number of phone calls to Barclays and a ping pong game of letters exposed not only the loans we we were sure were in the past six years, but a couple of smaller ones beyond that time period which we had forgotten about or thought were not able to be included.
Anyway time progressed (about three months) and we were written to and were told that our claim had been upheld.
Today our bank statement arrived and our PPI refunds were included on the balance.
WE RECEIVED............................£23,000
YES £23,000
We are now totally debt free (apart from our mortgage) all our existing loan has been paid off - An outstanding credit card bill wiped clean and we have a few thousand pounds left over.
I cannot urge anyone else enough to write a letter, make a few phone calls to claim back what is their money.
We are so grateful for your advise and brilliant website - YOU ROCK MR LEWIS :money: :T

Hi all,
I am after a bit of advice please.
I have had a win with firstplus but I am currently in a debt managment plan due to getting into finicail dificcults a couple of years back which I am dealing with by agreed payments.
As it happens a couple of my creditors, Sky and Egg, are now owned by Barclycard and I was wondereing if they would take all the money to redress these cards or would they pay me the money which I would forward to the DMP company to spread across all my creditors.
If they do use the money to redress the other debts would they forward the 8% interest to me whcih I could forward to the DMP company as I am concerned that my credit file will suddenly show I have paided Barclays a lot of money which gives my other criditors the hump, which had previously happened when ppi was applied back to my argos card whcih triggered a improved credit rating and a 1010 questions from disgruntled creditors.
Thanks for your help.0 -

Posted three claim forms to RBS for three loans in Augsut 2010.
They ackowledged them and in December 2010 received two PPI refunds on the two smaller loans. Then the delay because of the High Court case. They lost the case and in August 2011 received and offer on the third loan. Acceptance letter posted to them on 27th August and received by them on 5th September. Advised by telephone (without asking) that the money would be in my account on 12th October. Then came the next four week delay. I phoned today and was told that I should receive my payment by 21st November BUT of course they cannot guarantee that as they are snowed under. Asked why the delay if the figure has been agreed and accepted. Could not answer. Asked if they were running out of money. Could not answer. The telephone people are working to a script and do not deviate one bit. Asked what would happen if I owed them money for this length of time - how would they deal with me. Would they send in the bailiffs? Would they affect my credit rating? Would they add on further costs? Every answer was the same "I cannot discuss that with you". I will now wait another week and see if it does get paid in. What I am not surprised about is the two smaller refunds were approx £1,000 each. The one I am waiting for is £22,000. All posted in the same envelope on the same day.:mad:0 -

Hi All,
just to let you know that I have had my first PPI reclaim success. I have made claims from Citi, MBNA and Co Op on 22nd October 2011. All have responded and Citi and Co op have stated that they would respond by mid January 2012, MBNA however said they would respond within 28 days. Today I have received a letter from MBNA upholding my claim and advising that I will get a cheque for £4,500 within the next 28 days, happy days.
All I did was download the template letter from this site and post it, no SAR request and no request for the original paperwork so it has only cost me the price of 3 recorded deliveries so far.
So to anyone thinking about it my advice is just do it, if you have signed up to Noddle for your free credit report it will show you the dates of when your loans or cards started if you can't remember. I originally put don't know as I couldn't remember and it was only after I had sent the claims that I realise the information was on my credit report, however that doesn't seem to have affected it.
So 1 down 2 to go, if the other 2 pay out I could be looking for a new car

...update on my successful Halifax credit card claim... Cheque arrived today! It's cost me 2 first class stamps, I originally submitted my claim mid-September.0
