Thanks to the help and information on this site, and to the inspiring tenacity, my partner has just received an offer from Lloyds TSB for his PPI.

He has a credit card which he has had for about 6 years. During the last 6 years he has been paying PPI without realising it - he has been made redundant twice during this period and so would have claimed had we known!
We had a read through these blogs about 4 months ago and he called up the bank and registered it as a complaint. We were starting to doubt that they would be dealing with it and expected to be fobbed off by them. However, yesterday he received a letter with an offer of £788 which was about £750 plus 8% interest.

Yey!! Thanks again to everyone who offered advice.

    Louise. XXX

Great work Louise!:T:j Well done and Congratulations! xx

Hi there, for a while now some colleagues were talking about PPI claims they made with a claims company and they have had a couple of successes.

I didn't think much of it until recently but decided to take the leap and look at what I have had in the past that I am sure I have paid PPI insurance on that i didn't need. This due to me receiving full sick pay as well as redundancy / sickness package if i left my work unexpectedly.

Given the stories on this forum and frequent levels of success here, I decided to submit the claims myself rather than hand over any winnings to a company.

On looking back i was surprised as to how many loans, cards I have had in just 10 years. They are all paid off so hopefully I will get a nice chunk of money back to put towards my first house.

1.Cahoot - Loan of £2000 obtained for 2 years in 2000-2002 approx. Long paid off and PPI questionnaire sent 10/11/2001.

    2. RBS - Loan of £5000 approx obtained for 5 years in 2002. Paid off shortly thereafter. PPI claim questionnaire sent 10/11/2011.

    3. Egg CC - £2000 limit had varied balance from 2000 to 2010. Paid off and PPI questionnaire sent 10/11/2011.

    4. Northern Rock - £2400 loan (approx) - two years 2005-2007 approx. Paid off and PPI questionnaire sent 10/11/2011.

    5. RBS mastercard - £4000 limit - Varied balance between 2007-2009. Paid off 2009 and PPI questionnaire sent 10/11/2011.

    6. RBS credit card - £4000 limit - Varied balance between 2009-2010. Paid off 2010 and PPI questionnaire sent 10/11/2011.

    7. Virgin /MBNA credit card - £5300 limit - Varied balance between 2009 - 2010 - paid off 2010 and PPI questionnaire sent 10/11/2011.

    8. Santander - Loan - £5000 over 5 years 2008-2013. I have made an email complaint to Santander ( 11/11/2011) as I had this over the phone and the agent was very pushy trying to sell PPI.

I refused at every turn and am sure i was given a higher interest rate as a result. As such thought it was worth putting in a complaint and maybe get a refund / rate reduction.

    ********

The optimist in me really hopes and wishes for a nice collective payout of £5-10000 grand but the pessimist expects nothing.

Given that a lot of the above was made without much account detail but are all from same address , how do folk rate my chances? Surely they can check their databases with a name and full address ?

Also, what timeframe do the banks work on currently?

    Fingers crossed

Wishing you luck on all your reclaims, WOW some money to come back to you then, and remember there is interest to add as well!:T

    Good luck.

The norm is 8 weeks, but the FSA are currenly giving 12 weeks due to backlogs, chase them up though for updates near the time, even though you may even hear from them way and well before the given timescale.

    Fingers crossed.;)

  • I recently put a claim in to nationwide for refund of PPI from an old loan, and have been offered just over £2500 :). I have accepted this and am just waiting for the cheque to arrive now.
I have however also paid PPI on a number of other credit cards and loans in the past. The problem is that when I paid them off, I discarded all the paperwork associated with them. As a result I have no copies of credit agreements to put other claims in. I have no idea where to go from here and was wondering if someone could offer some guidance? The banks I need to claim from are Egg (credit card), Cahoot (loan), Mint (credit card) and halifax (credit card).

    thanks

    Hi Kat & welcome

    Well done on your success.

To try tracking down any details of any of your accounts, firstly, if you know for sure you were sold ppi, its just a matter of trying to retrieve the account numbers, you can therefore continue to make a reclaim on the PPI.

So for example, bank statements, or if you bank online and still with the same bank when you paid the monthly loan repayments, this may allow you to go back to about 2002 to check statements.
So the loan account number would normally be shown next to the loan monthly repayment.
You can otherwise give it a try by contacting the business directly or call into any local banks/branches.

However, it you request a Subject Access Request (SAR) they normally only go back to the last 6 years, but some will or may hold details from prior to that, but with this one you enclose £10 cheque or postal order and they have 40 calendar days to comply.
There is a SAR letter template below link, but remember if you had a few loans or credit cards with the same business, then one SAR with the one off payment as stated above is sufficient, but if all different businesses its separate SAR's.
    https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/1475553

Again though, if you have no account numbers to start off with, give them as many details as possble, full name, any previous addresses you may have lived in whilst taken out the accounts, your date of birth, name changes and so on, it may help them to track down your details.
A SAR is optional though, so that is up to you of course.

Another way, depending on how long ago it was you settled these accounts, would be a credit report, some offer free reports for 30 days or you pay £2 for a full credit report, from for example, Equifax, Experian, or google in "Credit Reports" and the sites will come up so you can choose.

Hope this info helps, but remember just as long as you do know you were paying for ppi and your reasons to make a reclaim, you can still make a reclaim without the need for the paperwork.;)

    Hi

We have suggested that maybe getting in touch with your local MP, who may write/contact them on your behalf, they will probably want your vote sometime or you may have already voted for them in the past.
Explain your situation, and if they write to them, ask them to send you copies of all letters etc.
Hopefully by doing this will help, fingers crossed.;)
